I was researching yesterday on a new Hybrid bike within £250 range and I found this little beauty!

Last years price was £342.50 and now most places like Evanscycle and Dales sells it for £299. The next cheapest I found was £280 so this is a bargain.

Edinburghbicycle sells the Expedition Sport model which is one model down for £264 although you can get the Sport from Evans for £199, I think getting an Elite for the same price is a great deal.

Please read the spec as you are getting alot for under £200!!

I'm 5ft 10. Think this would be okay? I thought going for an 18inch frame might be too small for me.

I seriously thought this deal would have been alot higher heated! Its the best Hybrid you can buy for under £200 and its £80 less than the next cheapest!!

so what special about it. i not know much about it apart from its a bike. what hybird. mtb/ street bike?
#7
Is this a hybrid? Looks very upright. Great for around town but can't imagine you'll get a lot of speed out of it. This is more hybrid for me:

100 degrees is hot for a bike on HUKD..... and given this is not an outstanding deal it is not going to be fancied by everyone. If it was £99.99 it would be a Good deal but at £199.99 - nah too many other alternatives. I am a very serious Cyclist though with many top of the range bikes and I always vote hot for any bike deals so have some heat from me!

I am looking for a new bike, and this seems good value to me. However, I am only 5'8", so I'm guessing this bike will be a bit too big for me?

All I need is a bike that I can use to ride to and from work in London.

London? The way traffic is there, you should try one of these instead:

I agree - you can't really gauge how hot a bike deal is going to go. One bike was posted on here reduced £400 to £320 managed 230 degrees, but the exact same bike reduced further to £256 only got to 51 degrees!

Yeah thats true but to be fair to me, when I posted that comment, it was only 48 degrees or something!

Well I'm only going with the size recommended by specialized. You cant use standard measuring for this kind of bike. With it being a large you may find your arms may ache after a while as the handlebars are so high. You could buy a low rise stem to bring the handlebars down a little. Ask the dealer should get one for about £10. It needs to be a 1.1/8" size and not more than 110mm reach.

If I were spending around the £200 mark I would get the BeOne Aspire 1 and put some hybrid tyres on it.
But if speed and ease of cycling is what your after buy a road bike. The look on car drivers faces when there stuck in traffic and you fly by at 30mph.

Why?
I looked at the BeOne Aspire and it had odd named components.
At least the Specialised will have all decent Shimano kit on it etc. Those armadillo tyres are worth around 40 quid. The most puncture proof tyres I've used, although hard riding.

Like what? The main group set on the Aspire 1 are Shimano Deore which at this price range is fantastic. In fact its all about as normal as it gets all brands I have heard of. The chain isn't great but thats about it.

I thought Hybrid bikes had mudguards, chain guard and carrier . It wont be much good for going to work without those. Or am I confusing Hybrid with another type ?

deal seems to have expired, link is now broken...

Great bike if you're not wanting a 'real mtb'.

I'm not knocking it by typing that as I've got one and I love it.....but you do sit very upright, which is great for the back but if you're planning on downhill racing then it's not for you.

I wouldn't be concerned about getting one if you're 5'10'' but as with all bikes you really need to sit on one before you can decide whether it is a good fit for you. I'd suggest getting down to either Edinburgh Coop or Evans Cycles - not because they are necessarily the best but they generally have decent deals (although Evans were really helpful to me last year).

I commute 12 miles from West to the City every day, not sure about you but I'd go for a fast road bike. I have a Giant FCR 1 2009 for now but my next move will be a Specialized race bike.

what does hybrid mean?
#22

what does hybrid mean?

It's a term for a bike that is intended to be used on-road, but for people who do not want a racing bike.
e.g.; it will have flat handlebars like an MTB, but thinner tyres (generally 700cc), and usually no suspension (as you don't need that on the road).

If the tyres are up to it, they may occasionally be capable of a little trail use.
#26
Ordered one, they phoned and said they had none.

Can anyone recomend another recommend at a similar price?

I looked into both when I bought mine but went for the Expedition.

In the end, only having a single gear on the Centrum was too restricting for me to commute in as Glasgow is built on a big hill.

I found the Centrum to lack a bit of power too. Although I have to say, it does look pretty sweet but in the end the Expedition was £50 cheaper and met my needs.
#30
so does the expedition feel very easy to ride around glasgow? I need to know its not as tough as a mountain bike is... because riding one of those on the road feels like wasted effort half the time.

No idea mate. Mine gets delivered on Wednesday. Will test drive it then.

I wouldnt recommend a moutain bike for communting unless you work on a potato patch.

If its general commuting then a Hybrid is defo your bike!
#32
oh, ok. I think I'm going to go for the centrum as I'm terrible for maintaining things so single speed would suit me. I stay in Dundee and I just need to travel 3 miles on a flat road to get to work. I've been told changing the (whatever it's called) at the back to one with 13 teeth solves the power issue, if need be. Anyway, I await your opinion on the expedition, thanks!
