just bought this - can it be unlocked for free from o2 ? any help with this would be great

I had one of these. They are good for the money. Build quality is good. The backs scratch very easily. The Mediatek P10 Octa core is more than fast enough. Just the standard HD resolution that lets it down. Would have been nicer with a FHD panel

As for Sony, I guess it depends on the phone. I think my Z5C is great, not seen much I'd consider swapping it for.

Getting a Chinese phone from Amazon? That's not going to last at all. Should've gotten a Moto G4/G4Plus or a Xiaomi.

Actually the last homtom has done well, a year old now and still fine. We've also had a doogee which survived being dropped better than a Z3 compact! If I could find any of the phones you mentioned for under £100 I'd have jumped at it, but its for an 11 year old girl so no need to go OTT plus by using amazon I got it next day and get very easy returns. That said I'd rather have had the Sony here!

EDIT: Half tempted to unwrap the thing and send it back!

The battery on this Sony is not up to it unfortunately.

Its probably the main reason why these phones are being returned

I sold me iPhone 6 plus ever since getting the xperia z5 premium. best phone ever and battery is great. mind that XA is a lower end phone so can't judge the brand by it I guess.

Anyone knows best place to get it unlocked from? x

Find someone with an o2 contract to request unlock code for you.

battery life is shockingly poor on these.
#15
cracking phone for the price not sure about that lime gold
#16
Was considering this but bought a Xiaomi Mi Max in the end. The XA Ultra looks nice and Android is relatively stock but it has a comedy battery and although I have no problem with Mediatek the retail price point is vey high for a phone with that chipset.

I don't know who's bright idea it was to fit a 2300mah battery to a 6" screen and 8 core processor. Apparently a charge can't even last a day!
#17
I have had one of these already I bought the mi Max to but the Sony is a cracking phone I flashed the latest UK sincere firmware to it pretty easily and it got android nougett cracking price I was getting 2 days battery life on nougett.

I would buy it if it's a full hd screen

But then it wouldn't be £80.

i agree with others. Better of with the Moto G4 (which I have after having iPhone 6 and it's well impressive) or the LG 4 maybe.

I think the XA Ultra is the big one - this only has a 5" screen?

I have someone with an o2 contract sim that could do this for me, would they have to put their SIM into my xperia xa, log into 'my o2', associate this xpria xander with their account and then request unlock code ? they could then put their SIM in their original phone and associate that back with their 'my o2' account ? Does anyone have any experience of doing this ?

Simple, ask them to use the unlock phone link on computer and put in your phone details. No need to link your phone with their account.

It seems that you have to buy a compulsory £10 top up so price in the title should be £89.99

shame, almost bought it

feel the same about my z3c - don't think anyone's really pushing it forward these days. i'm not due to end my contract for another six months, mind, so i'm hoping something interesting comes up before then. if not, i'll probably end up looking at huawei or honor, because i'm not seeing much else of interest out there at all. maybe i should be looking at the chinese/indian phones, instead?

I do not think you have to pay for tpoup at the time of phone puchase. I have just palced an order and order confirmation states that "Your sim will be ready to use once you've added the right amount of credit, and you can switch from different tariffs without being tied down."

Do we get these in boxes headfones etc?

I wouldn't touch Sony phones again unfortunately. Bought 2 brand new Z3's and they've in total been for repair 5 times. Twice within 2 years the screen burns on the left side. The loud speaker goes so quiet over time and that needs replacing every 6 months ideally. They bend like a banana in your pocket, oh and the rear camera stops working. All these are common issues which can be googled. There repair service is OK, but you're left without a phone for a week or so, which is annoying. Samsung's wouldn't touch either, sent 2 for repair in the past and the repair company both times said it was user water damages, when they had no been anywhere near any water at all. Just excuse to get out of repairing and trying to bill you for silly money.

Due to the above, it made me dive into the chinese markets.. Huawei.. oneplus...lenovo.. which i've had all 3 and never had a single problem!.

What are the camera's like on these phones? That's the one thing Sony phones do and that's good camera's.

I went from a z1c to a Z5C because nothing else appealed.

I can't find a G4 I can get this side of Xmas for under £100 though? And I'm not spending more than that on her as she dropped her last phone, she can't have a decent one unless she can go a year without breaking a cheap one!

this phone has a very nice edge to edge display.
