I'm considering this deal, but don't know much about the seller. Any one with experience, good or bad?

Kind of missing the point... this is the Z1 Compact so you're buying it because it's small and compact and still decently powerful; the Nexus 5 may have better specs but it's also massive in comparison and many people don't like that.

They are fine with SIM free and PAYG purchases, just don't rely on them for cashback.

I was asking this question given this price yesterday

Nexus 5 and the compact are physically very close in size comparing them side to side.

About 10mm shorter and 5mm slimmer

Can make the difference between one bulge in your trousers or two. :D

First time I've seen it under £300. Shame there's nothing wrong with my current phone.

in that case it should be cheaper than nexus 5 due to small screen size (Compact as in marketing term) but yet it seems 50 quid on top.

You could say the same about the Nexus 5 and the HTC One M7, it's only a few mm difference but for some that is the difference between the right size and too big. Personally I don't mind the phone size too much but that's just me.

To the person who said this should be cheaper than the Nexus 5 because it has a smaller screen, this is the whole reason Sony called it Compact and not Mini, it's not a cut-down device, it's a full power one and the Nexus series have always been very powerful at a low-price. The Z1 Compact is a very good price for what it is.

Totally agree - most other manufacturers make a 'mini' which has inferior specs whereas Sony have retained some high-end spec.

I personally have the Z1 (not compact) and although I like big screens it is a mahoosive phone when in your jeans pocket. You can't bend/sit/kneel without feeling like you have a brick in your pocket. I wouldn't swap for smaller but this is definitely the largest phone I would buy.

There is very little in it in terms of size, largely due to the massive bezels on the compact.

Yeh Sony have a tendancy for large bezels - my Z1 at 5inch is only 2mm shorter than the 5.5inch G3.

Hot. Awesome price. Gutted - got it for £350 from costco for the Mrs.

She loves it (upgrading from a SGS3). The only thing she doesnt like at the moment is that the camera takes longer to load than it did on the Samsung.

But the battery life is really good so far, and she loves the size.

I want this phone but I read some reviews the other week regarding an on-going screen cracking problem, where the screen apparently cracks without misuse and Sony wont cover it under warranty. I mention this to my girlfriend and she said her daughter had a crack on her screen and she assumed she must have banged it when out. Unless they are going to replace the screen under warranty this phone should be avoided.

I think that affected the Z and some Z1 only, not the Compact. It was also a tiny percentage and a lot of false claims too, some of these cracks obviously had a point of impact but people just jumped on the bandwagon. So don't write it off because of a few negative reviews - all manufacturers suffer them.

there must be reason why z1 compact only got 380 degree heat and on the other hand nexus 5 has over 1150 degree?

Loving my Z1 Compact, paid £375 for it and would again. Just wish it were more compact, but the problem is that the innards of the phone do take up a massive amount of space (the phenomenal battery no doubt accounting for much of it), so the phone can be only as small as the innards regardless of screen size.
Feels incredibly high quality, no idea how people claim the phones have been spontaneously cracking, perhaps when the screen is 5" there is too much flex in it, but at 4.3" the thing feels solid.

The one change I'd make is to move the camera lens closer to the centre, due to the size of the phone it's hard to hold portrait and my fingers want rest over the camera lens.

Maybe the extra 50 quid is to compensate the utter cack battery life you get on the Nexus 5.

And for the poor camera.

Does the compact retain the camera/shutter button? Not sure if I can go back to a phone that I can't press and hold the shutter button to wake to camera from locked, plus handy for locking focus.

The compact has a shutter button, but the camera doesn't produce shots on a par with the nexus 5. Apart from that, it's a tip top phone.

Nexus 5 battery life although not brilliant after updates gets you through a day without issue and I haven't seen a new smartphone that gets you through 2 so that battery isn't really that bad, don't trust the specs directly there is loads of software optimisation on battery life that is important so.

About the camera N5 has a decent shooter, I never had a problem with it and it produces awesome photos. Once again it is not true that higher MP count guarantees better photos, just consider HTC. Once again go and take a look at few examples.

N4 camera was quite bad though...

The LG G2 gets you through 2 days no problem. The N5 is not much of a phone really unless you are a developer, then it makes sense to have one. Its just the cheap option for a lot of people which I do understand.
