Sow the seed of self-sufficiency by filling 5 sacks with quality crops-to-be. Oxfam will get them to local farmers with the need for seed. They can be stored in a seed bank for harder times or sown to grow crops to eat or sell.

Not exactly a deal. More like a humanitarian gesture and if you have seen the Left 4 Dead 2 thread you will realise that good will to all men is in short supply on HUKD,.

But rep to you for making the effort and I have added heat also to bring it back to zero. How can you vote a charity cold, you cold-hearted people!?

i rest my case! One thing to think it but to actually take time to voice your selfish and thoughtless attitude takes the biscuit (some of these seeds could grow biscuits)

And before you ask, no, I'm not buying any. :whistling:

Just reckon voting this cold is awful.

A close friend used to work for oxfam (in quite a well respected position) was sickened by the degree of waste...

On a personal level i'm sick of overseas charity, the British Isles (encapsulating all the nations within) needs to be in a position to look after it's own, which it cannot before we go pouring even more money that gets wasted (not all admittedly)
Saw a programme whereby a charity pulled out as the locals who they tried to set up with business for all the tribal village, manipulated the charity into paying more money, not doing it then moaning! ..cannot remember what the business was, but part of the incentive & project was for a good long term storage unit for crops in order to feed themselves & sell excess in times of high market value.

..sometimes you can help all you want, but if theyt don't wish to help themselves..
not PC however I don't like rose tinted specs.
(the prog was as I recall a bbc programme this year) ..just made me angry at the flaunted opportunity to make a villlage profitable & viable.
I think it also had a vehicle that was bought for use, which wasn't the vehicle paid for...
charity car crash tv!
Want to help, bale this country out first, as trhe charity the govt gives away also piles on the national debt (burdening us all) & adds to the overall pincer grip of world trade & ability to loan / offer aid, when our markets crash theirs are brought to a standstill!

How big are the bags, are they bought & shipped from over here or local market? ..couldn't find owt about that, or else an indiginous seed trader might find his market obliterated.
don't mean to be crass, just that problems don't go away when you fling some money at them.

Seems a cheap way to help others, a bargain for 5 sacks of feed. Heat added, it's always the time for giving in my home, not just at Christmas.

Seems a shame that it's been voted cold, as others have pointed out. Charity begins where it's needed

not being a pedant, however this is a bag not a sack, of no disclosed size or weight either.

The bitchy comments on todays charity posts are unreal, Im glad this one still seems quite civilised!

I think these ideas are great, I think we are going to do something like this for my daughters nursery instead of the traditional crapy box of chocs for the teachers! Train a teacher for £27!!! bargain!

now that's more like it, with education theres less hysteria & fighting as rationale spreads, the commitment shown by teachers in the 3rd world is tremendous, often they have not been paid for months or instigate schooling themselves.
