DVD Description
Watch all episodes of writer-producer-director David Chase's extraordinary US television series. The Sopranos is nominally an urban gangster drama, but its true impact strikes closer to home, chronicling a dysfunctional, suburban family in bold relief. And for protagonist Tony Soprano (James Gandolfini), there's the added complexity posed by heading twin families, his collegial mob clan and his own, nouveau riche brood.

The series' first season was built around what Tony learns when, whipsawed between those two worlds, he finds himself plunged into depression and seeks psychotherapy--a gesture at odds with his mid-level machismo, yet instantly recognizable as a modern emotional test. With analysis built into the very spine of the show's elaborate episodic structure, creator Chase and his formidable team of directors, writers and actors weave an unpredictable series of parallel and intersecting plot arcs that twist from tragedy to farce to social realism throughout six spellbinding series. While created for a smaller screen, they enjoy a far larger canvas than a single movie would afford, and the results, like the very best episodic television, attain a richness and scope far closer to a novel than movies normally get. Alternately seductive, exasperated, fearful, and murderous, James Gandolfini's Tony is utterly convincing, even when executing brutal shifts between domestic comedy and dramatic violence.

Don't think it is planned. You can buy Season 1 in the UK and both parts of Season 6 in the US. Season 6 looks amazing in HD.

Great price!!

Who cares about Blu-ray; this isn't Avatar where the only things of interest are the shiny flashy things you see on screen. You don't need HD to appreciate the immense quality this show has in every other aspect. At this price, it's an absolute snip, although it has been cheaper before - I seem to recall picking my copy up from HMV for about £30.

Good price and my favourite show. Same price at Tesco for those who want the 8% Quidco/TCB.

You sir have no taste whatsoever!!! No-one can say the wire is rubbish, opinion doesnt count for anything - it is one of the best experiences you can have watching a screen (yes even better than pornographic material in my eyes!)

Utterly worth it, the best and definitive TV series

It's a slow burner; so i'd say if you get to half way through season 2 and you still don't like it then its not for you

The Butler Does It

Joking... truly the One "Great" Boxset / Series that lived up to its hype (I found the Wire, West Wing, 24, Lost etc to be rather a letdown, never got into them...).

Sopranos is funny, clever, stylish, layered, sexy, violent, and has great music.

great series may just rotate between this and the wire on a 6monthly basis until im old and grey, Its that good!

Great price for one of the greatest shows ever made.

I got the Deluxe set a couple of years back for £60 but am tempted to get this set too, as I prefer the Amaray cases to the cardboard sleeves which are bit fiddly and can scratch the DVDs. Plus it makes it much easier to lend to mates!

Comes to 33.33 pound (-VAT) for me with free shipping as I'm in Australia, thanks for posting!
#37
If anyones not seen this, just bloody buy it. you wont regret it!

Have just finished watching this all the way through over a period of 8 months. It is by far the best show my wife, my goomar and I have ever watched!

Trouble is we are now getting withdrawals so can anyone recommend another series we might enjoy? Haven't seen The Wire, West Wing or Madmen etc so they are possibilities..
