Split/Second brings a whole new dynamic to driving games, with some of the most explosive and action-oriented races ever.

Put the pedal to the metal and scream through deserted racecourses rigged with explosives. In Split/Second's unique approach to racing drifting corners, pulling handbrake turns and scraping paint passing other cars fills your powerplay meter.

Powerplay juice lets you unleash massive environmental triggers to devastating affect on other racers and the track itself. Bring down bridges, smash cars off the track, send flying debris everywhere with a well-time powerplay and explode from the back of the pack to take that Split/Second photo-finish win.

Split/Second tears up the racing rulebook to bring you an all-new explosive approach to speed. It's time to bring the house down

#2
I expect he means GAME stores nationwide!
#3
hope its a nationwide sale. would like to see a receipt if possible though, don't want to waste my time going town for nothing :)

edit: called my local store they are saying its still full price but tomorrow there are offer pricing coming in so might be different tomorrow.
#4
I just bought it lunchtime today from the Oxford Street store, and it is nationwide.

They had recently 'stickered' them and I bought it so I assume they will sell it elsewhere as well.

Thanks for this I have a £7 game voucher so can get it for £17.99

How long is this game..

I knew I should've traded my games for a credit note here instead of hmv. Your games are worth more at HMV but then they don't have many items jump down in price. Unlike at game where a few weeks after release all (except the biggest games) now shoot down in price. It's sweet for us, the consumer!!

I'm sure your son will like it, explosions, buildings collapsing, fast cars. What's not to like if your 12!

It's available online too just in case that hadn't been pointed out yet.

Heat added.

Yes my dear, you are indeed wrong. Let's just put it this way - If I had a son who was 12, i'd get them blur.
#15
Thanks ordered.
#16
Personally I have both Blur and Split/Second and I think they're both very good games...each to their own though.
#17
Good price, still waiting for it to hit £17.99 before I pick this one up.

If you speak to a lady like that you are never likely to have any children! ;)

I have "Split/Second: Velocity" & my three kids (all 12, or under) enjoy playing it (as do I).

I thought this concept looked really good, but has the handling of the cars improved since the demo?

The demo version only offered three vehicles didn't it? Or was it just one?

Either way, as you progress through the game & win more points you unlock vehicles with different attributes & handling capabilities.

Thanks for the post. Picked up a copy from Cheshire Oaks GAME this evening. Should keep my little lad quiet for a while. He's been playing Blur (And been enjoying it too!)

what game modes

Picked it up at this price yesterday, played it briefly and it rocks! It's like James Bond meets Final Destination.

I'm obviously watching different movies to you! :)

Seriously though, according to the developers at Black Rock Studios, the action is supposed to represent video game play if Jerry Bruckheimer (producer of the remake of "Gone in Sixty Seconds" starring Nicholas Cage, amongst many other projects) designed it.

what game modes

The game centres (or "centers", I supposed) around a fictional reality TV program (like the recent [remake/update] of "Death Race" starring Jason Statham) where participants race for credits.

Throughout a race you build up a "powerplay" meter by performing stunts (jumps, drafting, & drifting). At certain points on the meter special "events" can be triggered, the severity of which will be dependent on the meter level. These events (mainly in the form of explosions from the sides of the course or by the dropping of bombs from hovering helicopters) can be the creation of obstacles for other players, the creation of shortcuts for you to bypass the other vehicles, &/or the changing of the race course layout so that, say, in a three lap race, you can if you wish change the layout twice so that each lap is a variation of the previous lap.

In the reality TV show guise, the "season" mode consists of the entire game with 72 events across 12 "episodes".

As well as a standard "race" (to the finish line against vehicles controlled by the console/platform) the game modes available are:

"Air Attack" - dodge one, a few, or many incoming missiles fired from a helicopter whilst trying to meet a predefined score limit.

"Air Revenge" - similar to "Air Attack" but the "powerplay" meter allows you to return fire on the helicopter(s).

"Survival" / "Nemesis" - avoid a series of trucks rolling barrels in the path of your vehicle within a given time limit.

"Time Trial" - complete a course (single lap) within a given time limit (whilst environmental explosions are triggered for you to navigate).

The online multiplayer mode allows eight players in one race, & there is also a two-player offline split-screen mode.

So... to answer your query... I paid £39.99 each for three PS3 products (delivered by GAME.co.uk two days before the official release date) for myself & two of my kids. On the day of release GAME dropped the price to £34.99, & I received a voucher for the difference.

This title stopped me playing "Battlefield: Bad Company 2" (online), that I had played continuously for almost two months.

So, yes, I think it is definitely worth £17.99, but £24.99 is a great price too! :)

However, since "Joe Danger" has been available for download from the PlayStation Store/Network I have not played "Split/Second: Velocity". I want to go back as I enjoy pushing myself to shave the odd second or two off my lap times & finding better ways to complete courses & events I have already completed... but "Joe Danger" is equally a "just one more go" kind of game & it is keeping my attention for the time being.

(It could also be that I have to put the "Split/Second: Velocity" Blu-ray Disc in my PS3 & "Joe Danger" is installed on my console's hard drive; so an element of laziness may be the real reason!)

BFN,

fp.

PS. You do not have a handbrake to use!?!

Just bought this today I was going to get Blur but I wasn't sure if I would like it or not because Actvision didn't bother to put a demo on PSN. Split/Second is great it has a lot of action and the movie action style music really makes the game feel more dramatic. Disney has defiantly picked up the right Studio that is Black Rock Studio and I also thought Pure was a great racing game but Split/Second is way more exciting.

I've had this game two days now and I'm really enjoying it. I don't play many racers cus I'm not into simulation, so those who like arcade racers I can defo reccommend this to. I've played the demo of blur and to me it felt like a ford focus with a rocket launcher....it just doesn't work imo.
