It should have been the Millenium Tower but it was "a bit late":):whistling:

It's in Portsmouth by the way.

Oh I see.. so is it just for observing then? Or is there a bar or restaurant at the top or something ?

Are there that many kids in Portsmouth that actually know who their dad is? Could be quite a quiet day up the old tower...........

I've forwarded the link on to Boris Johnson, with a bargain like that I guarantee he'll be there like a shot. :whistling:

Having been to both,I think it's fair to say the Burj just had the edge, and the lift was working!!
Worth going to Gunwharf for the shops though!

Just a quick warning if your going to Portsmouth do not touch anything as your likely to catch something and keep your wallet in your front pocket as your likely to be mugged.

Also it may be best to bring a satnav as the traffic/roads around there makes no sense at all and although it may not take long to get there, it will take ages to actually get through to where you want to go... also make sure you clean everything before re-entering your home... :)

Were you born a fool or has it just come through practice???

I live in Portsmouth, and I'm sure it's no dirtier (or cleaner) than many other cities within the UK so ease up on your (presumably intended) humour.

Nothing says 'I hate you Dad' more than dragging him down to Pompey for Fathers' Day......

Having only been to Portsmouth once for a weekend about 7-8 years afo, you couldnt pay me enough to go back again. There seemed to be a fight going on on every pub corner. It was quite scary to say the least.

sounds overcrowded.....

It is the tallest freestanding viewing platform in the UK, the tallest is actually the BT Tower but it's nolonger open to the public. It also has the fastest inclined lift in the world. AND the outside lift was working when I drove past 5 mins ago. I've been up twice, once in the day and once at night for a posh do and I can recommend it. I would warn you that Gunwharf gets busy on a Sunday yif you were to intend to drive, I'd drive to Fratton or Town Centre and cab or train it down. It's a great day out but not really for a fathers day. 42 places to eat and plenty of places to spend all ya money.

Play up Pompey! Don't listen to any of the spiteful remarks here about FA Cup winning Portsmouth. I lived there for 20 years and have travelled the length and breadth of the country since. Pompey is no worse than any other UK city and a whole lot better than most! Stunning views and a stones throw from the IOW, Hayling Island, Southsea, Historical Dockyard (with HMS Victory), Portsdown etc etc . Great pubs and clubs, great shopping and leisure activities. I will definitely be going back to live there one day. Please notice those who have left nasty comments haven't identified their own home city! Just go and make your own mind up.

Sailed past the tower Saturday night on our way back from Normandy. Mightily impressive. Portsmouth seems a whole lot different from the last time i visited back in 1994. Looks like a lot of construction and expansion is going on which must be good for the locals.

The outside lift may be going up and down but it certainly isn't carrying passengers yet - far too unreliable.

I have been up a few times and there is a glass floor at 100m up which is pretty scary.
