what's the point??
It's MONO, why is such junk even made??

DAB radio is supposed to be the future, the step up from FM, even R5 is broadcast in stereo on it, so why make a DAB radio with only one speaker?????

I searched about this before and this was a nice article

http://www.digitalradiotech.co.uk/articles/Ofcom-admits-DAB-sound-quality-is-not-good-enough.php

National DAB mono music stations:

* theJazz
* Core
* Capital Life

Regional DAB mono music stations*:

* Choice
* Kerrang
* Smash Hits

Local DAB mono music stations*:

* Capital Disney
* Century
* Chill
* Classic Gold
* Day One Radio
* Easy Radio
* Gaydar Radio
* Heat
* Kerrang
* NECR
* Passion
* Passion Radio
* Punjabi Radio
* Smash Hits
* Spectrum Radio
* The Beach
* The Hits
* The Storm
* UCA Radio, Ayr
* Virgin Groove
* Waves
* Yarr Radio

BBC DAB mono stations that should be stereo:

* Radio 4 (mono whenever Radio 5 Sports Extra is transmitting after 5 p.m.)
* BBC7 (permanently in mono on DAB but carries lots of stereo content)
* Asian Network (permanently in mono on DAB yet over 30% of its content is music)

So i guess the reason they think they can get away with making this crap is because of the content.

I personally dont think you'd miss stereo sound from a radio in your kitchen that much and I'd rather pay less. Additionally a number of stations in the UK still broadcast in mono due to bandwidth limitations, even some BBC ones. Apparently to match the audio quality of FM, some stations would require nearly twice as much bandwidth as they currently have! Makes you wonder why they didnt wait to improve the compression before rolling it out... oh wait - money.

It's a portable radio ffs! What do you want, another speaker that you can plug in to get the stereo "effect"? Get real!

erm, how about 2 speakers built into one portable stereo???

and believe me, I WOULD miss stereo.

obviously I've misjudged the willingness of people to purchase such a backward item. there are stereo models available for little more, and IMHO, well worth a little extra to get the quality of sound intended by the broadcaster.

I wonder if you'd be as happy buying a blue ray player that only worked in black & white, as to me, that's the same difference.

So you're trying to tell me that you can differentiate the fact that it's stereo with the "speakers" only an inch apart. I'd apply for the role of Superman if I was you.
Personally I can't be bothered with stereo unless it's on a decent system and with decent speakers on which you can really tell the difference between stero & mono. Anyway to each his (her?) own!
