Meh. This is available from Play and Zavvi for £18 minus what ever you can sell it for when you're bored of it.
#6
Same price at Game too :-)
#7
Absolutely stonking game on the PC. One of the best ever.

Whats the best way to play a PC game like this? I'm a seasoned console gamer, but now have a PC capable of playing games (built one for Blu-Ray and some gaming). However apart from Grand Prix 3 / Grand Prix 4 I have not played a PC racing game. Back then I used some awful Microsoft game controller, and at times may have used a keyboard. Are there any good controls around?

Cheers

Controller support is dependant on the game, as this is just a plain car racing game I'd imagine the best controller is a wheel and pedals (possibly with TrackIR for the camera if you get on with it).

But as it appears to have good PC support I'd imagine virtually anything will work, although some controllers will be more appropriate than others!

g27 wheel, 3 x 30inch Eyefinity Monitors and one of those racing chairs that move about

that would be the best way to play a PC game like this

Play - £24.99
Zavvi - £17.95 but no stock. I ordered it from zavvi last month and the estimated dispatch date was 11/02/10!

Hot deal.

Must of looked at the Xbox price by mistake. Okay, so a good price just now, I suppose.

I'm waiting for it to hit bargain basement anyhow.

Steam do some great deals, I just don't think this is anything special.

TrackIR sounds fantastic

It seems good but when moving the head he seems to have to keep his eyes pointed at the screen - this would not be natural for me would take a bit of getting used to.

Have a look at the video link I posted here for better uses for TrackIR. Uses the same technology that part fo the forthcoming PS3 wand system uses.

Looks like there is a PC version of the wand coming out by Razor too

Sure but if you're not looking at the screen then there would be no point in moving your head to gain the extra level of immersion the TrackIR would give you.

Example, as shown in Dslyecxi's video in Arma-II he can look in a different direction to where he is moving/flying. If you are not looking at the screen to be able to see that different direction to your movement then you might as well not be using this device :)

You are correct in that it's not as natural as real life, since you would most likely rotate your head (and your eyes would follow) to look to the side when you're moving. However, until they add the ability to move your monitor along with your head movements then you're going to have to keep your eyes in roughly the same position.

You can adjust how sensitive the TrackIR is so that it's less un-natural. For example, you can set it so that 10degrees of your head movement translates to 30degrees of in game head movement.

It's either that or go for a multimonitor setup where two side monitors would show the wider field of view but that would be more expensive, to purchase and to run

Don't think it'll be in the bargain basement for a long while, if you can find anywhere that sells it it'll be £24.99. I have still not seen it in a Game/Gamestation store for sale yet.

I've wanted this since it came out but play never had any in stock on release and has taken till this week for stock again, the same goes for zavii @ £17.99.
Zavii was showing out of stock for a long time but has recently gone back in stock, but as their delivery is so slow and the stock checker is frequently wrong i'll be getting mine off steam.

I know for another £3 I can have a hard copy, but I just want it now and don't want to mess about with Zavii.

And of course there are plenty of other unusual peripherals, I got a Novint Falcon for Christmas (which is lots of fun) but neither the various 3d glasses from people like IZ3D and Nvidia nor the 3rd Space gaming vest appeal to me.

Got a free copy with my XFX 5850 XXX Edition card on Friday. Looking forward to playing it.

Bought mine at The Hut free delivery. Hope the link works......http://www.thehut.com/games/platforms/pc/colin-mcrae-dirt-2/10048197.html

I think that it will, given that it's the staple game being chucked out with the new ATI graphcs cards, it being the DX11 flagship-game, means plenty will be around with lower prices - especially used ones(see: Far Cry 2 and H.A.W.X).
