Heat from me. Decent, lasting shoes at a good price. Paid £34 for a similar design in August.
No idea why they're being voted so cold. These will always outlast any pair of Clarks shoes. One term in and daughters are looking brand new. Last year my sons Clarks shoes were dead by Christmas

these are lovely however, if your child cannot do their own shoes its a nightmare as I have found out! we have not had buckle shoes before and wont again she is always the last to get her shoes on or off and then still needs help as doesn tighten them enough we got rid and have Velcro!

I'd highly recommend a visit to a Gordon Scott's (other good shoe shops available) or similar to have your child measured using a Startrite gauge.
Can't really compare to any other manufacturer as styles vary. As far as I'm aware, Startrite "generally" have a wider range of width fittings than Clarke's. I know that isn't an answer to your question tho.
Gordon Scott's will measure, try different styles, sizes, widths, insoles, chiropody foam (sticky back felt) and using the secret "up a size-down a width" trick which sometimes works miracles to get a good fit, should be able to tell which you child walks best in.
Edit.... Just noticed they were "first" shoes,... Definitely get them fitted if you don't know what your doing yourself. Don't get me wrong, I'm not messed up cos my mom didn't get fitted shoes for me, but I am aware of how I walk, and I probably go through more footwear as a result.

I've had my daughter sized at Clarks reading reviews they come up bigger so I've ordered size down but also her size too with free returns I thought was worth it
TOTALLY agree with the above! A few years ago, Which? did a test where they sent people round different shoe shops, including Clarks and Startrite, to see who did a good job of measuring the child's feet, choosing the correct size and width of shoe, etc. Their result was that the Startrite staff were the worst at shoe fitting! Which? recommended that you choose and fit the shoes yourself if you were going for Startrite. I definitely think the best thing is to go to an independent quality shoe shop and have the child's feet measured including width, and have several different sizes/widths tried on for size.
Agree about the importance of visiting a reputable independent shop to get the kids feet measured, but not sure what you mean about Start-rite staff being the worst at fitting, they don't have their own stores?

It was some years ago, it was staff working for Start-rite.

Did not know that.

Also worth a look at getting fitted at Jhon Lewis's as I remember them having pretty good training also with Startrite.

I would choose startrite over clarkes every time. I've found them to be bigger though so a half size smaller might be best.
I think Startrite shoes are much better than Clarks. Do be careful with the sizes as they do not come in at same size as Clarks! Not sure about 'pre-walkers' though. I never put my kids in shoes until they were properly walking - that was the advice from Clarks.
Good price brand new, I tend to buy used off eBay as can usually get them for £6 including postage. The Startrite shoes look and feel in no way inferior to the standard Clark's shoes you get for kids but until I had my first little man had never heard of the brand

So many lovely little shoes! Does anyone know if children tend to stay the same width fitting if you are buying bigger sizes?

My kids feet tend to go 10f then 10g then 10.5f, for example, just depends.
But 10g can wear 10.5f.

Thanks xx

If you live in East Anglia, it's worth popping to factory shop if you ever go to Norwich. It's brilliant for kids shoes. It's on the Postwick industrial site.
