I can't get it to work
Use the South West Trains website:
https://buytickets.southwesttrains.co.uk/

It has to be a journey entirely on South West Trains, and has to be bought at the latest by the midnight before the day of travel.
This is actually a pretty good offer, despite the negative comments above.

For example normally to London a Super Off-Peak Day Return from Bournemouth is £50.90, Southampton is £37.90, from Winchester is £32.60 etc etc.

Plus these promotional tickets have the same validity as Off-Peak Day Returns, rather than the more restrictive *Super* Off-Peak Day Return fares that I quoted above.
It **** me off they dont offer next day returns, weekender's or month long returns (leave on a friday say and you can come back any time within a month) like Southern.
Yea i cant travel the 300 odd miles for that price. Its more like 13 times the price. Rubbish scam promo! lol

pahhhhh used to be £10 & £12

Still a decent price though.

If you have an standard class ticket and no standard class seats are available then you can sit in 1st anyway because the train becomes declassified.... Therefore I don't see this as a deal.
Not true on Southern at least. Only if overcrowded and explicitly declassified by the conductor.

It's within the passenger charter. Try it.... Walk from one end or the train to the other. If it's full and only first is available sit there. If the conductor comes and put the onus on him/her to find you a seat in standard... It's their job after all.
A must buy for all the pregnant men and women
I was working on South Western trains, when a lady who claimed she was pregnant, requested her free 1st class upgrade. I asked for her to prove that she was indeed with child, to which she invited me to "feel the baby kick". In hindsight, I now realise she meant on the outside. I no longer work for South Western trains, but am considering a career in Gynaecology.

Please do that on a South Eastern Railway train and enjoy your fine...trains aren't declassified just because they are busy. On SE Railway they are declassified where they are short formed (i.e. are booked to be formed of 8 coaches and turn up with 4) or there was a cancellation and the next train is overly busy (i.e. carrying two lots of passengers rather than one).

If you were in standard class and didnt at least offer to give up your seat to a pregnant woman, you deserve a slap. heat for the rail company at least offering this but there are still people who are in much more need of a seat i.e. the elderly and disabled.
So how do you know the person in the seat that you want to give a slap, doesn't have a disability or need for the seat? Not all disabilities are visible!!
in fact over 80% of disabilities are not visible

Cheers
Just bought mine & deal worked xx
Yes just seen that as I tried to book for 20th Feb, but have moved it forward a week :)
This is just a heads up but Can I just point out that regarding the mega train tickets they are point to point meaning you CAN NOT break your journey or start or end it at a more convenient station to you, in other words you cannot purchase it starting at Waterloo but because you live at clapham you'll jump on and off the train there instead. It doesn't work like that and people often get offended when they are given a penalty fare which is double the single fare for that journey so could easily be in the £100's depending on time of day. It is clearly stated in a pop up window that you must start and end your journey stated on the ticket and you click OK to agree to this.
Don't overlook that SOME SWT routes are included on the Megatrain site with cheap Advance type fares available, (sometimes from as little as £1 for totally antisocial hours trains).
https://uk.megabus.com/megatrain.aspx

Nowadays they seem to try to keep their overall route diagram a secret, though MoneySavingExpert republished an OLD diagram [ie routes may not still be current!] to give you SOME idea

It was half this price last year!
I.e. £10 per adult and £5 per child.
It was very busy! But rather than cope with the same level of demand this year by increasing the numbers of trains and train carriages they appear to be reducing the demand instead by doubling the price!
As for the strike comment though. I've commuted to London daily from Basingstoke for the last 4 years (using South West Trains). In that time period the company has never been on strike - so we have to give them credit for that.

Scabs !

Hah. Must be waiting for the next strike.

correction: I paid £15 per ticket last year not £10.

Also, that deal ran from 26th July - 22nd August.
They're running the same deal this year, on the same dates, for the same price
http://www.southwesttrains.co.uk/swsummerlaunched.aspx
It's also valid 7 days a week this year not just weekends as it was last year.

Example Nxt Friday Reading to Southampton leave Reading after 9am = £38 return for 2 adults. Then you need to get ferry to Isle of Wight. Red funnel ferries to IOW west cowes ( prices vary) from Southampton ( abit of a walk from train station). You can also get train to Lymington or Portsmouth and get Wightlink ferry but SW trains to these destinantions are from about £54 return for 2 adults.
I'm new to this train thing. Will this be valid for travel to the Isle of Wight? Say from Reading? I can only see very expensive offers online.

cheers
If you don't mind slower trains with lots of stops they work out much cheaper than this. Kids travel for a flat fee of £2 on Southern. Advance tickets, if you can plan about 12weeks in advance are much cheaper. Friend and family railcards reduce the cost significantly. I recently booked fareham to victoria return myself and 2 kids, on South West Trains and it was £14.60 for us all
Thanks for sharing this it's very useful.
Massive list of excluded stations. Can barely call that a 'South West' offer.

Unfortunately the morning trains are going to be rammed as that's when people want to travel to london. Can you book seats on Southwest?
We went Bournemouth to Waterloo last Saturday and the train was so packed with children and adults sitting in the aisles !!!! Train was full as we pulled out of Bournemouth so there were hundreds of disappointed people at every stop there after all looking forward to their day in London ! Great price but get on before Bournemouth to get a seat at least !!!!
With regards to their 'prompt and helpful response' - its been 4 days so far and still no reply. Bloody awful company.
If you can be bothered to read my rant, below is the letter I sent to SW Trains after using this offer last weekend... I wouldn't recommend it.

Good afternoon,

I am writing to complain about the shambolic situation of the trains on the 22nd February from Honiton to London Waterloo.

On both legs of the journey (Travelling out at 0755 and returning on the 1920) there was severe overcrowding, though the return journey was more severe and heavily delayed as a result.

We boarded the train in Honiton and already the train was full and many people standing in the aisles, obviously not happy about a 3 hour standing time. There was no organisation either, the guard was not seen once. People were refusing to move up and let more people and there were quite a few confrontations. We were told once over the speakers that they should have had 6 carriages but only had 3. Awful planning. No more communication.

The return journey though was even worse. We arrived at the station 20 minutes early, certain that SW Trains would have sorted the overcrowding situation out during the day, but not wanting to risk it as it was the last train back. We were told we needed the front 3 carriages and moved along the train. We were greated at the train door by a barrage of passengers who intially refused to let us on saying there was no more room. Just the sort of thing you want to end your day out, a confrontation with (understandably frustrated) fellow passengers. We had seen space in the middle of the train so forced our way on and so began 4 hours of standing. Indeed we were lucky as the passengers kept coming and eventually there was just no more space. And so began confrontations and shouting at the doors.

All this before we'd even left Waterloo. We next stopped at Clapham Junction and so began another process. Passengers trying desperately to get on so as not to miss the last train. The train driver even announced that the train would be terminated if people didn't stop trying to get on. What awful management of the situation - an attempt to turn the passengers against each other and of course pushing and shoving began at the doors. Unbelievable. Total, unorganised chaos.

And so it continued at every station until Basingstoke when the train was delayed yet further as someone had fainted and needed medical attention, and so the next thing SW Trains has to answer for was someone's health. The overcrowding had several people feeling unwell and it began to become stiflingly hot on board.

I'd like to say this was the end of it, but at Salisbury an announcement told passengers for Tisbury to get off the train as Taxis had been arranged. We followed announcements on Twitter and saw that in fact SW Trains had lied, lied, lied, lied (!!!) to the passengers, there were no taxis arranged at all. This is what riles me most, though I didn't experience it myself, it infuriates me that played with people's lives and simply lied to them. I really can't tell you how angry I am at SW Trains. What sort of a company LIES to people to get them off a train. Seriously! What sort of calibre of employee do you have that someone took the decision to make people with children get off a train onto a cold station platform with the promised of a taxi home, when there was no such plan at all. Seriously, I want an answer for this, because it is totally unacceptable. i wouldn't do that to my worst enemy, let alone a paying customer. Please answer this, don't just give me the usual "it was a mistake". Seriously, look into this and find out why this happened. And what you will do to make sure it doesn't happen again because this is shocking behaviour. There is no excuse. Rounding people off a train as victims of a lie and SW Trains unbelievably poor planning.

