Welcome to HUKD!

We're all snobs in my house, and while I would much rather buy 2L bottles at £2.50. We have to act like we're not “chavs” apparently, thus meaning I have to buy glass bottles, or alternatively, now, cans!! Thanks OP!

Thanks guys!

I'm the same, I'd rather not buy the "chav" like bottles, but they are cheeper

Talking of drinking cider from big plastic bottles. The bass player from a band I was in used to turn up to rehearsals with a 3 litre 'party pack' bottle of white lightning. By the end of the practice it was empty and he was completely legless.

I used to drink it until Magners came on the scene... now I'll always go for the latter if I'm in a pub/bar as the price for a pint really isn't that different. Magners is still way to expensive in shops though vs Strongbow.

Will be going down tomorrow to buy a few crates. Managed to get 4crates of 20 for £10 at Morrisons the other week and they've almost all gone :D
Need to stock up again :D

You have got to be winding us up?
It is the alcopop version of cider, tasteless & weak to start with, and after you put ice in it to water it down even more, as they suggest, even the 10 year-olds can drink it in parks without getting too drunk!

It is expensive for one reason, it is advertised heavily as trendy! I mean, the Irish have always been world famous for quality apple growing & cider production! NOT!
Who had even heard of Irish cider before Magners, I seriously wonder if it is just imported apple concentrate they ship to Ireland to make into cider so they can call it Irish!

I was even more amused when Gaymers and Bulmers stuck their cheap stuff in smaller glass bottles and quadrupled the price - they were always the cheapest nastiest ciders about until White Lightning came along & even the park dwelling winos and tramps had given them up because they could get better!

thanks for pointing this out - better value than the 15x440ml for £8 at Morrisons which I was planning on getting this weekend..

 Magners was a failing product like mentioned before its due to the right advertising and marketing.
Cider is the way forward though, tramps must know something as they all drink it with the odd 1 or 2 on special brew.
best alcohol to drink if your doing an all dayer. :w00t:

Speaking as someone who works next door to Bulmers, I think you will find all their cider is produced from concentrate - and IMHO, all singularly vile.

If you want a cheap tasty cider, do yourself a favour, put your pre-conceptions to one side and try ALDI's Taurus cider, 2ltrs for £1.75ish ( or it was the last time I bought some).

Really, how difficult is it to appreciate that everyone has different tastes?

It's a really basic concept and will help you get on in life with accepting others

I don't take it with ice, and I've always been a cider drinker and prefer mangers. Strongbow is stronger in shops (5.3% vs 4.5%) but according to Wiki it's watered down in pubs to 4.5%. I can't stand Blackthorn though.

TESCO are doing 2 x cases of several different types of beer/lager/cider for £15 (1 case for £10) But strongbow is one the list so the Tesco deal seems a better deal to me. I bought 2 cases yesterday (brilliant birthday pressie for a mate whos a stongbow drinker!!) and they had loads. Also included were Magners however I didn't see any Magners in my local store.
Fosters, Carling, Old Speckled Hen, Stella, Magners, Tennants, John Smiths Extra Smooth.Running untill 26/10/08

thanks, this cider is very drinkable!

I do, but every now and again something at the extreme end of the range kicks that principle a bit far!

It works out at roughly the same price per can by my calculations :-D

Depends what is closer to you I guess...My body suddenly fancies a trip down to the Sainsburys near work tonight. Will have fun getting home on the train :-D

since starting on this stuff a few years ago I've noticed that dry, red, itchy patches appear on my cheeks after a heavy session. A local drunk informed that these "cider patches" on a man of my age are something to be proud of.

I'm not too sure.

Hot though, once you break that seal.........

It's a week since this was posted.
It could well be finished by now. A week is a lifetime on both the Internet and when it comes to bargains!
