    Nobody knows.
    It took him until 2004 to sanction a DVD release of the films, so he's a little slow on the uptake at times.

    He's a bit temperamental at times. In 2005 he stated he was going to convert all six films to 3D (using some "new technology" to do the conversion) starting with a release of either episode I or episode IV in 2007. When 2007 came, he changed his mind saying Lucasfilm is too busy with a Star Wars live action TV series and Indiana Jones, and indefinitely postponed the 3D releases.
    Draw your own conclusions from this. To me, there are three choices;
    1. He's telling the truth.
    2. He doesn't think he'll make enough money to offset the cost of doing it.
    3. His "new technology" doesn't work properly.

    From ]Wikipedia;
    Singh, spokesperson for Lucasfilm, has denied there are any plans. He was quoted as saying "Lucasfilm Ltd. has no plans to release any of the Star Wars movies on Blu-ray.

    I too got both trilogies from Asda for £12, watched episodes 1 - 3 this week in my hotel room. Episode 3 Return of the Sith was fantastic!

    Yes they will come to blu-ray. There's a simple reason for the delay. Maximising money.

    With the DVD release lucasfilm got every last penny they could from the VHS format and waited until nearly every house had a DVD player. That maximised the numbers paying full dollar for the DVD versions. If they were released too early then the late DVD adopters would buy at the reduced DVD price (as you know DVD releases drop in price over time).

    Same with blu-ray. Now blu-ray is the HD format, Lucas film will wait until every house has a player (it's not at that stage yet). No good releasing quickly. I'd imagine lucasfilm have many plans up their sleeve. Hopefully they will try to top the LOTRs packages and do something very special.

    Lucas has always been good with money. It's what allows him to make the movies he wants to. A lot of people might not have liked the prequel trilogy but you can't deny he did it his way!

    Let's hope the money he will make from the blu-rays helps to fund a fantastic live action TV show! :w00t:
