sorted byThose reports are pretty old. Measured journalists that have spent time with the control scheme have reported that once you get used to it, it's very intuitive.

I played it during EGX in Birmingham and I thought the controls were spot on, I didn't have any troubles at all.

Yep, like splatoon, once you spend a bit of time with it, the controls feel natural - at least, that's what online opinions seem to indicate. I haven't played it yet so can't comment personally.
my point was kinda if you need to spend time on it isn't intuitive, you've just learned it. but never mind
Ah - don't think I got my point across clearly - I think what I mean is that it feels natural after using it for a while. If it's anything like Splatoon's controls then after a couple of minutes everything felt natural. Every control scheme you've ever used took a bit of time to adjust - some were quicker to adjust than others but there's still an adjustment period. Fastest way to check is to give the controls to a non-gamer.
Your concerns about the control scheme are entirely valid - particularly as it's so new. But recent reports from other people's playtests indicate it's less of a concern than it was originally.
You can't in Splatoon, unless you are talking about the crazy reported idea of using sticky tape to stick your chosen controller to a Wii U remote, which almost no one has been ridiculous enough to test or try out (me included).
I have not tried Star Fox yet.
It is awful to think that you have this screen based controller with the Wii U, that can give proper local multiplayer without the need for a Split Screen on your TV, but functionality is minimal. Even in MK8 when you can do this, it still splits the screen. Nintendo have far from perfected the gamepad screen controller, and its functionality, and how it can be used. It would not have been difficult to even allow more than 1 gamepad screen to be linked to the same Wii U, but they couldn't even manage to enable that.
I don't like being critical of Nintendo, but sometimes you need to on such occasions.
For Splatoon, I'm afraid you've missed the alternate (typical style) stick control. It removes the gyroscope control and replaces it with normal fps-type camera coverage. I'm guessing that's what you wanted, yes?
EDIT: Btw, they did look into the idea of attaching two gamepads, but for whatever reason, it's never materialised. Probably due to wireless bandwidth, I'm guessing.
