Behold Torchlight, a fresh new Action RPG franchise developed by Runic Games. Torchlight is being developed in Seattle by a veteran team composed of the designers and leads of projects like Diablo, Diablo II, Mythos, and Fate. Our team has spent many years honing and evolving this unique style of gameplay.

The adventure is set in the mining settlement of Torchlight, a boomtown founded on the discovery of rich veins of Ember - a rare and mysterious ore with the power to enchant or corrupt all that it contacts. This corruptive power may have dire consequences however, and players set out into the nearby mountains and depths below to discover the full extent of Embers influence on the civilizations that have come before.

Runic Games will initially release Torchlight as a standalone Single Player game, Torchlight will be released in the latter part of 2009 as a download or in box. Following the single player release, work will commence on a fully-featured MMO version.

This is on sale again, bloody hell I think this is the fourth time in as many months...

Good game though even if i'm not overly fond of the art style

Getting a boxed release soon for £14.99!

Sweet game. Reminded me a lot of the more arcade style of Baldur's Gate on the PS2.

Amazing deal -- this is a great Diablo ripoff and well worth the asking price. H+R.

Why? It's only a small download - not really worth £10 for boxed copy IMO

Good game, bit samey after a while but worth £3.75

Great game and at this price you might as well treat yourself.

Jesus, that's a good deal!!! I got this game on it's release (directly from the developer) & it's awesome - classic Diablo style gameplay. It's repetitiveness might become obvious as the game goes on, but it doesn't stop it being fun & compelling. And I love the style. At £3.75 this is an absolute no-brainer.

I very much doubt it. My netbook is a 1.6GB CPU with 2GB of RAM and that struggles at times with torchlight.

good fun for a cheapo game - definitely worth the asking price

Really good fun game, especially for this price. It was in a couple of the Steam Xmas deals, first for £7.50, then down to £3.75.

Undoubtedly a Diablo clone, but simplified. All the elements you would expect to see like skill trees, loot, storage chests, merchants, spells and scrolls are all there, but in a format that makes it really simple to just jump in and play.

My main recommendation for those starting out is to skip normal difficulty as it is too easy. The early levels are easy on most of the difficulties anyway, but trust me that once you are 15-20 levels in you will be kicking yourself for going with normal as everything will be very easy to kill with little risk of dying. Bump the difficulty up to the next level and it will be a much more satisfying challenge.

Given this is by a small independent developer, and soon to be coming out in a retail boxed copy I find this deal so close to retail release a bit cheeky by Steam. I know we all love a bargain, and this deal will be much cheaper than you will find it in stores, I would like to see a bit more money going to the devs to continue and make more fun games like this.
I imagine the devs would get a bit more money from a retail £10-15 copy than they will from Steam for a £3.75 sale.

Not as good as Diablo II

Great deal though

The developer is allowed to say no to Steam when they propose a sale. Just because Steam is the distribution channel doesn't mean they control all of the pricing and sales outright.

Is this a joke?
