Split/Second, an intense action racing game set within the world of a hyper-competitive reality television show. Competitors vie to be the first across the finish line in a made-for-TV city built for destruction, with the ultimate goal of becoming the season champion. Competitors in Split/Second don't just collide with other vehicles to knock them from the track - they can also trigger explosive events that drastically alter the dynamics of the race. Players must use strategy and pinpoint timing to derail opponents, tactically alter the track or create entirely new routes.

Thanks, almost bought this earlier in ASDA for £25, saved me an extra £2!
#2
this has come down in price quick
#3
In store too?
#4
I'll probably pick this up when it hits the £15 mark, as I really enjoyed the demo.
#5
Awesome game. I paid full price and don't regret it for a second. Get this for the amazing single player, and Blur the amazing online.
#6
Great game, especially multiplayer split screen... Gets a little repetitive, but definitely worth this much and more.
#7
This or Blur, that is the question......
#8
@ Anthonyuk, not sure if it's Instore aswell as i don't have a GAME or gamestation locally i imagine not though

I have both and like both equally. Only issue i find online with SS is you need a very decent car to compete online i.e complete the single player element to get decent cars to race online.

With blur the online is better because it has different "sections" that unlock as your online level increases so is fairer all round, plus i think the MP element is better if i had to choose, far more fun.
#10
Does blur have a cat and mouse type online game the way the PGR games had?.Loved that mode
#11
usually this WILL be instore aswell

I was/ am very disapointed by Split Second. It was meant to be even better experience than back when Burnout Takedown was released. It isn't. The cars don't feel as though they are going fast. Sure the scenery flys by but I don't get that same feeling that you get with boost on Burnout. The drifting around corners also feels wrong. The whole game plays like it is wrapped in a sponge. The power plays also aren't as tactical as the previews suggested they would be, you wait to save up a x3 red powerplay, follow 1st around the entire track and can't even use the thing! Its just a poorly thought out game with a few cool bits, but its the sort of game you never really get to know in terms of being able to master it. A great game should be where you can get that good at it that you blame yourself for any errors, Split Second on the other hand will have you cursing the inconsistent rules of the game and the sluggish controls.

Which one is better for a car mad 6yr old?? I used to let him play on GTA WITHOUT sound but he's banned now because he couldn't resist shooting civilians  I really want to get him a decent driving game (not 100% racer, got plenty of those) with lots of opportunities to smash the cars without swearing or bloodshead?!?!?

There is only 1 game to buy a 6 year old who wants all that and it is Flatout - ultimate carnage. Very cheap and a quality game

I prefer "Flatout 2" [PS2], but "Destruction Derby (Full Game)" is also available from the PlayStation Store (for £3.99; released to the 'Store on 29 November 2007 / initially released in 1995 for the original PlayStation console).

It is compatible with both the PSP & PS3 consoles.

Hi fanpages. Ultimate carnage is flatout 2 isn't it. Destruction derby is not available on xbox though. My 7 year old and his brother who is a bit older played flatout to death and especially all the mini games that go with it
#17
Online is dead for me, tried 6 or 7 times to find a game and no ones around.
#18
For anyone that's interested or can't wait to get it on-line, it's £25 in-store at the moment (Chelmsford branch, anyway).

I only just bought this Saturday and almost finished it Split/Second is addictive for it's single player but the multiplayer I've had no problems finding a match but I just didn't it was that great. Split/Second is still worth getting though it's career is fun I did like the story of it been set as a reality TV show. I do hope Disney Interactive get Black Rock to develop another.

As for Blur that game is better for it's online modes and it has up to 20 players online so it's really difficult trying to make it to 1st place when everyone is firing weapons at you, but even though I haven't come 1st yet I'm having loads of fun with it.
#22
Blur is amazing online, the offline mode blows though. I have won plenty of races even with nigh on 20 players racing. If you get out in front on Blur you pull clear as you defend the attacks while the attackers get hit from others.

As I replied to you a few days ago; I considered it worth buying at £39.99, so yes, £22 is a bargain.

However, like most things, the price will fall in time, so if you have not got £22 to spend now, wait until later.

"FlatOut 2" (PS2, Mac OS X, ,MS-Windows, Xbox) [2006]
"FlatOut: Ultimate Carnage" (MS-Windows, Xbox 360) [2007] formerly known as "...Total Carnage"

Thanks for the advice guys, I've seen flatout TC for a few quid somewhere, I might get him that and Split/Second as I dont like him being online due to the idiots on there who insist on swearing and shouting abuse etc

I'd love to be able to tell you, but unfortunately GAME have no tracking information on my pre-order posted on Tuesday & it has not arrived. (I have just spoken with their Customer Services team).

I have to wait up to 15 days before GAME will consider it "lost" in the postal system & they can make a claim.

Something else was despatched to me yesterday & that has arrived!?!

I have received my e-mail from GAME with the Exclusive downloadable content redemption code though :)

If you spot me online & beat me in an online race in "Split/Second: Velocity" [PS3] you'll gain the (hidden) Trophy "Team BlackRock"; the description is "Beat a member of the development team or someone who has beaten them".

I like the idea of this Trophy. It means that if anybody now beats me they are awarded it as well. It is like a viral award. Hmmm... maybe I can think of a better name than that.

It is a double-edged sword though as I'll be a target if enough people find I have the Trophy. When I "pass on the baton" I will be less marked, I hope.
