Same price at Amazon too - release date 30th September. I'd say there is a good chance this will sell out and be hard to get hold of at release.

I'm pleasantly surprised by the price - I thought they'd tried to wring a bit more out of people.

Anyhow, I plan to make a bucketful of popcorn, surround myself in take-away menus and fill the fridge with beer - lights down and volume up :-)

Posted at the same time. Ill expire mine and add heat to your post. I think it maybe the time to invest in a Blu Ray player if only to get these. Blockbuster had an offer on a few weeks ago but I cant remember what the deal was. I wonder if the supermarkets will do a deal on these? I expect so.

No probs - thanks! I was hoping no-one had posted before me, cause the search tool on HUKD doesn't seem to work at all.

i thought all the websites have had them at £33.99 each or £69.99 for the whole thing since they were listed late last year

I posted all three sets. I thought I was seeing double when I saw the screen. We must have been posting the deal at the same time so it wouldnt have shown anyhow.

Actually, it was your posting for the 6 disc set that made me look for the original 3. So it should probably have been me that expired my post, not you! Sorry! I still will if you want to repost it.

Most film is higher resolution than HD so most movies on film will benifit when converted to HD especially if remastered.

35mm film is about twice the resolution of HD. Most films if made well will look fantastic on current screens. Look up the Dambusters on blu [edit to point out even older films than 80s/90s have that quality]. The images are stunning. HD has a long way to go to match these old films in their original 35mm glory.

Rescan the film at a higher resolution. Like being able to blow up a photograph from a tiny negative.

I suppose these will be the ones with the redone effects, I saw a bit of them on itv recently and I thought it was a bit jarring having part new and part old. They should have just left it all as is.

If it's not the original, theatrical versions then I don't want to know.

In saying that, heat added as it's still a good bargain for those who don't mind the special edition versions over the originals.
#14
Erm, this is widely available to pre-order for this price and why would it 'sell out'?? It's not limited edition like some of the boxsets were.

I asked my lecturer about old films on HD other day and he echoed exactly wots been said here, 35mm is even better than HD so I shall be buying them. Only thing is when Super HD and other new formats come out I'll probably buy it again!

I'll just wait and put these on my Christmas list next year :)

Doesn't look like it'll be the Original films according to reviews, very very disappointing indeed...

Was thinking about Star Wars today funnily enough.....

I dunno but, are they definately NOT making an episode 7?? - i just think it would be a perfect time to do it before Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher and Mark Hammill get too old. I think with them being older too it would fit in with the timing of episode 7. I dunno, just tbhought it would be a good idea.

they've been this price for ages. I'll be buying them, but I'm not sure this is hot
#29
Hot! But I'll stick with my Star Wars DVDs. I heard George Lucas said after the release of the Limited Edition Original Trilogy Star Wars DVDs that he wanted to eliminate all copies of the original versions and in a few years only his 2004 editions would exist.

I was pleasantly surprised how good these films looks in HD, (STVHD). but reading the comments about 35mm and HD then that's why they look good. I guess I thought the same about old movies not looking that good, or even highlighting the graininess and all that. glad I am wrong.

Full HD is actually 2,073,600 pixels, good 35mm stock film is about 10 x the resoulution, well about 20million pixels, but like you say 35mm way better than HD we have in the UK.

Because the upscaled digitalised image from 35mm film is between 2 and 6 times higher than the resolution of a BluRay image resolution.

They're definitely not making it. There was a sequel trilogy planned WAAAAAAAYY back when Lucas was first writing the story but then he decided after the original trilogy was made that Star Wars (the films) would be Anakin's story. Plus there's like 30+(-ish) years of Extended Universe stuff it could possibly uncanonise. It's understandable to do stuff like that when it's just one book or one radio play or one comic book or whatever but 30 years worth is a hell of a lot.

I could have sworn that George said the original star wars would never be on Blu-ray!!

They won't be ... these are the tinkered with versions which were released at the cinema back in the late 90's to wet the appetite for the prequel trilogy which we so going to be let down by.

Well the last star trek movie basically did just that and threw all before it out of the window. They could do it with star wars too.
