I cant get my head around the sony models! I dont understand Z X XA

What is there flagship? Is there a comparison on what the models are supposed to be?
#3
I'm still on the Z3 at the moment as my contracts only just coming to an end but my understanding is that the Z5 was the last one in the Z range and they've now gone to X range.
I believe that X is the top, XA ultra being second, and XA being third (varying with screenshot, camera quality and memory) Z5 Premium still seems to be the most expensive...

no, this is the equivalent of the compact compared to the standard Z's as far as I can tell, slightly smaller screen etc... still a good offer as well though

4 Models:
X Performance
X
XA
XA Ultra

For the first two, only diffs is that the Performance is waterproof and has the Qualcomm 820 and very slightly bigger battery.

XAs are the best good looking with no side bezels , but no fingerprint scanner on the side of the phone.

Correct that it's not the same model but the compacts of the previous versions had similar specs to the flagship model (Same processor, camera etc) This model is definitely reduced spec.

when I said this model I meant the JL one. The ultra in the Op looks a very good spec.... tempted when my Z3C is finished.

Been this price for months on pre order. You can get it for 95p cheaper in all three colours from Clove with McAfee Security worth £30. (Lime Gold and White are more expensive on Amazon for some reason).

I was considering this phone but the lack of finger print scanner, poor battery and P10/Mali T860 combo pushed me away at £300 when you can get the OnePlus 3 for similar cash. Shame cause the screen and camera set up on this are super swell!

Clove website: https://m.clove.co.uk/sony-xperia-xa-ultra

Not voting either way cause there isn't much in it price wise and Amazon customer service is stellar.

John Lewis is a 5 inch model. This one seems to be a 6 inch one.

Have xa ultra, fab screen, battery life. Fine, processer. Buttery smooth matched to 3gb ram. Performance very good better than z3. And pictures v God. Excellent price, this is six inch screen but can use in small screen on hand mode whilst walking.

Not waterproof? That was the only reason I ever chose Sony. Huawei p9 ftw

has anyone seen very.co.uk its at £299.00 + the usual pay before 12 months

Sony really do like to skimp on the hardware, 16gb storage is bit low end for this money, lower than the z5 too.

That's Sony through and through. It was the same with their laptops, the same with their TV's and so on. Whilst their top end TV's are good, you pay a lot more for them than their direct competitors TVs. Sony are still living in the 80's and 90's where their brand actually meant something. No one has told them their competitors are doing the same things for cheaper and in most cases have more bells and whistles included. Hence the reason most of their depts have been struggling. The wifi components Sony use tend to be one of the worst performing too. Haven't bought a Sony phone in years because the last 2 I had were terrible.

Always had a soft spot for Sony phones, but this with a 6" screen and with big bezels at the top and bottom is too big to be particularly usable.

A question I'd like to ask whoever is in charge at Sony:

Why hasn't Sony released something better than the Galaxy Note7?

Remember back when the first Sony Z was released, and the corresponding Samsung?

Still, this looks like a wonderful phone. I'm not a fan of the huge bezels on the top and bottom, and no waterproofing is a massive let down.

HEAT!

Yeah I know it's a longstanding trend, loved the look of their Arc S a while back but they hobbled it with low ram and storage. The Xperia M4 was tempting as a cheapish waterproof phone and the 2gb ram was nice but they skimped on storage and 8gb killed it, especially when Marshmallow eventually came and they skipped the sd storage part. Z5 did much right but they backed away from it. Guess the fact it doubled as a handwarmer didn't help.

The k800i was nice though :D

Seems like they moved all the staff that ballsed up the launch of the PS3 to their smartphone division cause they seem to make the wrong decisions at every opportunity. Sad really cause I'm a massive fan of everything Sony apart from their phones :(

Sony have previously said that it's difficult to make money in the smartphone market due to all the competition etc, which is probably why they have a limited presence.

This is true but they're still making phones so while they are why aren't they putting effort in to the right things? This is a gorgeous device but a little extra mAh and a fingerprint scanner for a price around £350 would have made it a whole lot more attractive to a lot of people.

Very similar to the Ultra Z mentioned above, I owned that and it was an amazing amazing device in its day but they may as well have not put a camera in it considering what they did install. There is always something fundamental lacking in a Sony phone and it's a design choice more that stiff competition... Surely if the competition are stiff for a reason? Cause they're not making the silly concessions Sony seem to live for X)

Thanks for the replies guys. I see that there are people who would like to see Sony release something awesome. They have the resources to do so!

Another question: Why is Sony releasing INFERIOR products to the likes of Huawei, Xiaomi, ZTE, etc.? Heck even Huawei got things interesting with their "Leica, not just the branding (but yes it is)" dual lens gimmick.

Maybe the answer is so much simpler: that Samsung has all the right people working for them, in spite of their poor after sales support record compared to Apple, they are on top of the curve as far as Android devices go. I knew things would change when I heard about this years ago: http://www.wired.com/2011/08/android-cyanogen-samsung/

This... exactly! They are the architects of their own downfall in the smartphone industry. Such a shame really, how can such a big corporation make such bad design decisions?
