Shame i work over the weekends
#2
Shame it's such an overhyped game ...
#3
Going to sample this if I can free up enough diskspace. The mrs is going to go spare! I hate these freeplay weekends as it invariably means I will buy the game if its good ( I did with left for dead)
#4
shame BFBC2 is much better
#5
Not sure if I am being really dense or what, but when I click the install link, it just opens the game's page in the Steam Store and I can't find where to click to get the preload of the free game.

EDIT: I found another link that works for me: steam://install/10190

Do you actually have the Steam client installed on the PC you're trying to preload on?

If this is the first time you've used Steam then you need to install the client first...

Thanks for the help Cuddy. I do have Steam and have plenty of games on it, just this one wouldn't work, but I found another install link that works: steam://install/10190

The other link seemed to want to make me buy the game rather than let me pre-load the free trial.

So it's all good now thanks.
#8
would you think the dlc will be free over this weekend? if so for all users?
#9
indeed a nice game, much better than MW1.
#10
Yeah, no dedicated servers is such a joke but for free I will try it out.
#11
dcx_badass
No way, most think MW1 is better. Anyway enjoy the game, lobby closed message after every other round guys.

IS it really though? MW1 seems so outdated when I play MW2.
#12
Another free weekend? IW must be getting desperate.

Also heads up, everyone. Like the previous free weekend it'll be overrun with constant hackers making new accounts everytime they get banned. Also lack of dedicated servers means they're more or less allowed to run rampant without any sort of active moderation.
#13
For multiplayer, I would say

1) Bad Company 2
2) Cod 4
3) MW2

A free weekend isnt to be sniffed at, have some HEAT!

I have never seen this before? I have steam and know wits use. What is a free weekend? Is it just MW2 for free?

So do you mean that it is left to the users PCs host the mutliplayer games? *yuk*

Yeah from time to time they allow you to play a (often recently released ) game for free to entice you to buy it. You can start downloading it now, so its ready to go when they enable it, otherwise it will take ages to download if you leave it until the weekend!
#16
Bah, probably means it will be on weekend deal as well with 10% off.
#17
Decent single player game, ok Multiplayer game if you like it console style. Overall not a patch on CoD4.

Still free is free, heat added.

Except, with all the woes of MW2 and no dedicated servers, at least it works! There's a 170 page post on the BFBC2 forums about the fact that people (me included) can't connect to a multiplayer server. Do a search :x

What Steam should do instead of free weekends where everyone plays for free at once, is to give people a free 48 hour pass that they can use any time they like. This would avoid the simultaneous influx of hackers. Also it would be better for people who are working or have plans. Furthermore, you wouldn't have to worry about desperately trying to pre-load the game before the free period starts.

Yup, well its done automatically, not like someone makes a server, but you have no control over it and you get lots of lag or inbetween maps it just drops the connection and boots you to the menu. And if the person hosting leaves then there's about a 30-60 second wait whilst it switches someone else to the host. Very annoying.
Also the person hosting the game gets an incredibly low ping. All around suckfest really. A huge step back in PC gaming terms. It's purely for profit reasons too. They want you to buy their expensive DLC instead of playing free third-party maps as you can with most other FPSs.

The last free weekend a few weeks ago was a complete b***s up. I first downloaded a 4GB pre download which didn't include English files of some sort so, you then had to download the whole game approx 11GB, which I couldn't do because Steam couldn't cope with the amount of people wanting to download. And so the weekend ran out before a lot of folks could play.

If Steam has learned their lesson give it a go, and its hot.

But don't hold your breath, especially after last nights fiasco with the DLC and updates on Steam:x

started to preload but 11GB in size....so stopped it
#22
wis my pc could play it :(

I have this on pc, could I lend somebody my disks to install it? Instead of having to download it? (On our connection it'd take days of solid downloading to download 11GB)
Also, is this the full game? Both multiplayer and singleplayer?
#25
do you normally have to pay to play online on pc?

I think he's asking if there is a subscription, like Xbox Live.

The answer is no, you just pay for the game.

Seems to be downloading fine: I am about half way there now with another 4-5 hours to go. I expect it will get busier later.

The free weekend is just for multiplayer, but if you buy the game on Steam you get the single player too.
#31
I never had a problem with the pre download. It's when it goes live and the download site or mirrors couldn't cope.

Not sure if the SP is included as the boxed version recommends 16GB of free space.
#32
Anyone know if it will work ona 2.3ghz core2duo with 3gb ram and x1950 pro 512mb gddr3 on win 7 ?

Does multiplayer include Special-Ops?

agreed, i like battefield 2, day of defeat and counterstrike - despite the ages of some...my favourite single player games are arma2, battefield 2 and rainbow 6 vegas 2 (actually on xbox its still good, though easier with auto aiming lol!)

Your graphics card looks heads and tails above mine and I'm giving it a shot:thumbsup: (i play COD4 quite easily and it uses an almost identical engine). Go for it, free this weekend, so nothing lost either way :whistling:
