I can't keep track of all these Sony letters :s

Any idea if this is compatible with skygo, obviously the xperia z is, but the ZL was not released for the EU market and as such not listed as compatible on the sky website. However i am guessing sky go may just recognise the device as an Xperia Z? Anyone got any knowledge/experience on this?

I'm pretty sure that's the ZL - and I know because I have one. I absolutely love it. I've got Cyanogenmod on it and it's my favourite phone ever, it just wasn't released in the UK for reasons I really don't understand.

It's the only phone in the Z series which doesn't have that nasty flat back, so it's really nice to hold and doesn't feel anywhere near as big as the Z. The only thing is misses is the waterproofing.

Only recently heard about the ZL/M range e.t.c

Appears to be a slower (but still quad core version) of the Z1 with lower MP camera.

http://www.phonearena.com/phones/compare/Sony-Xperia-Z1,Sony-Xperia-ZL/phones/8000,7538

I really liked my Z1 until it bent and now there are reportedly problem across the entire Z range for bending, cracking screens, poor camera quality e.t.c Such a shame as on the face of it a great phone, but the user experience and design issues are mind boggling for a company such as Sony.

The fact that the Z2 exhibits the same design issues as the Z/Z1 is just silly and shows Sony's attitude to the consumer.

This ZL appears to have a similar frame to the Z1 which has a weakspot around the SD card (hence bending), thus I suspect this flex is also partly the cause of the "self cracking screens".

The ZL is a flagship phone (or at least a younger brother of the flagships) whereas the M is a budget phone. They're in different leagues so not in the same range.

Again, as a ZL owner, I've never seen or heard of these problems and I've had my phone for about a year. If you want to look at reports of problems for any phone, you will find them. I've never seen anything to suggest that the Sony phone range has any more problems than any other manufacturer.

The reason for the ZL (and Z) being slower than the Z1 is because the Z1 is.. a newer model, which is exactly what you'd expect. My ZL is super fast and I've no need to upgrade now or in the immediate future :)

Not disputing the performance figures, just letting people know where it stands.

Sony certainly have more issues with the Z/Z1/Z2 than other manufacturers, but don't know the specifics for the ZL. One thing that stays consistent is that Sony Customer Service for the Xperia range is simply horrific.

It appears to be pretty difficult because all you've done is listed threads where the phone has a problem. I asked you to show me where Sony has any more problems than other manufacturers. Unless you're expecting me to go through the problem threads for every mobile phone manufacturer on their official and unofficial forums, what you're claiming is purely anecdotal.

I don't really understand the issues with viewing angles, personally, since I always look at my phone face on. If there's something specific you'd like me to check I can, but I can still see the image pretty much perfectly from any angle, I think!

On my way to try it now dude.

Edit: "This app is incompatible with your device."

Note that I'm running on a custom ROM, so I don't know if that makes any difference or if you can sideload instead. But it doesn't seem to want to do it from Google Play, at least.

Do you have a source to prove that Sony have more issues with their phones than other companies?

And Sony Customer Service UK repaired my phone when I dropped it, even though it wasn't a UK model and they didn't have to.

Not trying to get into an argument here but it's not difficult, look at Sony's forum vs any other manufacturer.

I can't remember the last time I saw so many problems with one model and consistently, then to find it repeated in the Z2 is simply a JOKE!.

E.g. for the Z1 alone

Overheating - to the point cameras fail to work
Poor camera output for the kind of sensor it is packing - purely poor software
Bluetooth wasn't working for a long period - probably still the case

and the rest

It appears to be pretty difficult because all you've done is listed threads where the phone has a problem. I asked you to show me where Sony has any more problems than other manufacturers. Unless you're expecting me to go through the problem threads for every mobile phone manufacturer on their official and unofficial forums, what you're claiming is purely anecdotal.

It depends how you look at it, you can either see that many users have at least 4-5 major issues (and hundreds of them with the issues on that forum alone) with their phone through normal use/poor design, or you can close your eyes and wait for somebody to do all the hard work for you and summarise. You can probably guess the latter won't happen.

Common sense dictates that the issues facing the Z1/Z2 are unacceptable, to the level and desperation of users that they involved watchdog, with clearly sufficient numbers that Watchdog aired at least one of the problems.

I am quite confident that you won't find this number of severe issues with other flagship phones (but of course there are problems), whether you choose to look is up to you, or you can wait for the summary from an unknown person to prove it to yourself.

If you think a phone that bends, smashes its own screen on a regular basis, cannot connect by bluetooth, overheats, takes worse photos than those with a 10mp camera e.t.c is acceptable, then you are the perfect customer for Sony. Good luck!
