Went to South Lakes Safari Zoo at the weekend (Dalton in Furness, near Ulverston in Cumbria) and was surprised to find entry is currently reduced to pay what you want with a minimum of just £1 per person. It is a good day out with additional donations of just £1 to be able to feed the giraffes and penguins and friendly wallabies and emus to feed too.

Offer ends on 13th Feb when priced go back up to £15 per adult and £9 per child so great savings to be made if you go now.

hot for me I live around the corner and it is a good day for the family I always visit when these deals are on its usually quieter.

They've done this for the past few years over winter. A great deal for families looking for a cheap day out and a good place to visit too. Got to add, the penguins nearly took my finger off when feeding them!

One of the best animal parks in the country

Every one should put more than a pound as it is a good place to visit.

Thanks for posting, now planning a day out at the weekend

Normally £15 per adult in the summer months. I'd encourage you to give more than the £1 minimum donation because it is definitely worth it. First time for me last week and I was pleasantly surprised at how much there is to see, even in the height of winter.

This place is always worth a visit. Last time I tried to go on the Sunday before Christmas the cars were queuing down the road to get into the car park, so had to leave it until the Monday :)

It be well worth paying £10 for a family to go in.

Went just before Christmas... Completely disorganised, car park full, two hour que to get in, two tills open for lots of people.. no food in restrauant.. Never again!

I've been before and really enjoyed thanks for this

I have been around 3 times and can say this is a great place to go - had found it by chance on the way to the lakes.

It's not a big zoo but I do feel you get more interaction with the animals

They reduce their prices over winter as the footfall is not as inviting as in summer so they can still pull in visitors.

As mentioned above its not a big zoo, think we had seen majority in 2 hours. but the animal interaction at the zoo is nice and can make it a fun memorable day out
#14
I have been 2 or 3 times and you seem to be able to get closer to the animals. Its a great little zoo for the family.

Well worth full price, last time I was there they were also offering to upgrade your ticket to a year entry for an extra £15

Isnt this the one where the tiger keeper was mauled to death and the first reaction of the owner was to put all blame firmly on the keeper, without any investigation or anything taking place. Ive been myself and the park is good and cant knock it at that price.
#17
That's the place! Still worth a £ and the Tiger Talk is worth watching
#18
The lemur are amazing. Got some amazing pics of them sitting with my boys
#19
I want to go now too!

Best zoo I've been to and free entry for Armed Forces is an added bonus

Totally irrelevant comment to place on here, however the keeper was fully to blame as she intentionally went into the enclosure,

It's a great place and the conservation work they do is fantastic
#23
Wish we lived near this zoo, the normal entry price is so reasonable
#24
Great zoo this & the kangeroo's balls are massive #fact
#25

The enquiry concluded that the keeper did not adhere to set safety procedures. The reason for that we'll have never know. Agree, not the place!

I don't like these initiatives...
I'd rather entry be reduced to a low fixed price otherwise these places just end up closing

I've been several times with my children and its a great day out. So much to see. Restaurant is decent and there's a little ice skating rink and train for kids too.
The running costs must be high so don't grudge a decent donation.

Lovely zoo my kids loved it

Shame the price goes up just before half term.

Min donation is £5 till date in February

Min donation is £5 till date in February

When did that start?
#34
They have now increased it to £5 minimum donation per person. The reduced price of £1 was for people who can not afford the full price but lots of people have just out £1 and took the mick and they can't run on that as it costs £8220 to run per day. But £5 is still a lot cheaper than £15.50 for an adult and £9 for a child.
