Yes, 2 & 3 are total howlers. I watched no 3 a few days ago and vowed that it would be the one and only time I ever watched it.

To me, the problem with the follow ups was that they missed the humour of the first one

Got this set free from CD-Wow and that was still too much for the pile of steaming rubbish that is the two sequels. First is great though!

You get three films, hence "Trilogy".

First one was very good, 2nd terrible and the 3rd is enjoyable if you've lost all expectations after watching 2! lol

Saying that though 3 BD's for under a tenner is a bargain and this is a hot uk deal for sure!

Well the first film had the fun bit, the introducing of the characters and it's way easier to build a film on top of this as it feels fresher and more like a journey for the viewer. Plus the story flowed fast in the first film and the narrative was air tight with some great scenes.

Seems like by the time they got to the second film nobody really knew where to take the story. They kind of covered everything in the first film!....love story, mass tragedy, great (high budget) action scenes, good self-contained story, good bit of humour, the atmosphere was captured perfectly, and by the end you ended up knowing everything you need to know about the Starship Troopers world really.

Or get it free plus a £5 voucher from CD WOW! Oh I loved that deal....

I agree:

1st one: Great film.
2nd one: Sweat Jesus! I thought it was a misplaced disc, ejected it after 10 mins as it was offending me and the PS3. Looked like it had been filmed on a Doctor Who set from the 70s, people were "acting" like a first read-through of the script, effects were diabolical, budget must have been $100. <<<<---- more whinges but it turned me to medication, so I must relax *breathes* lol.
3rd one: Passable, more of an attempt to recapture some of the originals humour. Still no where near as bad the 10 mins I saw of the second one and still light years from the first.

Of course, I have no real opinion on the matter :)

For those who don't want to buy it online Gamestation have it in store for £45

Haven't got round to watching 2 & 3, but judging by the comments probably not worth it, but it was free from CD-WOW so I might risk it.

Its showing £46 now. Guess I missed it.

Paul Verhoeven is an intelligent director and intended his original film as a parody of fascism -now really VERY timely (Troopers vs. any US 'enemy'). A theme he's followed with Robocop and Total Recall and way before, some original very well made low budget WW2 films. Also a brilliant 80's horror film worthy of Argento in cinematography and premise, called The Fourth Man (Die Vierde Man)

I did the same - 10 minutes and that was it. Did anyone else notice that one of the actor was the captain of one of the ships in the first? She died in the first too :w00t:
