Quid cheaper than anywhere else

The re-telling of the beginnings of the USS Enterprise starts with J.J. Abrams (Lost, Mission: Impossible III)s vision of taking the series on a different direction by starting in an alternate reality, stopping fanboys from going nuts.

The son of a captain who was killed in action, James Kirk (Chris Pine) is an incredibly intelligent but unmotivated rebel who is challenged by his fathers comrade Christopher Pike (Bruce Greenwood) to become part of Starfleet like his father. The half-Vulcan, half-human Spock (Zachary Quinto) grew up under scrutiny by his peers from his bloodline, and after considering future after an emotional outburst, decides to become part of Starfleet. These two men will become friends, but not without an intense battle between the USS Enterprise and the Romulans, led by Nero (Eric Bana).

With an ensemble cast giving the characters a fresh start like McCoy (Karl Urban), Sulu (John Cho), Chekhov (Anton Yelchin), Uhura (Zoe Saldana). Simon Pegg is great comic relief as Scottie. With plenty of references to the TV series, as well as a very un-cheesy cameo by old Spock (Leonard Nimoy), this film has boosted the series to a higher, and more anticipated level for the sequel

The plot's logical absurdities were enough to do that.
