Working in IT and Telecom doesn't give you an edge on tech. Seems there are a lot of people in this thread that don't work in the industry that are doing just fine.

Sounds like the issue resides between the keyboard and chair.

Bought this about a year ago. About 3 months ago i gave up and bought an xbox for the living room instead.
When it works it's awesome - I'm using cat 5e cable, vm 200mb, i5 gtx970 - but some days i would switch it on and i'd be making several trips up and down stairs for about an hour before i could actually play a game.
The main problems came from when things needed updates and you had to go onto the main pc to sort the issues out.
Other niggles were not being able to play origin games. I managed to get gta v and witcher 3 to work - but theyd be a hugh jarce when there were software updates.
I also wanted to love the controller, but when i switched my xbox one s on for the first time, i knew then i'd been lying to myself and the steam controller was a horrible horrible thing.

think about your Quads man... all that stair work pays dividends in the bed room!!!

Nope. Most wired controllers work with it (Xbox, PS) and the Bluetooth controllers (Ps4, WiiU pro) work too

This is an incredible deal. Definitely worth the money.

Full PS4 controller support is coming too (it works now but using steam controller configs).

As mentioned in that deal, you can also get the Link and the Steam Controller in a bundle for a nice 51% off HERE or just the Steam Controller for 30% off HERE

So good I'm almost tempted to buy another one even though I would have no use for it whatsoever! X)

So it streams games from pc to a tv? Is it mirroring if so surely there would be some lag?

There can be but it adjusts graphical/streaming quality on the fly to minimise it. Ideally it needs to be hooked up via gigabit ethernet and not peasant tier wifi

I'm wary because I have an utterly useless OnLive Controller sitting in my drawer (the one that doesn't connect to anything anymore) but this is Steam the biggest gaming DRM platform in existence and well it has to last quite a few years I would think.

Will use this for single player games as I doubt it will work well with online MP shooters.
Had some Steam credit purchased from CDKeys with 25% Quidco deal. Nice timing! HOT!

Thats pretty much been my experience as well. I once had it working flawlessly and every time since then something has caused an issue with it to the point I've given up on it. If a game needs you to make a selection at the start (Metro 2033 Redux, Civ 5 or Age of Wonders 3 for some examples) then that simply isn't carried over to the Steam Link meaning you have to access the PC to even launch the game. I'd save the 23.99 and not bother personally.

Still, it's a good price and you'd probably sell it for more than you bought it for once you decide its a complete nause to use and give up on it.

You can stream your entire desktop to the steam link in those situations no?

so how do these work, do i need to lunch the game on my pc? to then play it on my tv or can someone be playing another game on my pc while i play something else?

assume not that great for online shooter games due to lag?

wondering if amazon would price match, those postage costs are a bit high xD
#24
Its when something requires admin permission you can't control it through the steam link.

Not the biggest ball ache and gaming offline has been decent enough for me over homeplugs.

Not being able to play Battlefield is another slight down but I'd rather play it at my desk anyway with a mouse. Steam link is better for single player pad games imo.

If your computer has 'Wake from Lan', you can boot the computer using the steam link.
Games can be launched through the steam link & you can access the desktop mode to run other software
The steam link also acts as a controller link (various console or USB joypad, keyboard & mouse, etc.)
Its strongly recommended you use Powerline adapters for a wired connections over Wifi, as Wi-Fi can cause stutters.
Its a remote link, the PC is not usable by another person while you use the steam link.

Fantastic deal. I bought one second hand a month ago for £30. Works very well for the money.

Apparently it supports XBox 360 Wireless controllers with the Windows adaptor:
"Supports Steam Controller (sold separately,) Xbox One or 360 Wired Controller, Xbox 360 Wireless Controller for Windows, Logitech Wireless Gamepad F710, or keyboard and mouse "
Adaptor is from around £7.50 on ebay:

Yes teamviewer (and other remote desktop style apps) work great from your phone/tablet to simply click whatever prompt is on your PC without getting up or going to it.

That Amazon link shows that the seller is called "BreKoo", but it is fulfilled by Amazon. However, surely £23 plus whatever shipping could possibly be is still cheaper than that for £60?

Yes, it has 3 USB ports and you can always use a hub with it if you need more.

This works fine. You can use that receiver to connect up to 4 wireless xbox 360 controllers to the single usb port, which is nice. It actually works with 3 controllers fine, and the fourth requires some initial faffing. Google will help if that's what you want to do 8)
