This is an excellent player - have 2 of them and thoroughly recommend if you dont need MP4 or MKV playback.

Video codecs/profiles etc. are a nightmare.

"Video:
MPEG1/2/4 (MPG, VOB, AVI), DIVX (AVI), XVID (AVI), resolution up to 720 x 480 30fps / 720 x 576 25fps."

mp4 = MPEG 4 part 14 but whether that is included under 'MPEG 4' I don't know.

I have one of these and the battery the remote came with has no numbers on, its looks like a CR2023 but that doesn't work in it.

Can anyone who has one of these tell me the size of the battery it takes?

sumvision? no thanks. I would say cold but I once trying a sumvision PSU in a budget PC. Never again.

That's odd... i thought the Micro 1 did up to 1080i.... The Micro 2 did 1080p with MKV playback...

Sumvision are a good brand these days on most things, and for the price it's not bad. Agreed on the early days thou, their stuff was good but unreliable.

Decent price; but then it needs to be given no .mkv or .mp4 support.

I bought one for £14 odd at Christmas; but sold it on ebay as the blu-ray player I bought had better compatibility (for me)...

I have one of these and whilst I think it is great if you can't afford a better model there are drawbacks. As already said, it won't play MP4 or MKV but I have found most of the times it won't play xvid either and I am having to convert my files to MPEG2 and lose some of the quality in doing so.

Still a bargain at this price though.

I too had one it played most files. Those it didn't play I just recoded and the recodes worked. Sadly when we bought an HD TV I found the picture carried now sound via the HDMI cable. Sent it back and the next 2 replacements suffered the same issue. So be careful this might be an issue.

Apart from that great price for watching DIVx on tv (not via HDMI cable)

This item does seem to dislike many of the "downloaded" movies that i've tried... most of my movie collection are full DVD rips (.iso format) though, and it plays these very well.

This item is a couple of years old now and the menu looks very old-hat compared to newer media players.

For £15.79 though, I would defo buy if i didn't already own it... HOT!

EDIT: The blue LED on the front is also VERY bright... so much so that I always stick a bit of blutack over it.

Bought a bargain bucket mp3 player for girlfriend two years ago, and it is still working fine, so I don't think there is a general quality issue - at least not now.

Anyone know where to get the cheapest Micro 2 from? Parents in desperate need of one..
#22
I bought one from ebay and tested it the day it arrived, then it sat next to my TV for a month before I tried it again and noticed the remote had stopped working. Change batteries and still nothing. The unit cannot be used without the remote!! This is a common problem and the unit has had a lot of bad reviews. Luckily I returned mine for a full refund. Just a heads up.

BTW mine was the cyclone micro 2 unit.

Yes, it comes with composite leads (you may need a composite to scart adaptor). Well the version 2 has composite leads, not sure about the version 1.

yeah its got composite leads.
