In an audacious new election strategy, Labour is set to embrace Gordon Brown's reputation for anger and physical aggression, presenting the prime minister as a hard man, unafraid of confrontation, who is willing to take on David Cameron in "a bare-knuckle fistfight for the future of Britain", the Guardian has learned.

To mark the 1 April announcement, the Guardian has 100 limited edition campaign t-shirts to be won.

People are allowed to vote Cameron (or Conservative...my gripe is people don't remember we vote for a party in this Country, not a leader) if they wish - they say people learn from their mistakes anyway.

Wow , what a list of achievements. One would hardly think we are almost bankrupt.....

1. Found a framework for peace and justice in Northern Ireland

Terrorists 1 Justice 0

2. Our CO2 emissions fell by 10.8 million tonnes last year and our greenhouse gas emissions were 66 million tonnes lower than in 1997.

And you measured this how?

3. Introduced the National Minimum Wage and raised it to £5.52.

And boosted the grey economy by filling it with immigrants

4. Recycling has quadrupled since 1997..

We now have mountains of sh*t that we can't sell or recycle. The marketable value of scrap paper has fallen through the flow and we have tonnes and tonnes of it. The plastic mountain is growing and all we can do is ship it to the third world and let them worry about it.

5. Cut overall crime by 32 per cent.

.....more people now fail to report crime any more and the categorisation of crime has changed so that less is taken account of.

6. Record levels of literacy and numeracy in schools.

... anyone who has dealt with young people in industry can testify that spelling and numeracy in new starters is abysmal.

7. Young people achieving some of the best ever results at 14, 16, and 18.

...you are talking birth rates here aren't you

8. We have more than doubled Britain’s aid budget and are committed to reaching the UN target of 0.7 per cent of Gross National Income spent on aid by 2013, two years ahead of the UN goal

.....yes, we are borrowing more so that we can give it away.

9. Employment is at its highest level ever.

.....by putting school leavers into a different category so that they cannot register as unemployed and by having extremely high numbers of people on incapacity benefit you reduce the numbers.

10. Written off up to 100 per cent of debt owed by poorest countries.

.... i.e. accepted that we were not going to get it back

11. 85,000 more nurses.

....many of them from overseas

12. 32,000 more doctors.

.... ditto (see also http://www.independent.co.uk/life-style/health-and-families/health-news/locum-overdose-patient-unlawfully-killed-says-coroner-1889368.html

13. Brought back matrons to hospital wards.

... I 'll give you that one

14. Devolved power to the Scottish Parliament.

....but they get their cash from Central Government and could not survive on their own purses

15. Devolved power to the Welsh Assembly.

....but they too get their cash from Central Government and could not survive on their own purses

16. Dads now get paternity leave of 2 weeks for the first time.

....yipee

17. NHS Direct offering free convenient patient advice.

....so that you don't see your Doctor and then get sent to A&E

18. Gift aid was worth £828 million to charities last year.

....wow

19. Restored city-wide government to London.

...don't live there, it doesn't change my life one bit

20. Record number of students in higher education.

....and that keeps them out of the unemployed list until they graduate and fight to get a job at McDonalds

21. Child benefit up 26 per cent since 1997.

...This statement is only true because the 2011 rise was brought forward to this April as a vote-for-us again bribe

22. Delivered 2,200 Sure Start Children’s Centres.

...and now want to cut funding http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/education/8590034.stm

23. Introduced the Equality and Human Rights Commission.

...especially good if you are a criminal or want to avoid deportation

24. £200 winter fuel payment to pensioners & up to £300 for over-80s.

...but tax their pensions more

25. On course to exceed our Kyoto target for reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

...and which other countries put CO2 before their own workers and economies. The UK blindly leads where others are too clever to tread.

26. Restored devolved government to Northern Ireland.

...see (1) above

27. Over 36,000 more teachers in England and 274,000 more support staff and teaching assistants.

...and what a happy lot they are, especially those who cannot find employment of a full time position

28. All full time workers now have a right to 24 days paid holiday.

...if their company stays open long enough

29. A million pensioners lifted out of poverty.

...and lifted onto trolleys in hospital corridors

30. 600,000 children lifted out of relative poverty.

...by taking them away from their relatives

31. Introduced child tax credit giving more money to parents.

...especially good for those who are both working and will benefit more

32. Scrapped Section 28 and introduced Civil Partnerships.

...and this helps me how?

33. Brought over 1 million social homes up to standard.

...but are not replacing Council houses

34. Inpatient waiting lists down by over half a million since 1997.

...you get a first appointment then go off one list and join a different list

35. Banned fox hunting.

...but they still go hunting and kill foxes accidently!

36. Cleanest rivers, beaches, drinking water and air since before the industrial revolution.

...biggest polluters are the water companies. Fewer industries = less pollution

37. Free TV licences for over-75s.

...about time too

38. Banned fur farming and the testing of cosmetics on animals.

...and eradicating most farmers at the same time (remember foot & mouth)

39. Free breast cancer screening for all women aged between 50-70.

...but younger women can die regardless

40. Free off peak local bus travel for over-60s.

...but now find fewer busesto carry them

41. New Deal - helped over 1.8 million people into work.

...and how many of them remained in work?

42. Over 3 million child trust funds have been started.

...these will grow until the child reaches 18 and spends it in 2 days of getting it

43. Free eye test for over 60s.

....I can see that but NHS frames anywhere?

44. More than doubled the number of apprenticeships.

...we have no shipbuilders, boiler makers, platers etc. We could not return to be an industrial nation and will always have to rely on other countries to produce for us. Doubling a pitiful number is not difficult.

45. Free entry to national museums and galleries.

...but many museums have gone to the wall

46. Overseas aid budget more than doubled.

....this is (8) repeated

47. Heart disease deaths down by 150,000 and cancer deaths down by 50,000

...is this per year or in the last 15 years all tolled?

48. Cut long-term youth unemployment by 75 per cent.

...Further Education my son!

49. Free nursery places for every three and four-year-olds.

....good

50. Free fruit for most four to six-year-olds at school.

...but they didn't bring back free milk. Perhaps that is because we no longer have enough of our own milk farmers and buy milk from Eire & the continent. Who grew the fruit?

Vote Tory... Labour Never Works And Never Will Work....our Country Will Never Recover From His Spend Spend Spend Answer To Every Question.... All Our Great Grandchildren Will Be Paying For His Ego. The Man Is A Bad Tempered Fool , Vote Labour!!!!!! Not Whilst There Is A Hole In My Ar**

great t-shirt

People will only vote cameron if they want the country to fall to peices

Gordon's been there, done that and bought the t-shirt.
#27
Well coldfinger grasping at straws on a lot of the 50 admire the fact you tried, You can't blame Labour for a worldwide recession you saying if the torys where in power they would have stopped it, get real, I only need to visit my new doctors surgery or visit my local hospital to see the changes labour have made to my area . Vote tory at your peril. ! caring and conservative just dont go together.
#28
There is no democracy, the 3 main parties in with a chance at winning are actually all the same. It does not matter if you vote Lib/Lab/Con in my opinion.
Our free services are caving in and it seems that Labour have plans to make more cuts to the NHS, meaning the loss of doctors/nurses and wards. But I bet all the NHS managers/admin will all save their own jobs.
I find it rather worrying considering the increasing decay of our NHS.

Ah, The Mail..

Superb move to the poster of this and 10/10 - youve stirred up more hornets than I could with a big stick.
Gordon v David who cares - there both found wanting - put them both in a pit with a couple of Rottweilers and see if the dogs win.
Doesnt matter who you vote for the government gets in...
#31
I'm not sure who you think was grasping at straws smp.

The 50 wonderful achievements don't serve justice to a wonderful government which has achieved wonderful things. The light touch on banking was a great achievement which is unmentioned, the multi-million pound IT projects which have achieved nothing (when you do sit in the hospital you can ask them about the computer system which has failed to link all health services) etc etc etc. You can cherry pick the good stuff and ignore all the waste, garbage trouser filling and bad decisions of the last three governments.

Whoever you vote for will have to really punish the country to get us out of the debt which Gordon has gotten us into. Germany and France will bolster Greece to stop them falling but there is nobody who would do the same for us. Once the election is over the hurt will begin and if Gordon gets back in then it only qualifies the mismanagement of the previous regime.

Can anyone do better, who knows?I just don't see who can be proud to wear that T-shirt and think that they are giving good advice.

Voted cold, just like the next 25 years will be, no matter who gets in. :x
#32
I should clarify for those who have recently lost the desire to enjoy life that this t-shirt and the campaign poster behind it were all...jokes.
#33
we reap what we sow
#34
Good advert
Hope the tory boys take a good pummeling

They (torys) had a massive lead and now its level pegging
Everyone can see they have no policys and no real ideas to take the country forward.

How can a man with a personal fortune of over £140 million have any idea how to help the working man ????
#35
termite
Is that the top 50 Labour achievements?

Ha Ha Ha. Cameron will walk it.

Lol thats about right cameron is all you have and he is just a mouth pieces for a loads of torys without a clue
