Betrayed by his country. Beaten into slavery. Reborn as a warrior. Spartacus: Blood and Sand is a graphic and visceral account of Rome's most famous gladiator. When he's separated from the love of his life, Spartacus is forced into the gruesome and bloodthirsty arena, where a grisly death is primetime entertainment. Spartacus must fight for survival, befriend his enemies and play politics in this new world of corruption, violence, sex and fame. He'll be seduced by power and tormented by vengeance. But his passion will give him the strength to prevail over every obstacle, in this modern and uninhibited tale of death, honour and endurance.

Special Features : -
* Gladiator Boot Camp
* In The Hole
* Make Up Effects
* History Rewritten
* Sex, Romance, Love
* Bloopers
* Anatomy of a Scene
* Starz Studios
* Heroes v Villians
* Audio Commentaries

* Use code FTSL15-1 to buy at this price (can be used more than once if on a different email)

** Ok, this isn't due for release for an eternity yet (god knows why) and I'm sure they have the release date wrong; however the code which enables you to preorder at this price aint around for ever and this is easily the best preorder price for this. Also; Tesco do a pricepromise thing - ie if it does drop in price then they will charge you the lowest price. But to be honest, I can't see this dropping below £23.77 (will eat my hat if it does). And, Tesco don't take money until dispatch; so you can always cancel.

*** One last thing - Starz have officially announced that there will be a Season 2

**** Sorry, really one last thing - having dug around I think this is the official DVD cover rather than the stock images on Amazon/Play

bluray Viva Bianca ftw. Will wait aslong as i have to for bluray.

Definantly an awesome show.

It's available for free in HD to Virgin XL subscribers.

They've only got 4 or 5 episodes available to view at the moment but they add one a week (a week or a fortnight after the episode has been shown on Bravo in SD.)

Great series best by far this year, Coronation St/Eastenders it is NOT.

Watched it from Starzz in US , great in HD....

Pity the Lead actor Andy Whitfield has got Cancer and hopefully he can make the second series ....CLICKY

Probably, but they are totally different series. Rome was massive cast, historical sweep, complex characters and a cast of hundreds and thousands it also had many millions of £s spent on it.

Spartacus is not the same, they don have a large cast, they dont have a large budget and other than having a roman time theme it is all fiction and not historical. Spartacus doesnt have the budget or epic sweep that Rome does. After the initial episode it focuses mostly on the Spartacus as a gladiator and his training. The locations are either at the Gladiator school, in the connected villa or in the arean with a bit of street intrigue thrown in at the market.

Its slow to start and sometimes an episode is spartacus trying to fit in, bit of intrigue by John Hannah the owner and then a fight in the arena. Its a bit formulaic and slow. This was the company finding its feet. The plot and writers do grow into the series such that things finally being to happen and by the end lots of little strands really come together, its much improved and great fun. I cna only think the second season will be even better. They are doing a 6 episode prequel as he main character/actor ahs cancer in real life.

The thing that marks the show out are:

Good production values despite limited budget and that includes the cgi. Its impressive what they do and thats by keeping it small and almost claustraphobic.

Theres a lot of nudity, swearing and violence. The violence is very imaginative, but comic book with lots of blood in the style of 300.

Quite good acting and plot that improves with the series.

So in summary you might and probably will like it if you liked Rome, but its very different.

Silly TV version of a fantastic tale.
Actual historical Spartacus was one of the most incredible blokes in history.
But...the "I'm Spartacus ! ..No, I'm Spartacus....I'm Spartacus !" never happened, nor was he crucified. Some say he died throwing himself against several legionaries fighting, some that he actually got away (wishful thinking there)

Heat added.

By Jupiter's c**k!
I'll be buying this.

Whilst I wouldn't mind a second series, the conclusion for series 1 does seem a bit 'permanent'. Unless they stage it in a completely different part of his life?

I really enjoyed watching them, I had to watch the last few episodes back to back as I couldn't wait to see what happened. And this is a great price for the full series. I'm not so sure it's going to work in HD though, you could see flaws in the effects just at standard definition. One stab wound actually moved about on the recipients arm!

It's so incredibly offensive though, Mary Whitehouse must be turning in her grave!

I think the second season is on hold, I heard the lead star has cancer....I was told this by a friend, but couldn't find anything about it on the internet

Took three Roman armies to beat him in the end.
The armies of Marcus Licinius Crassus (the Bill gates of his time - Super-rich !) Pompey the Great, and Lucullus (another good general, if a bit plodding) were needed to finish of the slave rebellion.
Stupid thing was, they had got to Cisalpine Gaul (Southern France/North West Italy) and all they had to do was go back home and be free. They turned back south for more plunder, then split to get more due to the Gaul Crixus who may have been a bit jealous of Spartacus, then the Romans wiped out the group led by Crixus, despite him having more men than the Romans - but Spartacus kept on winning battles though, despite having supposedly a smaller army of men, and also hampered by women and kids. The Romans sorted out the Silician pirates to stop them getting away leading to just the final battle.
Sorry...getting carried away there. telling the real story off Spartacus, when Ive only seen the first episode of this.

Voted HOT as i always dreamed of seeing Xena Princess Warriors (lucy lawless) puppies.

I'm Spartacus

I thought this was show was very, very good! The first few episodes are abit of a drag like Mr Brooker says, but by the end I was captivated by the show. Its very nice looking too, both the settings and the females!

This is total filth.
Loads of sex, Loads of violence, Villians who are proper evil ( Crixus is the best evil guy since mogwai in Last of the Mohicans (with possible exception of Tbag in prison break) , And the gay bloke from four weddings and a funeral plays a bloke called Battyus. (made me chuckle in a Beavis and Butthead style manner for about 40 minutes at that bit of casting)

To describe it to those who havent seen it - its a bit like the film gladiator but done in the style of the film 300.

I commend it to the the house. Best series of this year (sorry sons of anarchy/house/breaking bad/lost/24) Those who are about to die - I salute you.

Batiatus - You kiss my cheek then finger my ****!

Some cracking lines in this series, LOL.

Not a bad "in a nutshell" at all that

It is, by a country mile, the best thing on TV atm. And in many respects makes "Rome" look like a kids TV party (although I love Rome too)

Yeah, this is pure filth; well scripted; great characters; excellent subplots; wonderful direction and god knows why Sky let Bravo have this one. Should be as big as any of Sky1's flagship shows but might be lost a bit on Bravo to many viewers. (In a similar way that "Supernatural" is missed a bit tucked away on Living)
#33
But they are different things (Rome and Spartacus) its like comparing a comic with a novel or a shoot em up with a strategy game. If you want violence and sex watch this.

Consdiering budget the production values are very good.

Got a bit more info on the future of "Spartacus: Blood and Sand"

The show was initially renewed for a second season, but production was delayed because Whitfield (Spartacuss) was diagnosed with early-stage non-Hodgkin lymphoma. Due to the delay, Starz announced on May 11, 2010, that it is developing a six-episode prequel to Spartacus: Blood and Sand. The prequel, Spartacus: Gods of the Arena, will begin production in August 2010 and shoot six episodes. The prequel will premiere in January 2011. The plot will tell the story of Batiatus (John Hannah) who is not yet the head of his family or of the gladiator training school.

Filming of season 2 has begun following the announcement that Whitfield is thankfully cancer free

By Jupiters "ahem" this is all fantastic news

Can't wait; best thing on TV atm by a country mile
