A modern day reinvention of one of the most critically acclaimed arcade franchises of all-time, EA Sports SSX will allow players to experience the franchise's signature fun and adrenaline-packed gameplay across iconic mountain ranges all over the world.

Redefining the SSX franchise, SSX will pit riders versus both mountain and man. Players will explore the story of a team who seek to be the first to descend the faces of the most treacherous mountain ranges on the planet. The team will travel the world to face the worst that Mother Nature can throw at them.

From the peaks of the Himalayas, where the air is so thin that riders have to descend through the death zone at breakneck speeds to keep from blacking out, to the solid ice ranges of Antarctica, where a sunlit line is the only survival option when temperatures drop 50 degrees centigrade in the shade.

And the mountain isn't the only danger players will face. In SSX the first goal is to survive. The second, in true SSX fashion, is to look good doing it.

Using NASA topographical satellite data, we've mapped out a Massive World for players to explore. Throughout nine expansive mountain ranges, SSX packs reality-defying gameplay into every run letting players Race, Trick, and Survive down huge open mountains. In addition, Explore, Global Events and RiderNet - SSX's recommendation engine - headline an online feature set that will revolutionize social competition for gamers, making it fun and easy to compete with friends on your schedule.

Not sure as it is taken an unusally long time to get to this price (by todays standards anyway). I have been waiting for this to fall so going for it, thanks OP.

Hot from me. Shame SSX hasnt gone back to its SSX Tricky days, but still better then the last few we have had.

I agree. I loved SSX and SSX Tricky. Just went downhill from there. Call me simple but I was happy with the way those played. Just race after race no travelling around mountains trying to find things to do etc.
#6
SSX Tricky was epic. Could play that on 2 player all day long. 49 vs 50. Ok first to 100!

Only race type game before that was probably Rollcage on PS1 where could just play it continously. Ok and Mario Kart SNES!

really don't know whether to go for this. I liked the demo but found the new control system to be overcomplicated..... Hmmm. Decisions.

Same here.

But the lack of splitscreen makes me want to wait till its cheaper.. orr till a new one comes out. Am just gonna rebuy Tricky for £2!

I'll wait till it's cheaper. I loved SSX Tricky and I still play it if I can be bothered to dig the old Xbox out. This new one is very different and I'm not sure if I like it. I'm a little disappointed after such a long wait.

I got it on release and like others here loved Tricky. The problem with this game is that it doesnt have the fun factor. Its too much trial and error and in a lot of instances punishes you for making tricks. I finished the career then traded it.

Voted hot though as this is the cheapest about

"one of the most critically acclaimed arcade franchises of all-time"

Really?

REALLY??
#14
SSX Tricky was a good game, I also loved Amped 3, although I think I may have been the only one? Haha
#15
This version feels too 'new' to be like the old SSX days. And you will need a great deal of patience.
#16
Was going to buy this until i realised there is no multiplayer mode. Why oh why did they get rid of that?
:(

hot

No doubt in favour of the new 'RiderNet' Mode mate...just one of the dissapointments on offer with EA thinking that simply everyone lives to 'facebook' their scores...Not!! Just remembered that the old SSX games were made by a then sector of EA called 'EA BIG' which seemed to go someway to add to the humour. Suffice to say BIG are history now with this SSX becoming EA SPORTS.. and totally out of tune with customers (nostalgic) expectations...

Not sure if it's worth buying now or wait for another price drop!.

#21
Heat added, though I still haven't touched my £30 copy.
#22
hopefully if the Tony Hawk's HD is a success, we'll see an SSX one too

#26
I will stick with Cool Boarders...
#27
any game with no multiplayer is a no no
#28
Got this for one day on lovefilm and sent it back, you can change the controls to classic mode but the gameplay was poor compared to SSX3. Really disappointing
#29
Everyone loved Tricky. See how many "I loved Tricky" posts on this thread.
You do have to wonder what goes on over at EA sometimes.
I was gutted when this version turned out to be another, grungey young persons flurescent jacket - tinnie temper - skateboarder d0000d - gothic - punky loud music - trick making fest.

When most people wanted a multi-player snow racing game to play with their mates. They put alot of effort into the modelling of the mountains, but missed with the basic game mechanic. Numbskulls.

I absolutely loved this game. Nearly 100%'d it. To anyone wondering if they should buy this, I'd at least download the demo and give that a play and make up your own mind, rather than listening to all the negative reviews here!
#31
In its own right its a good game. But compare it to the great days of SSX on the PS2 ... and its not so good. Yes, get a demo before parting with cash. But either way you will die a great deal..and if that wasnt enough the very irrirating anti - death rewind feature will finish you off while all the other racers leave you miles behind glitchstucked in a aeroplane fuselage......
#32
Amazon price matched too and this will be sub £15 soon enough.

Meh. I'll stick with Steep Slope Sliders :D

Bought it and traded it after a few days, no split screen, very fast and hectic and felt more like a button basher than anything, loved cool boarders etc years ago but just didn't find this fun at all.

Amped 3 was fantastic. No idea why it got so much hate. I loved the original Amped on the XBOX but Amped 3 was just so wonderfully mental. Really tempted to pick this SSX up, enjoyed the demo enough and Amazon have now price matched it.

I've never got any of my riders stuck so bad I couldn't immediately rewind out of it for a second and just go a different way...
