Silly phone, Z2 is the same specs.
#2
But if you haven't got a z2 then z3 makes sense

If you hold both, you will fell the difference, z3 is easier to hold.
By the way, I m getting the Z2 next week, a great phone with an amazing price.
Sony. Make. Believe.
#5
I opted for the z2, and love it! - was going for z3 but don't think I will bother!
#6
yeah the specs are not massively different but it is still a much better phone. if you had z2 then no need to get z3 but to call the phone silly? that's not just silly that's dumb.

Just in case anyone is bothered, it looks like clearance/white box:

Threatened to leave o2 and got this on a 24 month contract for 29 quid a month, ultd text and minutes 2gb of data. Not bad atall
#9
Got same deal as you Jim but with 5gb internet
#10
This phone is absolutely brilliant and worth the price over the Z2 imo.

The screen, looks, speakers and battery life are superior.

However, if you're on a tight budget the Z2 is still very much worth it for about 100 less.

while we are on the topic of same specs.. I returned my iPhone 6 for one of these (compact version) because it was almost identical in specs to the 5S and have to say it was the best decision ever. haven't found anything that the 6 did better than this phone.. and I've already converted 3 'apples' to buying one. love it :)

I am a bit disappointed with the Z3 after coming from The HTC ONE( M7) . I hated the picture quality on HTC and lack of SD card plus it needed charging twice a day so I opted for the Z3 as it seemed to be the only thing on the market that would be a worthy upgrade but in reality its more of a side step. The 20mp camera can take good pics but it has such poor software compared to the HTC .You can only get the 20 mp if you use manual settings. I didn't realize until after taking pics on auto and after viewing them saw how shockingly pixelated and grainy they were, the red eye function barely works, the flash seems to go on forever.Yes it takes great photos in the dark if on manual settings but that's about it.
The sound isn't great either especially compared to the HTC . I find it very tinny & not very loud.

I just did a software update but it could only be done via a computer using sony's software companion for some reason, never had to do that with any other phone before.

The bonuses are the battery life, I only charge once a day on high use.
It feels good to hold considering its size.
Its waterproof.

I wish I had saved my £420 and waited another 6 months for something better.

based on detailed market analysis.. doubt it.

This will hold its value until spring when the new z4 comes out so about £400 or £30/month is going to be the price for the next few months and probably most of Q1.

With Sony updating their flagships every 6 or so months, there's not much confidence in their pricing/used value. This isn't a dig at them, I think the z3 & z3 compact are 2 of the nicest phones around currently.

I have the Z3 and love it. Battery life, screen and speed best features. Oh and rear facing camera too. Not so much the front.
#21
Sony has said no making handsets every six months in their latest press release. So hot

I have one and the screen cracked for no reason. Google it tons of people with the same issue and EE refused to let me swap the handset

I know there was a big problem in the past but hadnt heard about the z3 until now. I dropped mine the other day in its case-mate and all was ok. I cant believe that sony would be so stupid to have not rectified this major problem by now.
#25
I need to renew my contract but have very little to compare with on Z3 deals :(
#26
phones haven't really improved since the lg g2.

My the back glass on my Z3 Compact got a hairline crack in it, no sign of impact,, sent it off to Sony to try and get a warranty claim, fingers crossed else need to get it sorted on insurance. Other than that these are great handsets, better than iPhone (and that's from being on iPhones for the last 5 years!)

I think you're being a bit harsh on the camera. Yes, the not being able to set the MP setting in Auto is really darn stupid and I agree with you there. But get into Manual (which is still pretty Auto, it's not like proper manual on SLR), and photo quality is very good for a camera phone, in fact one of the best I've seen so far. Not as good as that crazy Nokia with the 40 odd Megapixels, but good enough.

Also think you're harsh on the sound. The HTC sound was a selling point and my Girlfriends HTC does have better sound, there is better base and range, but not by much. The Z3 has a very decent set of stereo speakers which I would happily watch a movie on. Full volume makes a back vibrate a little worryingly, but other than that it is very good.

Battery life is fantastic for a smart phone, Leaving the house at 7am with full charge will keep me going until I go to bed the following night. Usually with about 20% battery left around 10pm. The screen is excellent too, and if you like Stock Android sony leave most of it alone, but you still get the Sony apps installed like all non stock phones.

I'm not saying it is for everyone, but it is one of the best smartphones out there and I am very happy with mine.

My photos are excellent on auto, certainly no pixelisation even when cast to my 40" TV?!? Mine also updated just fine over Wi-Fi, maybe some user error going on?!?!

No, the Z3 has a much improved screen and battery life.

I actually won my Z3 via a sony Facebook comp. first impressions are great. The camera on auto is excellent. toon some great pictures...much better than my s5. The ps4 remote play is pretty good to. Not played it alot but seems to work great. I did have the update available but same as someone else will only allow me to update via a computer. Overall a great phone. not used the z2 but had the original z1 and it'd a vast improvement. The rounded edges make holding the phone a lot more comfortable.

20mp pics would be too large for normal everyday use and fill up your storage quickly which is why its not a default option on most high mp camera phones, 5 to 8mp pics from a good camera phone are of sufficiently good quality for facebook, whatsapp etc. Anyone into serious photography would use a DSLR camera, the most basic of which could beat the best camera phones out there.
