Best news and current affairs mag there is.. after reading this lon term you will realise the BBC and ITV news are so institutionalised and so uninformative. It is a real alternative to the BBC and ITV for world affairs beyond the UK.. Well worth the 50p per copy.

Thanks for posting. Normally a bit too biased toward the left for me, but probably good for keeping up with what's going on back home. Heat and rep.

Just a 'heads up'. I too got this magazine for years and thought it was unbiased and had a good coverage.

That was until the IRA bombed Manchester on the day before Fathers Day when the place was full of women and children who had gone in to buy presents.

Not a word was printed in Time about it, although after I called the London office to complain they confirmed that reports had been sent to the US where the mag is printed.

In contrast, the bomb in Oklahoma was given great prominence.

The conclusion seemed to be that as folk in the US were funding the IRA, and the Irish vote was important to the administration, reports that they were paying to kill women and children wouldn't be welcomed so they weren't published. The reports might have been fair and accurate but the over-riding editorial policy appeared to be suspect.

I cancelled my subscription after that.

In general after the Vietnam war, the lesson learnt is that it is necessary to clean up all the news coverage so that the viewers and readers get the impression as close as possible that there is no suffering in conflict. To an event that the news also covers a verbal warning from the newscaster that "viewers may find pictures disturbing"!

Yeap, have to agree... Time covers stories and a couple of weeks later they become news on the BBC.

How does it compare with 'Newsweek'?

The other one I quite like (and it does introductory trial issues every now and again) is 'The Week'.
Worth checking that out too.
