Fairly good price for three films. I might well buy the Prequels because I have all of the originals on DVD already, but only one prequel (long story...).

Original Trilogy is a double disc affair - so theatrical edition and remastered.
Prequel, I guess, is the film and the extras?

Can't go wrong!

I know some people don't like the Prequels, but I frankly love Revenge of the Sith. At least they didn't resort to little childrens characters! Could have done with brutally killing Jar Jar though, agreed?

Remember and use Quidco too! Second time now... Almost 10% off DVDs, which is fantastic! If I use this next year, god knows how much I will save.

Bear in mind that the Original Trilogy DOES contain the Theatrical Editions (the grainy, imperfect versions from 1977,1980 and 1983) and the remastered editions. Hence 2 discs.

Presumably the Prequels have extras. Or have they too been remastered...

So you can get all of star wars for £20?
Seems like an awesome deal to me. :)
#2
god bless I was waiting for that deal several weeks!!!! was worth waiting around 15 elswhere!!!
#3
I am actually going to buy both. Got the boxset from 2004, but no original theatrical editions. At least if I have someone over and I say 'Let's watch 'The Empire Strikes Back' and they get upset when I suggest we watch the remastered version, at least I can say 'Huzzah! I have the originals!' Can't beat a bit of star wars!

I'd get these if it wasn't for the fact that the BluRays are coming. Then Extended BluRays. Then Remastered BluRays. Then Directors Cut BluRays. Then the Remastered Directors Cut BluRays.

It's never ending.

Well George Lucas said a while ago that he hopes that eventually the original theatrical versions of the original trilogy will "die out" and disappear and hopefully the George Lucas-ified crappy versions will be the only ones that exist in the end. So he won't be releasing a Directors Cut cos he's already done that

Got the films at HMV back in 2007 for £20 for the first 3 (3 for £20) and £21 for the Original Trilogy (£7 each). I didn't get the slimbox versions they have now. I got the films separately. Hot at this price.

Pretty good price. Ordered them as a christmas present for my brother in law. Voted HOT :)

The originals were an extra on a set a while back, in a nice tin. Not sure if they are still on these sets. He isn't an idiot, in that he is a savvy businessman, so the originals remastered and untouched will probably see blu one day. I won't buy the fiddled with versions unless they have the untouched originals with them. I doubt I'm alone, and Han did shoot first.

how come people hate the special editions of the older movies? I don't know much about them - what makes them so much worse than the theatrical versions?

Just rubbish added because they could do it. And the major thing being Han shoots Greedo outright, scoundrel that he is, and in the tweaked version Greedo shoots first and Han's head slides along his shoulders so he dodges it. Very badly done and ruins characterisation. George Lucas was the worst thing to happen to SW. Which is a sin as it was his idea. A bit like Spielberg removing the police officers guns digitally, for the kids.

Is it true that the boxset of the original films (non-remastered) has non-anamorphic widescreen, while the remastered boxset is anamorphic?

Yes. So the original versions of the films are basically the same quality as the laserdisc set released in the 90s.

I did hear something about a fan acquiring original 35mm prints of Star Wars and Empire, on the originaltrilogy forums. There was much debate about how to digitise them into 1080p, but I have no idea what happened to that plan. He deleted ALL his posts concerning the prints, but I hope it surfaces one day.

I'm not a Star Wars fan, but damn you George Lucas!

Damn I just ordered this for my nephew for 15 at play, too late to cancel! Good deal.

Bit of nerdage I discovered this week. The character was played by John Ratzenberger if anyone was wondering.

ordered.... thanks nice find
#26
dammit... ordered when they were on here for 14quid from hmv. And i haven't even watched then yet!

I've got the remastered ones, will wait until the Ultimate Deluxe 3D Bluray Extended Directors Cut Tin

Star Wars = good films, but the most repackaged/rereleased in history
#28
At the end of the day, you can get these films at a great price (which are upscaled to HD if you are using a PS3/Bluray player) now, or wait 589 years for the 'definitive, ultimate, deluxe, George Lucas-signed' edition.
#29
Well at the end of the day, the question must be "are these good value at £10 each?", to which surely most people would have to say yes.

I love all of the films including the prequels (yes I'm the one who likes the prequels!).
Hot deal.
#30
Yeah, I completely agree with you. I already have the originals on DVD, but I don't have the original editions, nor do I have episodes 1 and 2 on DVD. So a win-win for me! Quite enjoyed Episodes 1 and 2, which does go against general opinion.
#31
Superb deal bought both
#32
Very happy to have provided this deal for everyone.

Got to watch these films how they were originally made. And I don't own Episodes 1 and 2 on DVD, for some reason.
#33
check out star wars revisited. it's the SE of Ep. IV with tweeks.

eg/ a blue LS is now green and vader's red LS is pink....... thanks george! so they've been put back to their original colours. there are many many many many other adjustments. including added CGI to the death star battle that's also been re-edited.

Click here for the list of "fixes" made

Have watched this a few times now. can't wait for SW-ESB revisited

This needs to happen and that way George Lucas will lose his evil grip on the planet's 30 something year olds. I would love to see the original prints in HD and I'm not even a big Star Wars fan. The special editions were bad even when they were released and ironically today, the added CGI has aged worse than the original SFX. Nice one George!
#35
Tempted by these, but trying to hold off until the boxset's come out on blu next year!
What to do :p
#36
Fantastic price, and although I've seen them 100's of times, well 4-6 anyway, I still enjoy them, and now so does my son which is great considering the age of these films.I can still remember lining up outside the Odeon at the top of Watford High St (long since gone) back in 1977 was it? to watch it for the first time, and was totally amazed.I too don't care much for the added CGI stuff, but appreciate the excellent surround sound they have.I also found it very hard to enjoy the prequels, I guess you needed to have read the books perhaps, but did enjoy Revenge of the Sith.

Clearing the decks for the uber-blu ray set next year. ;) Lets hope George finally changes 'Obi Wan once thought at you do' to 'Your mother once thought as you do' for accuracy's sake.
#38
All the talk of multiple blu rays is wrong - there will be between 2 and 3 and then it'll be onto whatever physical / non-physical format is doing the rounds :p
#39
Thanks, I've been holding out for a good price on these.
#40
Star Wars 3D FTW!

These are a great price. Wouldn't buy Eps 1, 2 and 3 if they were a fiver though.
