shame i already got spirited away. Cat returns was okay. As was kikis delivery service and howls moving castle. Though some of the titles have a crap story, or just seem random, the imagery in most ghibli titles is stunning. Just be warned, grave of the fireflies is damn depressing. On another note, did anyone notice the cute cuddly totorro toy in toy story 3.
#10
This is a great deal, like Zatoichi I'm awaiting a blu-ray release of the entire collection.
#11
My daughter got me into Ghibli and Totoro is one of my absolute fav. films - also love Howls' Moving Castle and Spirited Away.
#12
Finally come down to a reasonable price. Already got Spirited Away, Mononoke, and Laputa. Only other one I really want is Nausicaa - have to wait for a £5 on its own deal.

Yep I did.

And I just watched My Neighbour Totoro on Film 4 earlier. **Sigh**

The only one here I haven't seen is Ponyo

Massive fan of Studio Ghilbi. HOT!
For those interested in anime and manga this site is extremely good for finding the movie right for you. http://www.anime-planet.com

Yes we noticed Totoro in Toy Story 3 aswell- also saw South Park the other night and there was an injured Totoro in that as well. It was part of the story and if you know South Park then it will not surprise you to hear that.
Spirited Away , Totoro and Kikis delivery service are all great films if anyone is thinking about getting some.

I saw Totoro on film 4 earlier as well, a strange film not quite the masterpiece I'd heard it was. Incidently it was 2 for £10 on Ghibli films at Play a month or so ago so must be an on-going promotion.

This deal has been going for a while, but its still a good price and worth picking up a few films, I'm sure it won't last forever.
#18
The only minor quibble I have with some of these discs is that some (castle in the sky) suffer a bit from 'dubtitling'. Basically where dual audio (English and Japanese) is offered but the subtitles are for the English dub only.

Luckily Ghibli movies for the most part have superb English voice casts so it's not the end of the world.
#19
i got them all but hot anyway
#20
Hot, but can't stand their style of animation personally
#21
Thanks for the heads up, my other half loves these films and could do with a couple more. Ordered Totoro and Ponyo.
#22
Thanks, told my girlfriend about it and she picked up two to add to her collection. :)
#23
To be honest we prefer to watch in the original Japanese not some American voice actors voise booming out of the speakers. But that is because we want her to be bilingual.

Grave of fireflies is meant to be real sad !! it is awesome

I used to be a fish......
#26
This was posted on here about a month ago, when I bought them all! Still a HOT deal though :-)
#27
Spirited Away got to be the best 1.
#28
Awesome films. HOT
#29
If only I had some money! bah, will try and get people to get me some to fill in my collection.

It's not awesome, the word awesome shouldn't be applied to it. It's a thoroughly touching and sad tale that is told extraordinarily well that will haunt you after you watch it. It lacks the optimism and bright and airy feel which other Ghibli films have (most are done by Miyazaki, this isn't) but in turn tells arguably one of the most human stories in a film ever.

It's not entertainment, but its cinema at its finest.

Howl's Moving Castle
Laputa - Castle In The Sky
The Castle Of Cagliostro
All super to watch as adults or kids (or cats).

So these are American dubbed and not original Japanese? If so I'm going to go and empty my basket.
#34
Princess Mononoko is my favorite out of these definitely worth getting if you haven't seen it

They're both (either English dub, or Japanese voices with English subtitles). Personally I was crying in agony whenever I accidentally turned on the English dub version, but I guess some people want everything in English even though that's not the original language.

By the way, does anyone know why these Ghibli movies all have black bars around the movie? The movies that I bought over here in The Netherlands don't have that problem (but they haven't released all the ghibli films over here, so I have to import).

I was gonna be honest and admit that I'd never heard of this before, but everyone else here seems to know so not gonna make myself look a complete dork by saying that now.....

I'll just add some heat and crawl away quietly like the uncultured dweeb that I appear to be

I've got a 2 year old neice... any of these suitable?

I've ordered Spirited away and Princess Mononoko but looking at those they're not the best choice. They're in the IMDB top 250 though so that'll do me for now. Any advice for top250vsChild would be much appreciated. :)

2 year old is really young... If you want a dvd that you can enjoy along with your niece, you're best off getting Ponyo and My Neighbour Totoro. They both have really cute kids in them that she may be able to identify with. I wouldn't really consider these childrens movies though, so you may find that you actually enjoy these more than she does. Kind of like Pixar movies, but then even more so.

yeah i was clutching at straws a little bit, but i was hoping some may be suitable. hehe.
I was going to swap princess mononoko based on imdb comments but play had already packed them within 5minutes!! shouldn't complain, but i was hoping for the 3 for £15 loophole :)
I was in Japan for 3 weeks last summer so I should really have watched some of these, especially as I bought some merchandise as gifts and went to loads of museums. I'm just lazy

Princess Mononoke isn't suitable for young kids as it has a fair bit of battlefield violence.
