Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising is a game about a fictitious conflict on one of the Sakhalin islands, a conflict that is in danger of erupting onto a global scale. The player takes the role of a US soldier, part of the allied force fighting against outnumbering Chinese forces vying for control of the island. The game centres on a campaign narrative that gives the player a variety of roles in the allied forces ranging from a Marine Infantry, tank commander, Special Forces and helicopter captain. The game has an incredible realistic depiction of war with careful attention to the detail of the weapons, equipment and tactics of the armed forces. The action is varied from intense fire fights through to slower pace tactical decision making on how to best tackle the mission objectives.

Obviously anyone buying from Steam won't be able to sell it on afterwards. If people are ok with that, then this is a hot deal!

Edit: Is the game any good though?!

nice one..ordered

Should be getting a copy free with my ridiculous AMBX lights, no idea if i'll actually play it though.
#5
Good price, awful game :(
#6
Its not that bad! but anyway at this price you can try without cursing too much if you dont like it :)

Also I really dont get people that complain about steam as all games are available elsewhere I have have never been forced to buy a game from steam so I assume no one else has?

No Ubisoft are bad operators! Steam is one of the good guys

There is nothing wrong with Steam if you have an issue with the service don't use it.

The game itself? well I've been waiting for it to come down in price due to the mixed reviews. £5.49 is well worth the punt, whats that? if i'm lucky a couple of pints of beer on a night out =).. Voted hot.

Apart from the fact you cant sell the game on if bought through Steam can you specify why you feel they are bad operators?

In my experience they are great - worth going with them just to make sure your games are always patched automatically.

how much do you really think you could get for a £5 game even if you could sell it????

If you want to resell buy the retail version and add it to steam (but you will pay more)
#11
Worth it for the price

Definatly an FPS thats better on pc than Console HOT
#12
Game is a bit too easy even on hardest difficulty. And the graphics aren't great. And it is too short.

But at this price it may be worth it if you like this kind of game.

No, do not do this. Once you have registered the game to Steam you cannot un-register it therefore you cannot sell it on. Research a bit more next time mate :)

Indeed, it is much better on PC however the control system especially for commands is a little "console"-ified. Forget it is called Operation Flashpoint and you might be surprised by how much you enjoy it.

Dont buy it if you intend playing it online like i did as NOBODY is ever online. Maybe this price drop may get a few playing but i doubt it as most chose ARMA over this and MW2 and BFBC2 put the final online nails in the coffin for this game.

And people moaning about steam are just fools.
#15
Apparently the single player game is ok, but it is dumbed down from the original as it is a console port. Again, apparently, the online game is dead due to hacking, etc - Codemasters are no longer supporting this game, so no more patches, etc.

I've just read the forums, and i've not played the game - so the above may be bull!

If you like tactical FPS then it's probably worth it at this price for the SP game alone.

Probably to do with the fact it's a total lag fest (or at least when it came out it was) no dedicated servers, no anti-cheating support and I don't think there's anything really 'special' about the online play, I think they placed the nails themselves.

Single player however is fun, like what's been mentioned it's a bit too easy, there's never any real challenge.

For a fiver though, it's worth it.

great game and i love the multiplayer, but theres about 2 matches going on in the world at most
#18
Steam are fantastic, where else can you buy relatively new games for next to nothing every week ? And Valve themselves have made some of the most iconic games ever.

I played this game on the 360 and really enjoyed it, 4 player co-op cant go wrong, for this price it s a must buy, I might buy it again just to play it on the PC.
#19
I completed this game on pc ..... multiplayer is dead and laggy.

Games is quite good, poor AI, need good system or it looks horrible.

Steam is an amazing way of buying cheap games ..... who wants boxes, manuals and dvds !

If you dont like steam then you should stick to consoles ... good luck

Don't bother with this game it's a huge failure of a game, it had good potential but they messed up, for one what sort of game ships without copy protection no cd-key or anything. There's a reason it's for £5.49 so soon.

Should be ok on low settings, your graphics card is a rebranded 9400GT so an ultra budget card

Game is pretty poor though
#23
I tried this game at a LAN last weekend and hated it. I felt sea sick with the gun waving all over the place as you run. Maybe this is realistic but compared to the "The Daddy" of online wargames, Battlefield 2, I thought Flashpoint was 'orrible.

Still, at such a low price it's hard to complain!
#24
This game is gash! Good price tho!
#25
you can sell it on steam, but the only way is by selling your steam account. It does happen a few of my friends have done it, a few are even now considering it so they might actually start to get back their lost social lives lol.

I dont think bf2 is the daddy, infact id go so far as to say I hate it. I've pumped 1000+ hours into bf2 and can tell you after losing interest in 2008 I decided to install a couple of weeks ago just to see if the same old faces were playing and indeed to my surprise they are! but I cant for the life of me remember why I used to enjoy playing this.....the shooting mechanics are some of the worst in a game ive ever witnessed...the recoil mechanics are a joke and snipers are underpowered immensly unless your talking about the svd.

agreed ARMA 2 is superb but very unforgiving (which is good) unlike call of duty you cant rush through it and have to use cover properly - you also need a decent pc to run it and its full of glitches but its still great (my pc is an i5, gtx260 grpahics and 8gb ddr3 gkill ram and runs arma2 on highest settings fine at a decent framerate>50frames/sec)
BF2 is superb too
MW2 is a totally different game though - arcade FPS

arma 2 is better but quite daunting as its more realstic and unforgiving (eg. snipers kill you if they see you even from seeminglu hundreds of yards away, unlike MW2 or OFDR where the AI enemies cant shoot for toffee from 10 yards)
OFDR is more pick up and play

Thankyou,I wondered what i was going to play after just finishing Medal of Honor Airborne!!

This game really isn't very good. You'd be better off buying TikiTori from the Steam 'specials' section for £1.80 or whatever.
