Please don't buy Assassins Creed 2 though - it has the Ubisoft "always on" DRM - which requires you to be permanently connected to the internet to play.

All in all, a bit underwhelming today - AvP is worth it for the cash, if only for the great marines campaign.

Just Cause 2 is a very underatted game, mainly I feel because the 1st was so dire.

Cracking game though, well worth £5.
#3
Those deals are pretty poor I think (unlike the last ones). Almost all games have been similarly priced or cheaper as a retail version, or have already been cheaper before. The only game that might be worth buying is Trials 2.

I don't have Bully in my Rockstar games. (never buy the pack, just separately)
And COD4 too, but i have just MW2 on Steam. and expensive i think.
(I had already Tales of MI Complete pack, and it's awesome, but i believe i paid cheaper)

Somebody know a system like Appshoper but for Steam, to see price history of each game ?
#7
LOL @ minus 12 so far - cold voters care to share cheaper prices please?
#8
Good deal..
#9
Hot! Ignore the haterz voting cold.

Get AvP and Just Cause 2 for £9... these are top games! Many hours of gameplay for the price of a couple of beers... sold.
#10
looking at the indie game packs, the fright pack looks good for £3.99
#11
Prices seem fair enough to me , Only Day of Defeat for me , For the simple
reason that i have a few of them and the ones i dont want are not up my street , Not that there bad games

I would've bought Assassin's Creed 2 - especially since I own Assassin's Creed on Steam so could get it for £8, but my internet connection is rubbish. I want AC2, but there's just no point in me buying it so they'll continue to lose sales while they continue to have this stupid DRM. Same with Splinter Cell Conviction. The most stupid thing is... they'll use piracy as the reason for poor sales, not the fact they have ridiculous DRM.

I don't pirate games, but if I did, I wouldn't feel guilty about downloading Ubisoft's games with this DRM in place. Pirates should never get a better deal than paying customers!

Just Cause 2 is by far the best deal of today. Everyone should buy that. The grappling hook is a work of genius and worth the price alone.

Was tempted by Bully: Scholarship Edition at £6.49 yesterday, but so glad I didn't buy it.
Picked up from Steam today for £2.50.
Not particularly interested in anything else today. Picked up the PoP trilogy yesterday.

Got Bully, AvP and Just Cause 2.

Hard to beat just for over a tenner. Still another 11 days to go of deals on Steam :D
#20
Trials 2 for me. Hot.

just looked now and they seem to have added spore(£7.50), but it doesn't have it's own 'catalog page'.
#23
Played bully on the ps2 and just cause 2 on the pc, both excellent games for mentioned systems although reading reviews it seems bully is a poor port for the pc and best played with an xbox 360 controller.

Was about to add this to the thread ..... Spore was there all along, but as you pointed out, for some reason it wasn't given its own catalog page so most people may have missed it.

Recettear - An Item Shop’s Tale for £4.22 !!!! At least try the demo

Well, paid for Railworks 2, Steam took the money, the javascript crashed, now I have no game - but Steam took the money.
Monday I bought "Shattered Union" - doesn't work and have waited 48 hours - STILL no reply
None too impressed with Steam so far.
Add:- Railworks appeared at last, can't download at present Styeams servers busy. Don't mind that, but would like advice to get Shattered Union working though.

Write a support ticket via your account on the steam website, they will get back to you eventually, it took them 4 or 5 days to get back to me and get my steam account working again when I'd forgot my password and all other methods failed to recover it.

hi all,

about to buy just cause 2. But ive noticed its a games for windows game when bought in a store. I like signing in and stuff so I can get achievements for my xbox live and chat to my xbox live friends. If i buy this from steam, will I still be able to get achievements and stuff?

Thanks,

Tim

Hey Tim,

Afraid this is only a bog standard Games for Windows title and not a Games for Windows LIVE title. A bit confusing, I know. Unfortunately only the LIVE titles have achievements, which sucks because there aren't really that many about. For a full list of PC games with achievements, have a look at this link: PC Games

ah, thank you very much. Reviews say its good so I think I'll get it anyway. But thanks for clarifying that. Can't believe theres a difference between Games for Windows and Games for Windows Live!
#32
This is what PC gamming has come to, its like iphone, ipad you have to virtually give the games away due to piracy.

Already have Just Cause 2 and it's a great sandbox game. I have gone for Bully and Railworks 2. I know it's Zzzzz for most but for £4.50 it's worth a punt.
#35
Come on, it's not due to piracy, especially with Steam being the best form of DRM there is. It's unintrusive to the point where a lot of people don't even consider it DRM, it's just a shame when some companies insist on adding another layer of their own to games on Steam, but that's usually clearly marked on the page.

In short, it's DRM but it's DRM done right, and the reason things are cheap is the same reason HMV stores have sales on, most entertainment products sell well for maybe a month after release then fade to almost nothing, a well publicised price cuts brings in far more money than trying to sell at full price.

As for the sale, Just Cause 2 is excellent, tho I'd recommend a 360 pad, mouse and keybord isn't always better! Trying driving and fighting games on a pad is painful :)

Recettear is an interesting twist on the dungeon diving RPG subgenre, where you run an item shop and sell stuff to adventurers, and then hire those adventurers to get more loot to sell, taking control of them in Zelda style dungeons.

From what I've read COD MW1 is the best of the CODs, I'd buy it, but I've only got about £20 spare for the next week, so being extra careful about what I buy in the dailies.

There are Steam achievements (the retail version requires Steam too), but no Games for Windows Live achievements, as it's not a GFWL game.

I dont like steam at all its anotehr overhead on your system. Plus I got supreme commander 2 all be it for a great price £2.49 but it doesnt work on my stock windows 7 system. Even with decent knowledge and a load of messing I couldnt get it working. What a waste of time this is why people buy an xbox / ps3.
