Got this from Zavvi for £17.95. Thought it was awful.

Luckily sold on Ebay for £30+.

Star Ocean, ruined on the Xbox.

Really wished they focused on the Playstation, where they had the experience and every other Star Ocean release.

Shame all the Star Ocean fans are waiting on the PS3/PSP for this average game to come out.

Its not bad, its definitely the worst in the series though. It looks great but the story telling & character progression is just terrible.

Traded this in today incidentally at CEX for £28. Game were also offering £24 trade in.

And that is what makes your previous point about it should stay on the PlayStation totally pointless, when it comes to story telling and character progression it makes NO difference to what machine they develop it for (the story is the story simple as that), or do you think all of a sudden their story telling magically goes wrong if they don't make it on the PS first :whistling:

Got this when it was released last week. I am loving it a lot so far. I like JRPG's a lot and this is one of the best on the system. True the cutscenes with the kid arent very good but the actual gameplay is very appealing and absorbing. I Highly recommend it for that price its a steal. Tons of sidequests and go up to 80 hours if you want to do everything.

Theres a massive collection of averageJRPGs only on the Xbox. Companies are releasing them too frequently on a platform that doesnt suit the genre in the first place (the fans are on a different platform!). The story telling would be greatly affected with the lack of effort showing. Square Enix in particular have gone really downhill by not focusing on too many platforms and too many games.

Its not the 360s fault, its just that most JRPGs have been released on it. Its all to do with the platform sadly. Its like the genre has been forced onto it.

JRPGs have been given a really bad reputation because of this.

Some of the "fans" may also be on a different platform but I doubt very much if it's the PS3 as they would know there is really nothing new in this genre on that platform, So other than 360 owners I would think the rest are on the PS2 and the Wii particularly as the PS3 is the only system of the 3(next gen consoles) which is not backyard compatible, as for Square Enix they are just the publishers of these games they don't make them i.e Star ocean is made by tri-Ace etc , (Do you really think Square Enix are going to take years on every game like FF as they now have to do on next gen consoles with no other funds coming in?.)
The better game for me so far is Lost Odyssey which has nothing to do with Square Enix at all.
As for your opinion that JRPGs have been given a bad name that's just silly and for the rest of us who can play these games now I'm sure they would agree.

Backyard compatible?

Best JRPG of this generation so far, Valkyria Chronicles scoring a massive 87% which kind of dwarfs the 78% scored by Lost Odyssey or the 72% Star Ocean gets...

Valkyria also give you the option of Japanese audio, which is is quite important in relation to JAPANESE RPGs...

You just constantly repeat yourself as you did on the last Start Ocean deal that Millercat posted.

What has someone who scores a game got to do with if I am going to like it or not?.
As I told you Lost Odyssey also has the option of Japanese ,German French and English Language which of course will make it even more important eh.

And backyard compatibility at least the 360 has it and is 100% more backward compatible than any PS3 currently on the market.

And hows the PS3 exclusive Crackdown sorry I mean Infamous sales doing ?last time I looked they we about half of what UFC done on it's first week, maybe they should of put Japanese language option in it.

What happened to the next deal?

Shows how poor Star Ocean is really doesn't it? Brand new game, reduced to £22.99 and still not sold out.

Must of been the same reason why it happened to the higher rated Valkyria Chronicles then, it could be they have had plenty of stock or more likely that JRPGs do not fly off the shelfs like WRPGs(I.e Fable 2) it's no big secret.

Is that the inFamous that currently gets 85% on metacritic? Something no 360 exclusive has managed for quite a while... so no wonder they need to keep implementing 'backyard compatability' on the 360.... not that this game has anything to do with this thread, still as you asked, so heres the latest figures from vgchartz...
