This would mean a set of three suitcases for 28 quid.

If anyone could vouch for the quality then it stands to be a very good deal.

Anyone know if they are rigid or material - or their weight as with the recently dropped allowances on some of the budget airlines this is now more relevant.

Heat added as even if they weigh a ton they are fine for cars/trains/coaches.

I saw these instore the other day. They are semi-rigid (I probably wouldn't trust one for hold luggage) and I think the 20" (hand luggage sized) weighed 3.2kg.

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) sets guidelines for cabin baggage/hand luggage/carry-on luggage size [1]. They are not mandatory, however, and individual airlines can and do vary their requirements. The IATA guideline states:

Cabin baggage should have maximum length of 22 in (56 cm), width of 18 in (45 cm) and depth of 10 in (25 cm). The sum of these three dimensions should not exceed the 45 in (115 cm). These dimensions include wheels, handles, side pockets, etc.

As an example of the lack of standardisation some of the following airlines requirements are:

* Austrian Airlines - Hand luggage may not exceed 8 kg in weight or a maximum size of 55 x 40 x 23 cm.
* British Airways - One bag; 56 cm x 45 cm x 25 cm (22in x 18in x 10in) [2]
* Jet Airways - Hand baggage dimensions vary according to the model of aircraft. [3]
* Malaysian Airlines - One bag; 115 cubic cm (56cm x 36 cm x 23 cm) or 45 cubic inches (22" x 14" x 9"), not exceeding 5 kg [4]
* Virgin Atlantic - One bag, not larger than 23 cm x 36 cm x 56 cm (9in x 14in X 22in) overall and should also not weigh more than 6 kg [5]

Following the increase in restrictions imposed on flights from UK airports and to the USA after the events of August 2006 (2006 transatlantic aircraft plot), hand baggage on such flights was restricted to one cabin bag no bigger than 45 cm x 35 cm x 16 cm [6]. On 21 September 2006, the UK government advised that from the following day, the allowable size of the single item of hand baggage on outgoing flights from the UK would be increased to 56 cm x 45 cm x 25 cm (ca. 22in x 18in x 10in) [7], the IATA guideline size.

agree. Very poor quality, hence the price I guess.

I've seen them & they're quite nice, but if you're looking for something that will last a few years then I think you would have to pay a lot more, I've had similar ones & got 2/3 yrs out of them, but that only equates to 3 maybe 4 holidays. not bad for the price but don't expect top quality

just went to my local store, i didnt buy any, as i felt they wouldnt last a single flight, due to the quality and the largest one seemed a medium size case

i use to work for matalan and every timesuit cases went in the sale we sold hundreds, then a few weeks later got hundreds returned due to damage.
but there policy was we would refund regardless of the problem so even if they dont last take them back after your holls and get a refund (saves trying to find a place to store them):thumbsup:

Bought 2 of the 28" cases and got a 24" one free 10 days ago and this worked out at £10 per case. We took the two larger ones on a trip to U.S.A. One was quite badly torn at the back during transit.
I'd agree that these cases are fine if alwsays under your control but not likely to last too long if regularly thrown about by baggage handlers.
Also worth noting that there is no handle on the long side so carrying the 28" cases upstairs can be a problem if you don't have long arms.
However, at £10 a case they have got to be worth a look.

suitcases good quality or bad all get the same treatment by overworked baggage handlers and that is they get thrown about be it in manchester or sunny miami!

and for that reason ib be tempted to buy these cheapie ones cos if they break/rip etc than no bother. id rather have a cheapy (disposable) one torn than a pricey one!

iv had matalan suitcases in the past and what i can say is that they do there job (ive tested mine to above and beyond the max luggage allowance >30KG)

I'd go for these as hard shell and still half price
