Though they're frequently lumped in with the U.K. punk movement of the 1970s, the Stranglers owed more of a debt to '60s garage rock and '70s biker bands. They were older than many of the punks on the scene and possessed an instrumental prowess that they weren't afraid to demonstrate. The pronounced keyboards in the Stranglers' songs positioned them as something of a Doors for the summer of hate.

Great band but not sure I really need yet another compilation album. Im sure I have these songs over and over on various albums. Anyone wanting to check out their new material should have a listen to Suite XVI (2006) and Norfolk Coast (2004). Although Norfolk Coast was an improvement over the previous three albums I'm glad Paul Roberts was finally given the elbow, was never a fan of his affected lyrics and Baz Warne shows on Suite that he's a more than capable vocalist. Suite also sees a return to the rattling aggressive basslines we knew and loved from JJ. Go on, have a listen you know you want to!

Roll on 18th March, already have my tickets for Cambridge!!

Never the same since Hugh Cornwell left really.

Good price for a compilation if you don't have the actual albums.
