FREESVP for free delivery

That's worth a hot vote alone.

As for the players has anyone had one and able to shed some light on the quality et al?!? I quite fancy something on these lines, if they have some positive reviews I may well have a dabble!

Throw the guarantee away as soon as you get it as it's worthless.
Sumvision don't honour guarantees.
Had to vote cold because of this.
#3
do these support playback of .MKV video files?
#4
I'm looking for something like this and would welcome others views on it.
#5
oo shinney.

since SVP has updated and gone to a new web site....have we all lost our HotUKdeals discount?...might only have been a few pence....it used to show the price with a line through it and then the "members" price....anyone?

add another few quid...

surely your gripe is with SVP then...that's if you bought your sumvision item from them...I've always found SVP to be more than helpful in the aftersales dept.

so....where did you buy your sumvision priduct from?;-)

That's another "I don't know the law" to chalk up...

Under the Sale of Goods Act, If an item is/becomes defective your FIRST claim is against the retailer (so long as they're UK based which SVP are).

They are obliged to repair or replace an item for it's "reasonable lifetime" - the length of that varies depending on the item - in this case I'd say it's at -least 2 years tho.

For the first 6 months they hae to repair/replace or prove you've abused the item. After that you must prove the fault is inherrant and not due to your misuse or whatever (easy with something like an XBOX 360 - harder with something like this) - but that's still 6 months of rock-solid cover.

Guarantees are the SECOND place you go for help - as they're offered by manufacturers under their own terms and aren't covered by consumer law thus they can "make up the rules as they go along". Normally tho, you've no use for a guarantee at all - they're really just sales/marketting incentives which, unless they exceed the 'reasonable lifetime' of the item - are worthless.

It really is amazing how many people don't understand the law tho - you see it everywhere with people complaining about the manuf. when it's the retailer they should be dealing with everytime.

Hate to spoil what 'could' be a great buy, but the link takes you to the standard model no HDMI in the specs

the HDMI model is £80.48 here

Yes, we've got a bit mixed up here. Hopefully nobody buys it thinking it's got HDMI
#15
I bought one of these (non HDMI) when they first came out and had problems that never seemed to be resolved with a firmware upgrade I just use mine as an external now.

Alot of discussion here: http://www.avforums.com/forums/portable-dvd-media-players-recorders/879757-audio-out-sync-sumvision-cyclone-media-player.html

I personally think don't waste any money on this, i'm sure theres players with less problems .

Cheers

Can i record TV with this thing?

Nope.

Poor media player I would not recommend it, struggles to play a lot of the files I tried, and the picture quality is very poor. And this one doesn't include a hard drive you need a internal hd to make this work you can't just plug a wd one in
#19
Very poor reviews and many thousand out there from a duff batch with synch problems. You can see why this is now being sold off cheaply now, I'd hazzard a guess that these are the problematic ones!

Sumvision don't have to honour the guarantee. Items are now guaranteed for 2 years under european law, which the retailer has to honour. Even before that, the responsibility was for 1 year via UK law. There was no need to vote cold at all

Sorry OP, but on the basis that the spec is wrong, have clicked spam - surely best to pull this before someone gets stung?

Get an old xbox off ebay and put XBMC on it, you'll never look back, supports pretty much every file format, is skinnable, supports plugins....the greatest free software ever.

Any idea how would that work as the Network Storage, it ahs the LAN connection so I was thinking of using it with my router. Additional features would be just a rarely used gizmos.
It seems good price for the Network Hard Drive Enclosure

mate - read the posts! there are only 1 or 2 people saying positive things about this thing(!)......it's now expired, and the only reason I can think of (especially looking at the heat on this) is that SVP and/or our newest members have been making it hot

go for Freecom/Mediagate, WD TV, or fork out for the big daddy, Popcornhour

At first I thought it was a steal, coz even without the video playing features which most of people complained about if it was NAS it would be a good device. BUT although the image shows etherenet connection it is not built into the standard model unlike the image shows.
Yeah u're right, will need to look for sth else.

I've been tempted to get one of these http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/413226/western-digital-tv-hd-1080p-media-p/

Seems to get good reviews and it is HDMI. You can reserve one from PC World for about £80.

European law makes no difference here. The two years relates to the time period in which you are entitled to raise a complaint. As stated earlier, you may have to prove inherent defects after a period within that two years. The Sale of Goods Act allowed for six years - not one year - to raise a complaint, so was always way ahead of European law.

I have notice 1 thing some time some of us like to put EXPIRED posted items which are still available at same price in original posting, for instead look at this item it is still at £38.85 @ SVP.

Have you read what has been said? The item is not as described (both in text & pictures) - I agree that it seems more correct to spam rather than expire this, but both will hopefully stop someone buying a mis-sold item.

I'll 2nd and 3rd that - I have 2 working XBMC systems here (one upstairs, one down) and they play everything I've thrown at them (there's even a slightly shaky iPlayer script for them!!)

Hell they even play files which are zipped or rarred - and an XBOX is £20-30 (a remote might be a harder find perhaps) and it's dead easy to softmod one (all your need is the original Splinter Cell game and a memory card with a hacked save aboard).

I got one shortly after posting - £79 from PC World. It seems pretty good.

Have to agree with the XBMC fanboys, for none HD media NOTHING beats a modded Xbox and XBMC for both value and performance.
