I would not describe NZ as paradise. Very pleasant and nice people, but all of the major tourist attractions in the South Island are way over rated. Milford Sound being the worst. The scenery in the American West - Montana, Wyoming and Utah is far more interesting in my humble opinion. There is some nice scenery in NZ but you will not find it without local help.

NZ is now very expensive for Brits owing to the weak pound.

1) New Zealanders are not friendly towards Brits.
2) Like everywhere else, there are parts that are hovels.
3) It is far from Paradise.
4) New Zealanders (rightly) have an inferiority complex with Australians.
5) A Kiwi will talk about nothing else but how good they are, their country is, the lifestyle is and how it blows everywhere else out of the water.
6) After all that is considered, it's no wonder its free.

Oh and they're 40 years behind in modern cultural terms (Led Zeppelin are No.1) and go around saying 'Choice' all fecking day/

Some amazing scenery in NZ but agree about the south in a way. Milford was ok but was described as a sort of paradise but I didn't agree. Queenstown was amazing though, one of the best places ive ever been but then I also went to Invercargill which I must say was so dull. Enjoyed the North much more. Fantastic place and i'll be back to NZ.

I never had a single problem and I met lots of them, more than most who go for a holiday I would guess due to what I did there.

Bit harsh, but I would say Kiwis are a bit weird, lived with a few of them. I met one the other week who said he lived in a cave for 3 years(maybe i've been hanging around in the wrong circles!) so maybe that is a cheaper option than what is being suggested

We enjoy the company of people from all over the world, brits included. You may have found it difficult because by the sound of it you are one of the whinging Pommies we enjoy winding up so much :w00t: Just a shame that people like yourself cause so many decent brits to be tarnished with the same brush

The majority of us have no issues with the Aussies, we share a friendly rivalry, but that's about it. There's certainly no great resentment between countries, as you seem to imply.

We are proud of our country, lifestyle and culture, what's wrong with a bit of national pride.

And finally what the hell is wrong with a bit of Led Zep, they're Real Choice Bro :-D

It's statements like the above which lead me to believe I've identified your problem. In London's East End you would be described as a merchant banker, in other parts of the world the name is even less pleasant.

I can assure you that any animosity displayed towards you wasn't because you are a Brit, but rather because you are, as they say in the East End, a merchant banker.

I hope this clears things up for you, and any other Brits thinking of visiting my homeland. We love hosting folks from all over the world down in God's own, but we'd much prefer it if the merchant bankers stayed at home.

Recently went to NZ, and contrary to some of the comments on here, found it to be a wonderful wee place. Milford Sound I didn't get to see because the weather was always too bad, but friends out there the same time as me going a different route managed to visit the place with blue skies, their photos are like shots from Avatar, absolutely stunning.

Everywhere I go has its own unique charm and beauty, NZ was no different. The people were exceptionally friendly, the country has a attitude which is unlike any I've experienced. Some might call it a naive attitute, but I just think its an attitute thats been unspoilt because of its small population, I am very envious of their country and I hope they dont fall into the trap of bringing too many people there and overexpanding. Its a slow paced place, I liked that but it wont be to everyones tastes, and best of all, being welsh, they also 'love' their sheep ;)

I hate to preach to the probably very wise but why do we get sucked into these comments. The person who makes comments like that feed from our 'biting' back. I am trying to ignore them and for the most i feel nothing but sorrow for them. They must be unhapy to be so negative.

Kiwis have always been good to me yeah for sure there are good and bad points like everywhere im guessing.

But here working for a dollar or stuck in a very nice climate on some fantastic beaches having hols..and maybe with some freebies thrown in. As gloria once said 'wish i was there'. Keep smiling and stay happy.

Jesus, talk about different opinions of the same thing!

Milford Sound was stunning! And I've been to Utah. I spent 3 weeks touring round the south island in a camper van, and my jaw was in almost constant dropped mode.

And the people were - without exception - lovely. I'm sure there are tossers, and I'm sure there are crap areas - but compared to the UK, it's got far far less of both.

Back to the deal. Pretty good.

I have been to Nz 5 times and unfortunately the exchange rate has killed the value which it once had.

When i went first in 1998 it was pretty cheap to get over there, stay there and pay for food/drinks/tours etc. Now it's like European prices.

I find the people there very friendly. Definitely a different focus on life.
There is some stunning scenery. I also went to Milford sounds it it poured with rain.Anyone who went when the weather was good say it was amazing.

However, some could say that you only need to drive to Scotland to find the similar scenary and people. And no 32hr flight required. They have a point.

Nz cities are fairly drab. Auckland while fantasic is a bit like Portsmouth.

As for Nz bigging themselves up. Yes, possibly true, but why not. It's something us Brits should do more. we also live in an amazing country.

I've been travelling the world for over 5 years now, I have visited a good proportion of the world and am considered one of the worlds most travelled people. I have seen the good and bad of most cultures. I totally adore NZ and your complaints are what make me like it, I think you are simply close minded and ignorant. Given that you mention further on that you grew up in Howick only makes me feel glad for NZ that you left, but sad for the UK that you came here :(

I am saddened that your racist stereotyping encouraged the trolling, but why bother posting that rubbish?

There is no such thing as a New Zealander nor Kiwis as they are British ( in the same way that Chinese in New Zealand are called Chinese, Indians in New Zealand are called Indians). If you ask a white guy where he came from in New Zealand he should say England, Wales, Scotland, British Isles or Ireland just like when an oriental guy in New Zealand is asked where he came from , he is expected to say China, Korea or Japan. If he answered he was a New Zealander he would not be believed and be pressed with a further question of where he came from originally or his parents. Most white people in New Zealand are ethnically from the British Isles. Even the national flag has a union jack on it so they should really be called British. Seriously, Air NewZealand is a very good airline to use especially with a stopover either in Los Angeles or Singapore on the way there.

Oh my God.

This has to be the worse kind of trolling I have ever seen or at least I hope it is or we have quite possibly the most ignorant moron known to man. For shame.

P.S. I lived and worked in NZ from 08/09 and people from all over the globe are pouring into NZ with the hope of gaining residency. The quality of life is the best in the world. I consider NZ to be one the most naturally beautiful countries I have ever travelled through. I was mainly South Island, the best island ;)

P.P.S. That Avatar of mine is Porters Heights ski field, Canterbury, NZ.

Hmmm... lets extend the logic of your argument - if you ask any white person in the UK where they are from most should (by your logic) answer that they are Vikings.
Your post is wrong on several levels and, to be frank, is borderline racist.
Are YOU Australian by any chance? (joke)

Sounds good to me, much prefer to see one of the best bands OF ALL TIME (no Kanye) to whatever little jockstrap Simon Cowell's churned out this week. Sounds like they have more culture than us here in the UK, as further underlined by your drivel-laden post.

I know people who are as kiwi as kiwi can be, they arrived on thei first boats from somewhere in the pacific island and to more modern kiwis who arrived on the first boats from europe - not neccessary britain.

New Zealand would not have a good rugby union side without their influx of Islanders . England have got one or two non indigenous players but not a good side currently , so it must be South Africa huh....
