I didn't intend this to be a pun, but on reading it back - this is not the packaging I was looking for - is a bit close to the mark! I expected young Anakin & Luke in front of his domed house, but it looks like this Darth Vader fronted edition is the newer version.

It is CEX, so everything is preowned which I have put in the title, and the condition varies by item and store. I got lucky and found copies in "as new" condition. It is quite slim for 9 discs, roughly 2 normal bluray cases wide.

£25 seemed a good price so I bought instore.

Done a bit of searching for other prices:
Tesco - £40
Zavvi - £47.99 (older packaging)
Amazon - £38.99 (or £26 each for I-III, IV-VI)
HMV - £49.99

I'm allergic to incomplete boxsets

I've never owned a single copy of Star Wars, and I've pretty much given up on it as they never seem to release a version with the unbutchered originals.

I've got the old DVDs where they had the 1st special editions and the original films together. Not blu ray but interesting to see the difference. I also had the widescreen VHS set !

Yeah you are right, but the way Disney is going, I cannot see this ever being complete.

Only downside to this set is that it includes the prequel trilogy

For folks who want to get into SW will try to watch everything in its order.

I still havn't got round to watching the bluray boxset with the older packaging (Anakin as a little kid in the sand) and I wish 'd held off a touch only because the old packaging cover is pretty poor but the one with Darth Vader on the cover is so much better.
Decent price.

I think you mean "Dude" who has the laser disc set. I've never even seen a laser disc apart from on Classic Game Room but they look as cool as.

My and my mate bought some discs from a car boot sale called Capacitive Disc or something just because they were £1 a go still in the wrapping and Escape From New York looked good enough to put in a frame.

I downloaded the untouched original trilogy in a remastered version. Much better than the prequels and special editions. George Lucas is a financial **** !

I've got them on laserdisc too ! Both the original and the remastered box set. Ahh the good old days when the laserdisc player sat under the projector in my home cinema room rather than in my cupboard like now. ...Before the dark times ...before I got married :(

Where is that available to download and how much was it?

For info, all of the Star Wars movies including the Force Awakens are available on Sky Cinema on demand. This is a hot deal though if you don't have Sky or Now TV.

Hang on a minute..... so is there any way I can get a blu ray version of the original trilogy without all the special edition rubbish etc?

Nope!, there's various fan edits using material from multiple sources to recreate versions close to the original trilogy but the last official release was a previous DVD boxset of the trilogy which had bonus disc of the original films, though none of them were remastered (they were simply laser disc rips).

So, given I've got the laser disc boxset, are they the original films?

if so, excited I am.

your best shot at getting the trilogy as close to the original as possible is from harmy's despecialized versions, although regarding episode 4 there is another group who made a better more original version which harmy recommends to download.

Are the discs the same as the ones in the previous sand coloured box?

yes