And so the journey continued. Eventually we had an announcement to apologise for the severe overcrowding which was due to 'unforeseen demand due to an offer and sporting events' - now that is not unforseen demand, that is bad planning.

Eventually we arrived into Honiton an hour late and exhausted from standing up for 4 hours. The communication throughout was awful, and the whole experience has left me very reluctant to use SW Trains again. I would like to demand a full refund for our two return tickets, an apology and any further goodwill gesture to account for the whole experience.

I look forward to a prompt and helpful response.

Yours as an angry passenger,
I saw this yesterday when looking to go to Waterloo from Fleet. Thought it was too good to be true!

I looked at that option but it still cost £52.50 return and then £30 for the cheap tickets plus tube, plus lunch, (plus a large glass of red wine for me when I realise that I'm lost, in London, with 2 kids and the sense of direction of a Mad March Hare).

Unless I mis-read your reply and you're offering to buy...?! :D

Yes but I've tried putting in Bath Spa to Paddington on Saturday 22nd Feb and getting £52.75 out and £44.50 return! oO

The guy gave you the answer.

Not valid to/from stations Exeter St Davids to Feniton or Warminster to Bristol Temple Meads inclusive.

Bath Spa is between Warminster and Bristol Temple Meads.

Why are people finding this deal so hard to understand?

1. Enjoy a £10 Day Return any Saturday or any Sunday from 18 January to 23 February - and kids go for £5! Go away with the family, or with as many friends as you like for £10 each and £5 for the kids, with a choice of 195 destinations across the South West Trains network*

2. Not valid to/from stations Exeter St Davids to Feniton or Warminster to Bristol Temple Meads inclusive.

THIS DEAL DOES NOT WORK IF YOU TRAVEL TO/FROM:

Bristol Temple Meads, Bath Spa, Bradford-on-Avon, Trowbridge, Westbury, Whimple, Pinhoe, Exeter Central, Exeter St. Davids.

OFFER IS ONLY VALID ON SOUTH WEST TRAINS.

If you want to travel to London from stations that are excuded, just buy a return ticket to take advantage of the offer.

Example: Exeter St.Davids to Honiton = £6.90 return / Honiton- London Waterloo = £10.00

Not working online?.....Purchase your Winter Sale ticket online, from our Customer Services Centre or at your local station

I don't think you are being serious.

The stations to travel to and from are as pokerguru says, indicated by the red dots on their network map.

The problem most folks would encounter is when booking a train with changes as the offer is for travel between 2 stations and only works at £10 if the journey is direct.

I tried Crewkerne to Paddington (£51 changing at Waterloo and using tube to Paddington) but Crewkerne to Waterloo £10 so £41 for a return tube journey Waterloo/Paddington...........bargainoO

That's because it will route you onto FGW.

Er... I didn't know Bath Spa was between Warminster and Temple Meads! :( Geography never was my strong point (or map reading!). Well, thanks for clarifying even if you did make me feel like an idiot.

Never mind, I've given up on the whole thing now as I just can't figure out a way of getting myself and 2 kids to the Natural History Museum cheaply!

Buy a return for you and the kids from Bath Spa - Salisbury, when you then can buy the cheap tickets.

They couldn't make it more difficult to get this offer.....nice easy to read route map on their website....not

They can't use replacement buses during the week, as they hire the buses/coaches and drivers at weekends when they're not being used. They don't have a spare fleet of buses and drivers sitting around unfortunately.
Have you seen the crappy old coaches that are used as replacements on weekends? You can't tell me that these would be in service during the week. They should expect train drivers to drive them when railways are blocked too? Why not?

If you expect any public transport to be perfect and you don't allow any delay factor (I always allow at least half an hour), then you're going to end up disappointed
No, but I expected to be reimbursed for the day when I couldn't travel. I had paid them for that day as I have an annual season ticket, so if they're not able to provide a service to me then I want that money back.
