Retro Style :)

Almost all DAB radios are retro style because they need hefty batteries to power the digital decoder chipsets! That looks very cheap for a Sony too.

It is very cheap - 50% less than many other online retailers! :-D

Aww I thought your title meant it was a portable(as in pocket sized) DAB.

Great price though, hott.

For the same price is the radio that came first out of the 'Which' best buys too...

Although the price is for pick up - and not 'delivered' as stated.

They are NOT delivering for this price - its pick up in store only.

The free delivery is available for the Sony - I posted the Roberts as the same price but under its picture mentioned free delivery was not available.

I then called when it was showing as no stock left - and they said it could not be delivered and would only be in a few stores where you could pick it up.

Its a shame its out of stock - as the Roberts was Which's best buy, and was the highest rated best buy at 69%.

The Sony scraped it at 52%

Some distortion on speech, poorly labelled buttons

This is the type of thing you might expect from a portable - but not a radio that is solely mains powered.

You made a separate post talking about delivery, and seeing this thread is for the Sony, that was confusing (since you had already mentioned the lack of free delivery for the Roberts on your previous post).

I wouldn't take a Which report as the be all and end all, there are some good reviews for this Sony on Amazon, including a 5 star review 3 days ago. Some people may prefer the design of the Sony. I'm sure the Roberts is a decent radio, but if it's out of stock that is not much use.

I'd still say this Sony is a hot deal if you compare it to the prices at other retailers

From amazon site-

Sony XDRS10DABM Portable Light Wood DAB & FM Radio
Manufacturer's Description
The XDRS10 is Sony's first portable DAB radio. The very bright LED display is easy to see, even in bright sunlight, so ideal when out & about on sunny days.
I dont know how they can call it portable if it is mains only. you would need a long extention lead to go out and about with it:lol:

I take your point, but it can still be moved from room to room and plugged in, plus it has the advantage of stereo sound over other smaller, mono portables.

Some people might prefer Sony.

But the three radios scored as follows in the Which reviews, it does not point to a decent brand when looking at DAB radios.

52% - Sony XDR-S10DABM - Some distortion on speech, poorly labelled buttons

46% - Sony XDR-M1 - Poor sound quality, controls can be fiddly

34% - Sony XDR-S50 - No external aerial connection socket, no FM reception, poor music quality

If you think the Sony is a good deal go for it.

Did you buy one? :whistling: :whistling: :whistling:

I'm not sure the relevance of posting review scores of different radios (although I see you did that on the Roberts thread as well) and you conveniently only quote the minus points, not any positive points the review had to make.

As I stated, looking at the Amazon page, there are many consumers more than happy with the product, so anyone considering purchasing one would have to concede this is a hot deal at £30 less than the regular price.

You seem keen to discredit this deal, but have yet to mention anywhere offering it cheaper!

I don't think Sony makes good radios - **** at half the price is still ****.

Clear enough?

The same company also thought it acceptable to clandestinely install software on anyones PCs running windows, who played one of their CDs on that PC. They also tried to hide the code from being seen once it was running.

I would not have gone near their DAB radios previously - as they were **** - but the code thing stopped me considering any of their products.

Aha so an irrational brand hatred is at the bottom of this - not really a valid reason to pour cold water on this deal. So the sony may not be for you, but for others considering it, this is still the best price.:whistling:

I dislike the brand - but I thought their radios were poor long before their deciding they could illegally install software on anyones machine who bought music from them.

I said I disliked the company - which you then represented as 'hatred' - there's a difference. I dislike you - I don't hate you - can you see the difference?

Anyway - I have one vote per thread here - as does everyone else - and its up to them how they vote - so try posting better deals and more people will vote positively. Its a shame you need to be told this.

I appreciate you have been here well over a year and this is the first deal you posted - but don't yap at my heels as its not getting much interest.

Spend the time looking for something that might do better, although its amazing if you think acting like this will encourage anyone to give the benefit of the doubt to any of your subsequent posts.

Well that is an extremely patronising post with an unnecessary personal attack - I can only assume I have touched a nerve and your previous experience with Sony has somewhat affected your judgment. You say you will not consider Sony products because you dislike the brand - well that is your individual choice, but then you back it up with juvenile arguments like calling their products "****" which is not worthy of a response.

I'm not sure how you feel I have "acted" - I have simply posted what I feel is a good deal, then you have attempted to hijack the thread with another radio, post misleading information about this one, post reviews of inferior radios and other negative comments from your clearly biased perpective all in an attempt to put people off because of your gripe with Sony!

We have established this is not for you, but I still feel this is a good deal and for someone who would consider purchasing a Sony kitchen radio - this may fit the bill given the discount. Without seeing this deal, they may get it elsewhere at £30-40 extra -and this site is about saving money on products, isn't it?

For your information this is actually my second deal, but it is hostile responses like yours that put me me off taking the time and effort to post them.

Well I will not fall down to your level of posting pointless drivel, you have failed to answer any of my points so I will assume you cannot, and this is going way off topic anyway.

Still, perhaps it provided an amusing sideshow for some bored browsers - :whistling:
