Anyone with a real hifi needs one of these. Sounds way better than my PC which has a £400 sound card in it!

Don't forget Quidco too - 5%.
Delivery is free which also helps.

I ordered two Squeezebox receivers from here this morning for £92.65 each - should come in at about £88 each after Quidco. Cheapest I have seen these elsewhere online is £99.

Can't see the point of a touchscreen Squeezebox myself...
Is the Squeezebox receiver just a normal Squeezebox minus the display? Thx

Essentially, yes - the product info page is here

The code also seems to work on other things aswell

Took delivery of one yesterday to replace my SB3/Classic. Bought primarily for it's supposed ability to run it's own version of the server software together with a local USB HDD. This should mean not having a PC constantly running.

Considering how late this was to market while they supposedly got the firmware right, I'm thoroughly unimpressed & it will be going straight back.

Logitech really don't seem to have a clue what to with the Squeezebox range since they acquired it from SlimDevices.

Are you saying that facility doesn't work?

I am using mine on its own (no network) with a USB drive. It can take a while to get it set up but its fine now. What problems are you having? Have you looked on the slimdevices forums, every issue you could ever have can be fixed on there.

Depends on your definition of "work".
Can you play music files from a local USB drive? - Yes you can.

Can you import playlists that you have created on the PC software? - No.

Can you select a folder to scan on the USB disk so you don't get duplications of FLAC & MP3 files? - No.

Will it index an artist (& presumably an album/track) with a full stop in the name? - No.

Can you still control the inbuilt server from a web browser? - No.

Is music playback faultless? - Not on my mains powered Seagate Freeagent. Music sometimes stops a few seconds after starting with a rebuffering message. Seems to be a lottery as to whether it recovers or not.

Are all USB drives supported? - No. Some portable devices may need more power than the Touch can provide.

Does Logitech publish an up to date list of those that are? - No.
If you're coming to this anew then you may be satisfied. If you're used to the PC software then you may well be disappointed. This is of course just my opinion.

You can download SqueezePlay for your PC instead, that is basically the Touch interface on the desktop. The wiki on the logitech site lists some compatible drives

I believe you need an external DAC to get the best out of the sound.
#13
quidco tracks at £11.01

I have my pc linked to the PS3 which is then linked via optical cable to an external DAC. Using a cheapish Chinese DAC is far better sound quality than a Squeezebox for less money (if you already have the PS3).
#15
you could power a small village once you have your ps3, tv, computer, dac ect on - never mind the noise

the limiting factor in this would be the dac and if you compared this to your ps3 through the same dac i bet you couldn't tell any difference at all

have you heard the new touch as the dac in this one is better than the old one - also you're missing the point if you're buying this to use the internal dac - really this is a device to send a digital singnal to a quality dac to send high quality digital files to your stereo

the dac in it like the headphone socket is an added feature that most of the population will prob never use!

Tried to order the Squeezebox Touch from the UK Logitech site using my LloydsTSB card but repeatedly received 'failed authentication' message. Frustrating to say that least. Called Logitech support but the gentleman insisted that it was fault at the side my credit card company. I use the same card elsewhere online without problem... grrrr, I want the Touch at the discounted price!!

well logitech are not in the habit of refusing business so the problem has got to be at your end.
Phone your card company

Got a call from automated LloydsTSB this morning asking me to confirm recent transactions. 4 declines with Logitech yesterday! Confirmed all. Went back to Logi site and tried again.. BOOM!! Touch is ordered!! Sweet deal...

Shame about the pain in the arse system Lloyds are using though...
