The oppo Find 7 is also a good alternative for anyone in the market for a new mobile around this spec level (Oppo Find 7 on HUKD) and its currently at £383.78 [EUR 479].

Not impressed with my Z1. I'm sure all the bloatware Sony put on it, is making mine crash several times a week. So tempted to go back to pure android and get a N5

Yep, believe the hype.Got my G3 on Friday and it's incredible.

I had this phone and sold it after two week and now use my old g2 which is better in many ways.including battery and size ratio for same size screen and also the camera on g2 on auto setting is better than z2 camera on auto.only advantage of getting the z2 in first place was a free Sony TV.

".. only £419??" Why do people pay over four times as much for a phone like this compared to a Moto G that runs the same apps?

rofl seriously, i agree moto g is good bang for buck . Just as a Ford fiesta gets you from A to B, But it doesn't make it an Audi or BMW.

For basic use Moto G does everything a flagship can do, but there are small things that it doesn't have, and struggle on(big games etc), screen,storage, some sensors, so please calm your moto g hype. The moto may be fine for the masses, but it isn't for everyone.

I have the Z Ultra which is mostly the same hardware/software and there's not much 'bloatware' on it, Sony have a few applications and utilities but they're not intrusive as the setup is not far from vanilla Android. Aside from the initial software release I've had no issues with stability (nor on the much more heavily modified Note), it sounds like there's something wrong with your device as you don't need to go vanilla Android to have a stable device.

Don't know what you're doing to your Z1, but mine flies like an angel. It's a fantastic and reliable phone.

Great phone but TEST the waterproofing! I'm on my 2nd one in 24 hours. . scared to test this one. They are meant to be waterproof but do NOT rely on that :(

Did you get yours replaced by your mobile operator?

As mine is with three and just died whilst on holiday after a couple of underwater pics in the pool. Condensation around the both camera lens and now the screen won't turn on.

Not sure wether to get three to replace it or get it replaced under my bank mobile insurance

think making phones waterproof is a daft idea it encourages people to get them wet.I only had my z2 for two week till I sold it but in tat two week the man port came loose quite a few times with phone in my pocket.glad I'm rid of it now

Looks like a good deal on the Z2. I think the phone is a touch too big for my liking, but still an awesome phone.

Interested in the comments here regarding the Moto G. I'm a bit of a phone geek, have got a Nexus 5. My my girlfriend and brother both have Moto G's, and simply they are incredible value for money. Honestly, they are so smooth to use and cope with most tasks admirably, they are simply brilliant little devices that would easily be good enough for 90% of people to use happily day to day. More folks should buy a phone like that and go on a cheap sim only tariff, instead of getting an expensive phone on contract that they won't ever use to its full capability.

I actually thought we'd last a bit longer in a high-end smartphone deal without someone mentioning the Moto G.

The Moto G is a mid-range phone. It's like comparing an Audi R8 to a VW Polo, both get you to Tesco and back but one has a considerable number of strengths over the other.

I don't know how else to explain it to you MotoGimps.

Same reason why some people buy a Porsche over a Nissan Micra. If they have the money, it's no big deal for them. The Moto G is mid-range phone which doesn't exude the same quality as the higher-end phones. Apart from that, more features are available, better camera quality, etc. You get the point?

Get it replaced under Sony Warranty. Do NOT replace it with your bank mobile insurance, as you'll have to pay an excess. This is a fault in the phone and therefore should be replaced by the manufacturer under the standard warranty.

I'm curious about this phone and it may well be the next phone I buy.

However the comments about the problematic waterproofing feature and the flimsy port covers on the side are putting me off.

I may just buy the z1 from smartfonestore instead of the z2, just incase I'm not happy with the phone.

I don't get the point I'm afraid. You make a blanket comment "more features are available" without actually listing any. "Exuding high quality" is perhaps an acceptance people are buying them because they are a high price, rather than that they have "must have" features that people really need, and will use frequently. Sony accept that this "better camera quality" only brings it up to the level of a digital camera - and it will still have the classic cameraphone limitations.

You trolling bro? Here's some food for thought (all stats taken from GSMArena):

* 'Main' flavour of Moto G doesn't appear to support 4G, and the 'Ferrari' edition supports less bands than the Z2
* Better screen on the Z2 (424ppi vs 326ppi, not a trivial difference)
* Dual front-facing speakers on the Z2
* WaterPROOF and dustproof certification
* Z2 supports microsd up to 128GB vs 32GB on the Moto G (useful for that 4k recording)
* Higher internal memory options availabe on the Z2 (useful for installing games and other large apps)
* More RAM in the Z2 (3GB vs 1GB on the Moto G, big plus for future-proofing)
*5Ghz wifi support, and 802.11ac support on the Z2, neither found on the Moto G (2.4Ghz only.. really?)
*MHL Support on the Z2
* USB OTG support on the Z2 (possibly to return on the Moto G via software update)
* 5MP (Moto G) vs 20.7MP (Sony Z2) rear camera
* 720@ 30fps video recording on the Moto G vs 4k recording on the Z2 (even if you moan about the overheating issues it's still 1080 at 60fps vs 720 at 30fps)
* 1.3MP front camera (Moto G) vs 2.2MP front camera, which can also record 1080 at 30fps (Z2)
* Dual core 1.7Ghz CPU (Moto G) vs Quad Core 2.3Ghz (Z2)
* Newer GPU in the Z2
* Z2 has a barometer sensor (costs money to include this)
* MUCH bigger battery in the Z2 (3200mAh vs 2070mAh)
* Sony seem to be pretty well-regarded in the custom community as of late (although I hear Motorola aren't bad either)

Now all of these points cost money to implement. Whether they are useful to you or not will depend on your individual situation, but the above points should help you understand the difference in price. Only you know if the price difference is worth it based on your needs!

As an aside: Got this phone a week ago from Vodafone (retention deal). Have had the camera overheat and the touchscreen go nuts, and the speakers are quiet because they have been sealed. Software seems fine, I haven't even bothered rooting yet. Battery and display is great. Camera quality is awesome. A large improvement over my Galaxy S3. Unfortunately for me my bootloader is not-unlockable (thanks Vodafone!) but you guys shouldn't have this problem.
