Assetto Corsa features an advanced DirectX 11 graphics engine that recreates an immersive environment, dynamic lighthing and realistic materials and surfaces. The advanced physics engine is being designed to provide a very realistic driving experience, including features and aspects of real cars, never seen on any other racing simulator such as tyre flat spots, heat cycles including graining and blistering, very advanced aerodynamic simulation with active movable aerodynamics parts controlled in real time by telemetry input channels, hybrid systems with kers and energy recovery simulation. Extremely detailed with single player and multiplayer options, exclusive licensed cars reproduced with the best accuracy possible, thanks to the official cooperation of Car Manufacturers.
ASSETTO CORSA has been developed at the KUNOS Simulazioni R&D office, located just inside the international racing circuit of Vallelunga, allowing the team to develop the game with the cooperation of real world racing drivers and racing teams.

Took a risk for you. It'd probably be a 1000 degrees now had I left the 'VR Supported' bit out :D

The game is ace but to get the best out of it you need the wheel.
I played this with a pad and was terrible, like worse than dirt rally.
I tried with a wheel, which I sold cause I'm useless with them as well.

I don't think we can use DiRT Rally as a benchmark for anybody's driving skills...EVER. Who isn't terrible at that? :D

Yeah, it's definitely the driving game for this year. I'd be tempted by Project CARS 2, but as much as I loved the first, the lack of depth in the career mode was disappointing.

We've just been too spoilt by the early Gran Turismo games :D

That's another 2 driving games currently on the wish list.

I loved The Crew bought the season pass for cars and then the wild run but stopped at police update. I've now got Forza 3 which is similar to the Crew but can't really get on with Dirt / project cars. I drive 40k a year so I don't want a steering wheel prefer the pad. How does Corsa stack up?

Full on Sim, with the pad it felt like all driving aid's had been turned off like ABS and everything.
No doubt someone will say it's easy with the pad but that was my feeling with it.

Ya know how Gran Turismo calls itself the 'Real Driving Simulator'?

Well Assetto Corsa actually lives up to that claim. It's not a great 'game' if you want a campaign and a sense of career progression and all that stuff, but holy hell does it nail the driving aspect. The AI is also highly competent, so you can actually challenge yourself against it unlike something like Gran Turismo. It does have its share of annoying quirks, though.

If you have a wheel and like sim racing, it's an absolute must-own, no question about it.

If you have a controller and are only mildly interested in sim racing, it might be worth a look at this price, but there's a chance you wont get along with it without something 'more'.

I was just missing the Porsche Dream Pack from my DLC and that was only £6.45 for all three packs!

For those new to the game and like online play then these two mods are worth getting:
http://www.simracingsystem.com (scheduled racing)
http://www.radiators-champ.com/RSRLiveTiming/ (online hotlap leaderboard)

Assetto Corsa is amazing as a simulator and one of the best VR experiences there is, expect a fairly steep learning curve because of this and not so much of a player friendly experience like GT/Forza, if you don't have a wheel or are not planning to get one I would not recommend this game. Be sure to get it with the dream packs as well if you want to play online as the DLC content is used often. Don't play on minorating servers to start with as you'll ruin your safety rating, however this is a good place to go once you can race clean and it restricts the crash happy from being among you.

Love this game! Play it all the time online and bought loads of Amazing SIM racing hardware. No turning back! Great fun.
