I have one of these and its great from taking abroad and using in hotel rooms etc.

I got one a few days ago fror my son. I own a Western Digital HD Player and didnt expect much from this, but its actually very, very good! Not HD obviously, but its played every DivX etc. Ive thrown at it.

Is it cold due to being cheaper elsewhere? Because as a product its a steal at this price.

I've had one about 6 months and its a great little gadget.

A very good price for those that prefer to buy from Amazon.

Heat from me.

Does anyone know if portable hard drives can be played & powered through this? Or is it just flash drives?

Yes it can. Well mine does anyway. Link below has some reviews and discussion on the ebuyer website.

same price at ebuyer but no cheaper anywhere I can find

I dont generally dload MKV so this does me fine
#11
is it divx certified?
will it play this?
#12
I dont know if its officially certified, but its played all my AVI's so far.

As for the 4gb stick you link to, I see no reason why not. Ive tried it with 3 flash drives, all work fine.
#13
Actually, it blatantly has the DivX logo (amongst others) on the box packaging.... so for what its worth, it may well be official as far as DivX cert goes.

Anyway, it plays fine, official or not!

link to the new version?

Amazon sell both, but you have to remember that this version is half the price of the version that plays MKV.

I know that my lad will never play MKV files so the extra expense is pointless for my needs.... but if MKV is going to be used a lot then its a no brainer! :-)
#17
How much is the one that plays MKV files, is it sold directly by Amazon, link please.
#18
Hopefully this works

NOT sold directly by Amazon. Also, have a quick Google, there might be a better price around.

Get the other one listed for £35 then.

Whats the difference between this one: http://www.ebuyer.com/product/225049?utm_source=google&utm_medium=products
and the one listed?

Does either have a composite out or just hdmi?
#25
Only does 1080i, or 720p. Though I read on another site that even 1080i is for jpegs only, not video, but cannot confirm that.

On the plus, it has a better remote from the look of it, and allows some editing of filenames etc. without the need for a PC.

It too, has HDMI.

This is great with a USB hard drive for taking on holiday to entertain the kids. It supplies enough juice to power my external USB hard drive. It does tend to get very hot though. It will play through a scart socket with the appropriate adapter from the pound shop.

BE WARNED!!!
I bought one of these on the strength of previous purchase cyclone 2 enclosure which plays everything i throw at it and is superb....

BUT THIS THING IS RUBBISH, will only play iso's and 1 in say 10 xvid/avi files very poor compared to its big brother if you search google you will see its very fussy on what xvids its play no good to me junk...

BE WARNED!!!!

This isn't a good deal. I got mines from another website which you're not allowed to post deals too.
I'd recommend people to buy the other version.

So am I correct in saying I can plug this into my TV via the HDMI socket, stick a USB pen into it and watch movies from the USB pen?

Does it need a power adapter or is it powered via the HDMI?

Does it come with HDMI lead?

It comes with a power adapter.
It connects to the TV via RED/YELLOW/WHITE scart.

If your tv has HDMI connections use them with HDMI lead, the composite (yellow) and left /right audio (red and white) phonos are the "lowest " quality and cannot pass high definition signals or upscale video. Once connected with HDMI go into the settings and highlight the output your tv can take (up to 1080p).I have the older Cyclone mkv player and this micro is a quarter the size ,runs cooler, nicer graphic interface and also downmixes DTS soundtracks found on MKV files. Got this one for my Dad with 640 gb passport drive from Amazon for £55. Micro bought from Scan with free delivery courtesy of AV forums. Its a little belter and at least half the price of anything comparable.

Worth noting that the power supply is 5V, so you can actually power it via a USB port on your netbook (socket is same size as old style Nokia). Can be fussy about drives. Will only read one of my drives (Iomega) if I use a very short cable, and refuses to read my Samsung S1.
#37
Excuse my ignorance but can this play .wmv files? I don't see them listed on the spec and I've got the whole of the West Wing from Blinkbox on .wmv

No, it doesn't play them.
#39
Thanks for the reply, from what I've just been reading about the Blinkbox DRM there's not much chance of playing the files anywhere other than my laptop.
