Classic Anime from Studio Ghibli

Studio Ghibli, Inc. is a Japanese animation film studio. The company's logo features the character Totoro from Hayao Miyazaki's film My Neighbor Totoro.

In 2002, Spirited Away won an Oscar for Best Animated Feature and it remains the only anime film to have done so.

Brilliant, come winter they keep their nuts handy.
#13
Cant wait to add Ponyo to the collection.
#14
cheers man, ordered spirted away.
#15
nice, great find
#16
Of the oldies I'd highly recommend Laputa and Nausikaa. Porco Rosso and Mononoke are also pretty brill. Spirited Away is probably the best all round. Not been a fan of the last two Miyazakis (Howl's Moving Castle and Ponyo) - look pretty but story doesn't deliver.
#17
Love these films. Already have all of them, HMV often have them at this price and so I treated myself at the time. HOT find.

Mononoke is my favourite and Fireflies would have to be my least....too much depression and not as magical as the others.

Excellent deal... thanks

Excellent deal... thanks

Fantastic films admittedy - but why an excellent deal? - they've been this price (and cheaper) on and off for years...

These Ghibli posts look a bit like rep/heat hunting to me - one deal goes hot so everyone starts posting Ghibli deals for virtually the same price...

(I exclude my own deal of course - cos I'm special ;-))

All excellent films. They may get the Blu-Ray treatment in the future though.

All excellent, But Toroto is fun too.. and kiki and oh forget it i loves em all!!
#22
Spirited Away is absolutely brilliant definitely worth watching as are all these films by Studio Ghibli. I found Grave Of Fireflies to be especially heartbreaking.
#23
excellent, hot!
#24
i Love Studio Ghibli films! shame i already got them all lol just waiting for Ponyo.
#25
Beautiful films. My only regret is I didn't go to the Ghibli Museum while I was in Japan in August...
#26
Great films , not sure about a hot deal though. They've always been around this price.

Voted hot though mainly due to the amount of detail in the post.

Voted HOT, if just for the quality films listed. Studio Ghibli is the best.

Regarding the "raccoons" with testies in Pom Poko. They are "Tanuki", below from Wikipedia.

"Tanuki is the Japanese word for the Japanese raccoon dog. They have been part of Japanese folklore since ancient times. Tanuki statues usually show humorously large testicles, typically hanging down to the floor or ground, although this feature is sometimes omitted in contemporary sculpture. The actual wild tanuki has disproportionately large testicles, a feature that has inspired humorous exaggeration in artistic depictions. Tanuki may be shown with their testicles flung over their backs like travellers' packs, or using them as drums." :-D

If only they did a box set...

If you don't cry at Grave of the Fireflies you are not human. End of.

Great price, might pick up a few of them although Spirited Away was a god awful film
#30
Great find. My Neighbour Totoro, if one of my wifes fav films ever.
Kiki's Delivery Service was also another of our favourites.

Castle in the Sky, Cat Returns and Princess Mononoke were also brill.
Mind you a quick word of warning, if buying for the kids, Mononoke is not a cutesy film, it's fairly graphic. I'm sure you dont want the little uns seeing bodies "sans" limbs/heads.

Great find for what is a fairly complete selection of Ghibli. heat added.
#31
nice deal. i remember when channel 4 did a season of these a couple of years ago, loved my neighbour totoro.

I didn't cry - last I looked I was still human - Spirited Away is great. End of. ;-)
#33
Any one seen My Neighbors the Yamadas? It's the only one I've not seen from this series
#34
Tempted to buy Laputa to replace a grainy old VHS copy i have - perhaps the floating island was an inspiration for the floating mountains in Avatar??

Same thoughts here - I looked up the ones missing from my collection a couple of weeks ago, and found all of these at the same price then. Not voted either way - but I'm still waiting for 4 or 5 of them to come down.
