A fantastic price for this game! Zavvi have Star Ocean: The Last Hope (Xbox 360)for just £17.95 delivered. Next cheapest I can see is £32!!

Set during the aftermath of World War III, the fourth instalment in the role playing series moves further into the far reaches of space.

One of Japans most celebrated role playing series, Star Ocean combines the traditional elements of Japanese role playing games with a futuristic science fiction style. Star Ocean The Last Hope puts further emphasis on these science fiction elements as players explore deep space to discover the origins of the universe. Striking visuals are matched by dazzling pre-rendered cut scenes created by Visual Works, best known for their work on the Final Fantasy series.

Dropping a staple of Japanese role playing, Star Ocean The Last Hope forgoes typical turn-based battles, instead giving players a real-time combat system that allows all four members of a players party to remain active at one time. For the first time players can also command and control the Calnus spaceship during missions.

By focusing on its science fiction roots and giving players more control over their actions, Star Ocean The Last Hope provides a unique fantasy world that stands out from the Xbox 360s role playing line-up.

Release Date: 05 June 2009

Taken from wikipedia:

Famitsu awarded the game a total of 34/40, comprised of a 9/9/8/8 score.
Overall, the game was far better received than Square Enix's other next-gen console RPGs such as Infinite Undiscovery and The Last Remnant, both of which had mixed reviews from critics. IGN awarded the game a score of 8.0. In its review, IGN stated that despite the rough pacing in the storyline that could be told in a much more engaging manner, tri-Ace and Square-Enix's latest RPG holds together quite well with action-packed gameplay. Some of the small annoyances encountered during the game was the disc-swapping, which requires players to do just that if they need to travel to previous locations. The review also feels that the Japanese voice track should have been included as an option in the US version, as the English voice track and lip-synching are horrendous. X-Play gave The Last Hope 4 out of 5 stars, stating that the story is epic, engaging and well-paced from start to finish, and combat is frantic, complex and smooth. X-Play stated bad voice acting, and objectives that aren't always clear to lead the player, as the downsides of the game. TeamXbox awarded the game with a score of 8.5, praising the balanced and addictive combat which allows the player to handle both strategy and gaming skill to the fray. The Official Xbox Magazine gives a score of 8.5, citing the addictive mix of combat, quests and storyline as a plus, but criticizes the long stretch of cutscenes and a lack of save points around.

It also gets an average score of 76 at metacritic which isn't bad.

Thanks to the OP, will def pre order at that price!

great find, preordered and voted hot.

JRPG's arent for everyone but as far as the genre goes this game is supposed to be pretty good.
#18
The last couple of JRPG's, Infinate Undiscovery & The Last Remnant got pretty poor reviews and I absolutely loved both of them.

I pretty much ignore reviews for games and films these days. Its all down to personal taste. From what I have seen Star Ocean looks amazing, and I cant wait for it.

I got Resident Evil 4 days BEFORE release from zavvi - i think someone from Play.com is now heading it up so should be good!

Does anyone know if this game has multiple discs??
(Like Lost Odyssey's 4 discs that took up a lot of my hard drive space!)

Very Good in depth non biased video review of the game here - (Give it about 20secs to buffer then press the play button)

IBeing someone who's relatively new to the genre i completely agree.

It strikes me, reading reviews, that they dislike JRPGs because they are JRPGs. They don't like the fundamental game mechanics and thats why that genre gets consistent low scores by western game sites.

Its odd to say the least, like sending someone who's despises twitch gaming and hates FPS's to review Halo 3..:whistling:

I picked up Lost Odessy cheap last month and absolutely loved it, 4 Dvds and over 70 hours logged theres no comparison when it comes to value for money. Admittedly the random battles were annoying as hell but apart from that the general gameplay, story, gorgeous visuals and level of depth was great.

I suppose the plus side is that we're able to pick up these types of games cheap :-D

I can't believe a pre-order price would get this cheap do you think they'll repeat it for modern warfare 2 :)

amazing price ordered thanksssssssss!

I used to be a massive JRPG fan back in the SNES and Playstation 1 days, but after 30 or 40, you get to a stage where they do get pretty repetitive with levelling up, virtually identical stories and little innovation. I'm not suprised reviewers dont rate them as highly as they used to since there just isn't enough new, ground breaking content and game mechanics to warrant a 10 outta 10 for example. Having said that, if you like your manga and Japases style stuff, you can always add a few points to most typical review scores on these kinda games. Plus these make a great change from the now-typical Xbox 360 1st person shooter or sport game.

Anyway- Hot!

indeed they are, make up your own mind if they are biased or not..........

http://www.tawkn.com/?news_id=1809

of course the only reason these two incidents were discovered were due to the controller button icons displayed on the screen, so what other “mistakes” could there be that might have escaped detection due to lack of such clues.......

Still this is a great price for a new release, hope they do a similar thing for inFAMOUS later this month and Ghostbusters in June.
#35
great price but a word of warning. i ordered wheelman from zavvi and it took TWO weeks to arrive.

Do you have a PS3 as Valkyria Chronicles is a magnificent JRPG - and they didnt have to omit the japanese audio which really makes or breaks these games for me, got a 91/100 from gametrailers (87% on metacritic)

Thanks for the Heads up. Sounds good, although I dont own a PS3 at the moment. Will get one as soon as it has more than half a dozen exclusive games worth having. I think it has about 3 or 4 so far?
#39
Exact same price as the PSP version they have - so looks like a missprice. Awesome spot nonetheless. Ordered 2 :) Will flog one or get a friend to buy it off me. Was planning to get the game at some point when it was reduced but for £18 you cant go wrong

Is it right that this game contians three discs yet they were still unable to include Japanese audio?

The limits of using dvd media i guess, still its a great price IF they honour it.
