Something like that would be really handy if you fancy a laptop for going back to university this semester Ray. With mine, I can plug it into the net points in the library, so I never have to hunt for a free computer! Our library gets very busy round lunch time, so something like this would be handy.

 I,ve been checking this out and this laptop appears on the surface to be a superb purchase. However could some of the forum laptop experts check it out and confirm.

It appears to me that NEC have a new range and this might be some of the last stock of this model bought in bulk by think4.
The specs appear to outshine the recent inspiron 1300 deals from the front page, my main concern is the brands limited availability accross the net also very few reviews and virtually no reviews from professional review sources.

I smell a bargain but the world of laptops is a minefield and to get a good deal you probably need to be looking and comparing for weeks, which is why I call for the expert Hot UK Deals team to investigate.

Looks like a bargain to me, here are some extended specs, note that not all apply to this offered laptop.
Extended warranty looks to be available, though i'm unsure as to who it would be through, Nec/Think4?

Others seem to be selling this at £100 - £150 more which suggests that this could be an end of line sale, but it looks a nice piece of kit. Any views on whether NEC are a good laptop make ?

Here is a review on another NEC laptop just for an indication of build quality etc. It has a boradly similar spec but rather better graphics than the one actually on offer. Looks good but not outstanding.

For the last couple of years I have been ordering NEC desktop PCs for use at work, we have aquired 7 since 2002 and we have had no problems with them at all. These are all budget machines, but the build quality seems much better than Dell machines for the same price. Because of the reliability of the NEC desktops I decided to buy an NEC i-select M5210 CEL M370 notebook. I ordered it with 256mb and have since added an extra 512mb of kingston memory which has made a massive improvement to the performance. So far i am really impressed with the NEC i-select M5210, the build quility is really good, I installed Ubuntu linux instead of windows because I intend to use the machine to test my web applications. I think that anyone looking for a budget notebook should seriously consider getting an i-select M5210.

Thanks for the extra info guys :)

NEC products I've bought before have been reliable and well built. I would think by brand name, they would be a suitable alternative to Dell, HP or Toshiba for instance.

Good spot, looks like it's just DVD+R/DVD+RW :)

It is dual layer however :)

The 512MB ram, is this 1 or 2 sticks of 256?
I think most laptop memory is loaded in pairs. For some reason they like to fill both slots [often the onlly two].

Thanks for the listing Ray - very much appreciated. To answer the above questions the NEC optical drive is indeed dual layer. As for the RAM, we believe it is a single 1 x 512Mb chip rather than 2 x 256Mb modules.

just physically opened one up and I can now confirm it's definitely 1 x 512Mb chip.
