Space: the final frontier. These are the voyages of the Starship Enterprise...as you've never seen them before! "Star Trek: Countdown" is the official prequel to the smash-hit movie, outlining the history of Nero, the movie's villain (played by Eric Bana). Who is this mysterious Romulan, and how did he turn from hero to villain?

Also featuring Captain Picard and many of the Next Generation stars, this is essential reading for "Star Trek" fans! JJ Abrams, the film's director, along with scriptwriters Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman have supervised the script by Tim Jones and Mike Johnson, illustrated by David Messina ("Angel"), to make the ultimate prequel for the ultimate reimagining of "Star Trek".

SPOILER*******

NO SERIOUSLY************

I WARNED YOU********************

It's not a prequal because after it, all the events we know never happened, it establishes a new universe. In its universe it didn't happen before Next Gen, Voyager etc, They didn't happen AT ALL.

You can start reading again now ****************

Aka a cheating plot device to make a new cast a little sexier without having to tie it into the old universe.. but that's just the cynic in me :)

It's a pretty good comic - with many old favourites making an appearance - and since I'd read it before seeing the film it helped explain a lot about what was going on .

But it'll only take you 20 or so minutes to read (and you are unlikely to pore over for hidden details/meaning) so a few quid is about all it's worth.

What's Data doing on the front?

The new Star Trek film starts with the Next Generation - that's where Nero's ship came from, it went back in time to after the Enterprise (NX) era but before Pike's first run in the Constitution-class Enterprise.

Does it explain why......

**SPOILER ALERT**

**YES REALLY**

**I WON'T TELL YOU AGAIN**

**OK THEN**

Does it finally explain why Nero is such a total idiot that, after being thrown back through time, instead of first warning the Roumulans about what's coming, thus preventing it, he starts attacking the Federation, WHO WERE TRYING TO HELP HIM IN THE FUTURE!!!!!

As soon as Nero arrives in the past he begins hunting Spock down to exact revenge for Spock’s…trying to help his planet. :?:

If you have no problem with the above, Star Trek is the film for you. Hey, it's loud and it's got explosions an' stuff.

**spoilers**

He blames the Federation and Spock for Romulus being lost because they made a mess of saving it which is why he attacks the federation, the book makes a bit more sense though - in it Nero doesn't go straight back in time, instead he spends time upgrading his mining ship to have heavy weapons and develop his hate and wanting revenge against the federation/spock. hence when he goes back in time he starts blowing up everything. In the film though they made a mess of this as Nero goes straight back - there's no time for him to get his ship upgraded nor get worked up about it all. The book doesn't explain most of the other mistakes in the film though.

ok, last question.
Whats the difference between the version in this deal and the one pictured here?
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Star-Trek-Countdown-TPB-IDW/dp/1600104207/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1246371033&sr=8-2

They're both paperbacks but this one costs more, yet seems to have the same number of pages, anyone?

& Thanks John :)
