DVD Description

With HD DVD on one side of each disc and standard DVD on the other, the series has been remastered from the original camera negative. The 1960s special effects have been replaced with 21st century computer-generated imagery to give new depth and atmosphere to various elements including the main title sequence, the galaxy shots frequently seen from the Enterprises bridge, the battle scenes, planets and alien ships, some of the matte paintings used as backdrops for new worlds, as well as the Enterprise and other Starships, which have been replaced with CGI-created ships.

The new computer-generated Enterprise is based on the exact measurements of the original model (which now resides in the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C.). The original theme tune by Emmy Award-winning composer Alexander Courage has been re-recorded in digital stereo audio. A digitally remastered version of William Shatners classic original recording of the 38-word "Space, the final frontier" monologue continues to open each episode.

Bonus HD DVD features

Starfleet Access on-screen graphical interface allows viewers to access 'Picture in Picture' video commentaries, comparisons of remastered vs. original effects, encyclopedic information (science, life forms, technology), episode trivia and more on the following episodes:

:x...Working from home all day today, missed the bike from Tescos as had to pick something up from the Post Office (Fatal thought, "ah, I'll sort it when I get back...). Nothing else all day despite checking in regularly...Took the dog for a walk this evening, saw this when I came back, got the card out & I've missed another sodding bargain!! Great spot though, thrying to get my son into this, he was weaned on the TNG but give it time, give it time... H & R added though.:)

EDIT: Hmm, rep added, couldn't see an option for heat though despite being logged in

I watched this as a kid but I can’t imagine wanting to watch it now except in an ironic isn’t it so funny way, whereas NG seems contemporary. The generation gap sometimes is BIG.

You can’t add heat to an Expired deal.

So hot I could almost slingshot around it at high speed to go back to 1998.

This and Mission Impossible 3 set were my two most eager wait for's.
#17
So this is Blu-Ray on one side and standard DVD on the other? Neat.
#18
No its HD-DVD on one side (Now a dead format due to many studios and Toshiba removing their backing). and standard DVD on the other.

Not in mine either:thumbsup:

Given the demise of HD-DVD this will probably end up as a pretty good collectable for Star Trek fans if you can avoid removing the cellophane. Given its original sale price, I'd say that the value of these could be quite high a few years down the line so for £25 it's maybe worth a punt as an investment.

Perhaps even worth buying two:thinking:

I don't like the idea of the updated graphics, the original effects are all part of the charm of this classic series ....Amazon are selling it for the same price in unmolested form on standard DVD 0n 8 disks.

I know what you are saying (got the Laurel and Hardy box set and have never watched the colourised versions included!) and I won't know if I like it till I see it, but its only available in this set and I can watch the old ones on the TV as they seem to be repeated often (bizarrely on BBC2 at 2-3am Sunday morning at one point!). At this price its worth the gamble and there are plenty of extras included too. A good review that could help you make your mind up is available here

Just to inform everyone. I had the "order has been dispatched" email this morning :-D
